What is wrong with people! Feel sorry for the people who get sucked into these scams

The scam is that the "buyer" agrees to pay by Paypal and actually deposits the money in your account.  You can see it there.  He then arranges for an agent to collect the car/boat/caravan and at the precise moment you are allowing the agent to collect the car/boat/caravan, the scammer lodges a non delivery dispute with Paypal, which follows its protocol and refunds his money immediately.  You have no money and no car/boat/caravan.

Sometimes he asks for you to pay the transport agent and add a few thousand to the Paypal invoice.

then you have no money and have paid the transport cost of someone stealing your car/boat/caravan.

Received a call from this number asking me send money via western union before he could pick my car up as advertised on Ebay!!! NOT HAPPENING CHAMP!!! don't trust this number or any of it email messaging "ITS A SCAM".....Bill Owen or Steven Parker what ever your name is...

Got the same sms and emails. Name was Bill Owen.
Noticed his broken engrish in the 3rd email then asked him to call me. Got email saying paypal payment was made but really wasnt. Then continual emails about asking me to transfer via western union. Ended up replying to him quite rudely.
Is there nowhere we can report the phone number?

ive got a car on gumtree just recieved text about car name givin is juan sanches and email as martintaylor@gmail.com just waitn on reply but got a bad feeling about it as number they texted from started+6

What is the reason for selling it? when last was it serviced as well.Am ok with the price and the condition,am buying it for my vacation,because i'll be coming soon from our rig.I'm a petroleum project engineer on a rig offshore..I am indeed ok with the purchase and i would have asked my courier agent to come and help me pay in cash,but due to the terms and condition of there services they don't help in paying on behalf of someone for security reasons.. I will be paying you through PayPal the safe and easy way to pay online.. Kindly get back to me with your PayPal details(name and email address) so i can proceed with the payment, but If you don't have a PayPal account you can easily set up one just log on to www.paypal.com and sign up as its very easy.. I will contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up also will sign the transfer papers and deliver it in my place.

Just got a message from Bill Owen from this phone no to email him on billowen@hotmail.com.au when I did after 7 emails finally it came out I had to send money to them. Add Bill Owen to the list...my car was also listed on Gumtree Thanks for this site

Same as prev post, total scam...why isn't the number shut down yet and some authorities onto this f###ing [***]

Same received a message from +61428465117 asking me to email details of my car to Tana Wilson tmans278@live.com. The email I got back confirmed it (engineer of a rig) and pay through paypal. Definitely a scam!

I got that one today too!

received sms as follows "Sent from: Your ad would like to know if your gumtree AD still available for Sale kindly reply back to my email at (sharonhair001@outlook.com)"
I - replied with details via sms.....no reply.
I - tried calling "the mobile phone you are calling is switched off or not in a mobile service area"
will not be replying via email...

Same story... listed a car on carsales.com.au. "Buying the car, pay via paypal, linked to ANZ...". What puzzles me is that carsales.com.au is not doing anything about it. They put their clients at risk for someone who is a fraudster. The number is known, the scam is known and people suffered damage and losses. Everyone has to register, even for prepay sim cards, every IP address gets recorded, tracked, etc. "too hard" for local authorities? Maybe ask Mr Obama, if they don't track the guy already, they might do so in due course. ;-) Not impressed with carsales.com.au.

Fully agree with you about carsales.com.au. Poor show that they do not block the number to get to private and personal contact details listed on carsales.com.au. Of course he could use another (clean) phone number to access those details. But in any case, every sim has to be registered in Australia. It would be simple and easy for the authorities and carsales.com.au to pin down the guy - if only they wanted to... Nowadays we know what Angela Merkel is talking about on her phone. But we do not know how is causing damage and loss to carsales.com.au customers?

Had a SMS from 61428465117 to email M_dintboomxo@yahoo.com with my ' willing price' for a caravan ad on Gumtree. Obviously a scam and I have had four of these and nothing legitimate. I think I will delete my ad from Gumtree and put a photo in the notice board at the local village !!!

Noticed there hasn't been a post since March 2013 so just want to warn you all, THEY'RE STILL OUT THERE WITH THE SAME STORIES!!!
I had one with a car we looked at buying ... vehicle is packed and ready for dispatch from military base in Darwin ... i was transferred to British Airforce etc etc.
Another for a vehicle we are selling ... work at New Zealand Oil and Gas on the Taranaki Basin, Kupe Project ... Pay with PayPal etc, etc.
These have been over the last few days, October and November 2013.
Why can't the media (newspaper in our case) give details of credit card used to place the ad, email etc to police or fraud authority and get these @?$&!#%. ?
