Hi, I received an SMS within half hour of posting on Trading Post from 428465117 sent from David Kingston saying" Is your caravan still for sale? Kindly email it's condition with your asking price to davidkingston@outlook.com.au. PS Email only can't reply to sms.
Also 3 SMS from number 7904751071 which is a number from India. saying " Hello, can I know the best price of your caravan camper, get back to me here ( fredden80(at)Hotmail.com) email me only please.
It is hard enough without these scammers trying to rip us off
It certainly makes you more vigilant. What worries me is they prey also on the elderly who don't always realise what these scammers are up to.

Knowing nothing of the potential scam I began e-mailing with information on the car.

Due to the nature of my job and my location i will not be able to come for inspection am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i don't really think i need to come for a look, because i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it so i will call you when  am chanced from work but as of now we can be chatting online or sending emails.

He did not want to discuss any particulars of the vehicle
He didn't discuss wanting the vehicle to be inspected prior to sale
He agreed on the listed "negotiable" price without bargaining

I became suspicious and google searched his e-mail and wound up here.
Just sent him a message telling him to bugger off.

I have also received a text message from the 61 428 465 117 number.

I will like to know if your car is still available and to know the FIRM price, please get back to me ASAP on barryrichies345@gmail.com Regards, Barry.

Judging by the previous reports on this and other forums I am guessing this is another attempted scam.

Just posted an ad on gumtree for my car, got a message from the number asking me to email johnsdge22@gmail.com . Seemed a bit suss when I got the following reply - way too insistent & seems odd someone who is away all the time wouldn't have internet banking, etc:

Phishing/scam via Auto Trader. Everything he asks for is on the listing.
I recieved 2 more of the same messages from a "different caller" with the
same phone number and same text.

Hi everyone. I keep getting SMS from this number also but I have found a site called Venompen where you can send an email anonamously.  Because it doesn't show up your email address but not too sure about your isp no. If it is confidential it would be good to bombard him with a heap of emails. What do you think?

I advertised my car on Gumtree and just got a text from the same number (61428465117), asking to reply back to johanjohn1999@gmail.com. Glad i read these comments, looked like a scam!!

I also got a text/email from peterwatts50@hotmail.com asking about the availability and price of my vehicle on Gumtree, even though it was clearly listed on the ad.
Alarms went off in my head when he didn't even want to see the vehicle, and was happy to pay without negotiating!

cheers for the heads up bout he just text me the same msg regarding sale of my car

Ditto, same number and same name as above, Johanjohn1999@gmail.com ref. advert for my car via Gumtree.  Suspected scam so didn't respond...perhaps should email Mr Scammer with a link to this page...or better still write a fake ad for him for a very cheap car and let him get innundated with time wasting emails!!!

Just received sms from 6178070153 saying the same crap asking to send more pic's of the car to " julianajul90@gmail.com ".

Thanks God that i googled this email.

Scam Sms :  i received a message from that number yesterday for my vehicle on Gumtree.

I (naively) answered to the email address, i got this message :


"Thank you for the mail,i am okay with the condition Likewise your
asking price is quite reasonable and affordable considering others
I've seen lately, I'll have it for the listed price,please kindly send me your
BANK details or pay pal payment email and name to set up purchase,as i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here on our mine site but i have my ANZ bank account linked up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through PayPal to your nominated bank account
i will arrange for pick up and delivery by my freight agent after the cleared payment to your account."
