I received a text message this morning saying that he was interested in the Ad posted in Gumtree and wanted me to send him an email at frezie.john002@gmail.com if the car is available.

I did send him an email that the car is available and he replied back like this:

Hello thanks for reply, i am a marine engineer, i am at sea right now.
I am buying this for my son as a surprise gift. However,does it have
any history I should be aware of? and why are you selling if you don't
mind my asking and I will really appreciate if you can email more info
and if possible more photos.  I can  only pay through paypal at the
moment as i don't have access to my bank  account online(i dont have
internet banking with it), but i have it attached to my paypal
account, and this is why i insisted on using paypal to pay,all i will
need is your paypal email address to make the payment, and if you dont
have a paypal account yet, you can set one  it cant take you less than
3mins to do that, i will be expecting your paypal email so l can pay
and your phone number.  I have a pick up agent that will come for the
pick up after payment has been sorted,  l will be waiting for your
reply asap.


I did reply back to him with my PayPal email address and he says he will transfer the money plus an additional £300 for the pickup guys which he wanted me to transfer using western union:

I was just about to pay when i had this problem with the pick up, my pick up
agent says i will need to pay for the pick up before they can schedule a
pick up time, they charged me £250 for pick up and delivery, and
payments or pick up made through them is made to their corporate
international headquarters which is in the states and the
payments is made through western union money transfer, i will add the
£300 to the money i will send through paypal as soon as i have made
the payments, i will email you and let you know and please i will need
you to help me send the money to my pick up
agent HQ in the states through western union money transfer, this can
be done from any post office ,there is always western union money
transfer section in most post offices...,i would have done it myself
but we cant bring
some of our personal effects
along, i am a little incapacitated.....I will appreciate your help here.

At this moment I suspected this guy and immediately deleted my bank details linked to my paypal email address. Luckily I think there is no money lost as of now. Hopefully I am safe.
I replied back to him asking for his address details and that's it no response from him.

Is there anything else that I need to do to ensure I am not cheated?

Got one today 22/10/13- selling my car on Gumtree  received SMS from +6142 8465117 within 2hrs of posting the ad - email  purset@live.com.- The email message read the same as others mentioned above from  Daniel Duckford.

Instinct thought scam . Glad I checked this site, but question why he is still able to keep using the same mobile number ??

Exactly same thing happened to me today from same person

Same deal about wanting to buy my car for his son. Said his name was George Sidii.

So now this person has my email address, phone number and full name. I'm worried!! Any tips on what to do? I called paypal who said there was nothing to worry about (although I don't think they properly understood my query).

Had three messages from 61428465117 about our car advertised on Carsales.

morrisamatos2013@gmail.com txt messaged me responding to an add on carsales.com. His number did not show up on the text but his name automatically registered as "mukinduri" which is a place in KENYA. (it registered like scam numbers do with a presaved identity/contact). He asked about the condition of the car and if it was still for sale. After lots of discussion regarding the car he states he has always wanted one, his friend has one which he has always wanted to drive (why hasnt he yet then) and mentioned hes in the defence force and overseas in afghanastan at present. He would loved to have come and test drive the car but unfortunately he cant. Hes more then happy to pay the asking price even though it was mentioned we were happy to negotiate (no one pays the asking price) he didnt want any further pics, didnt ask specifics about the car and gave a lot of information but with little detail. He was happy to just take my work for it (no one does that usually) and said hed arrange for a courier to collect the car.... the catch was... he didnt have internet banking access ( if he has access to internet to email and internet for PayPal then you have access to internet banking in my opinion!). All he needed was my paypal address and full name and would happily cover the cost for courier and paypal fees. I mentioned my partner always worked for the government.... as a police officer!!! and told him based on all the above reasons i suspected this was a scam. I googled his email address and found another complaint on this site. From the beginning the conditions were the money would process in my bank account before he would even know where the car was.... i leirterated this to him in my friendly email and am still waiting on a responce! Lots of little tell tale signs so be carefull people. Great work on this site helped me back up my suspicions alot!

Hi guys same thing happened to me after putting my bike up on gumtree. received a text  From the above number and then wanted to contact through email Mitchell Morrison@hotmail.com.    He said he was from Alice Springs NT.  When I got on google maps I was not surprised to find a house on the address where his business was supposed to be.What a dick.  Thanks guys

Received a text from a Michael Leitch about buying my boat - sounds like a similar scam tried by others recently - works on an oil rig - needs to pay transport up front - you get the idea!

Never sell a car through PayPal; they promise to pay an inflated "overseas price" but will not pick up to talk due to being out of range at sea or some other B.S.
Got another reply from a couple "Craig and Megan Wright" who had "just left NZ" but wanted to take a car with them at the last minute because of some kind of export perk. Same scam requiring PayPal and not wanting to actually talk

Yup - this [***] now calls himself Sandra James, tried to scam me for paypal payment for my car through GUMTREE. Surely other people have alerted Gumtree to this scam - yet there is no mention of it in their "help" section... Email address he's using is meandmypet611@hotmail.com

Received an sms from liziacuzzi asking about milage etc ln car we are zselling thru carsales.com, asked us to reply to morrisamato2013@gmail.com, when i replied he said he was jn Afganistain and wanted to pay via paypal, we replied that we will only do business by bank cheque n augstralia.

Received 3 text messages in 1 day within the time of posting, under the name of Sandra and Brenda asking me to contact them on a number of emails. As I thought this was legit at the time I replied to the first email in regards to the price, within the hour I had received a reply asking my reason for sale and if there is any issues with the car, following to this I received a further email saying he was working offshore as a sailor and was unable to reply due to a lack of phone reception. The email I received was around 3 paragraphs long explaining the reason why he wanted the car which was for his sons graduation of At a Darwin University and that he wanted to ship the car over to Darwin. This triggered alarm bells and I thought I would try to search up some history in regards to the phone number and here it is with hundreds of different issues with very simular responses as myself have received.

I had the same phone number text me within 2 hours of the car being put up on Gumtree. Asking to email the following.

and then the next day withing 2 hours of the ad going up on carsales.com

Of course I was annoyed by this stage, and then a little pissed, so I decided to screw with him a little. Created a new email of my own and started back and forth. Same scam, please pay by Paypal and we work away, blah blah blah. They then try and get the $450-$750 out of you by asking you to pay a western union bill for the courier. I mean they could come up with a better story couldn't they? Someone who speaks better English to proof read their emails if they are trying to pretend to be in Australia posing as Aussie Rig workers.

Carsale.com have not replied to any complaints about this. I have had so many people tell me how this happens allll the time.
