I likewise think these folks got my number when I applied for a job on-line.  I've received several calls from this number and another that ID's as a college I've never heard of.  What I HAVEN'T received is any contact from an actual EMPLOYER.  It's starting to smell strongly of scam to me.

huge bummer....these people are bugging me too because i applied for what looked like a legit job but i do admit the site was weird, figured they needed the ad revenue to keep the site running - why they kept asking about education.  the job looked nice too....so are all the job ads bogus or something?

I just received a call as well.  Didn't answer at first as I didn't recognize the number.  I looked it up on Google and came to this site.  When I called the number back I was put on hold for about a minute and then spoke to a representative who said he was from Employment Select, an "employment verification service" and that he was checking my info for an HR position I'd applied for through a site called Mandarin Employment.  An earlier poster also mentioned that he'd applied through the same site.  When I asked the rep what company the job was with he reminded me it was a confidential company.

The guy I spoke to told me that the review process could take five to 45 minutes.  I reluctantly said "OK, I have time for this now" and, after verifying my phone number and address, got right to asking about my education level.  I told him I have a BA and do not want to receive any information about education programs.  He then said, "OK, this concludes my review, I'll pass this info on to the hiring manager."  His whole "review" lasted less than a minute.  It sounded like he knew I was on to this being and education scam . . .

Received several calls on this number the last few days.  I too am on the do not call listing.  What a shame that we don't even  have the security to post resumes on line without having some negative situation arise.  I believe they also call on our personal and or professional referrals.  What a shame.  Thanks for heads up on this number.

    ..
They are definitely a job placement agency of some type.
They definitely found your number from online applications.
THEY DO SPEAK after you pick up the phone.
    BUT:
1 - there is about a 3 minute delay before someone talks
2 - the someone talking will be a machine and will say
"Hello. We are calling about a job application you recently placed completed online with a client of ours. this application you completed was one done within the last week week. Please hold for a verification specialist. Your call may be recorded for quality and assurance purposes. A verification specialist will be with you shortly to review your online application."

When you call them back, the voice message says they are named Employment Select.  http://employmentselect.com

I answered one of their spam e-mails.
They got my e-mail address from CareerBuilder.com
On the return call they named the same job position that was in the e-mail.
The 40mins+ call ended after about 10 mins when I answered
"No, i do not have a degree"
    and
"No, i do not intend to reenter college at this time"

They had my resume info already.
The job title was "Library Assistant"

I received a call from this number today...I also have been looking for a job..I find it very sad in a time when so many people are out of work, and actively seeking gainful employment, to have to put up with crap from people who are just trying to make money for themselves. I don't need this...I need a REAL job...

Well 646 is a New York City area code and I live in Los Angeles, have Los Angeles phone number so how in the world did they get it and why they be calling me about a job from NY???  Doesn't make sense. I didn't call back because if it's important enough for them, they can leave me a message.

when they called me today, they told me about a job i applied for in january of 2009 and said it was a screening process for that position.  They then started trying to verify my information.  They told me i had supplied them with and address i LEFT/moved out of in April of 2008.  There is no way i gave this address/info on a job application almost 8-9 months later.  when i began to question this, the guy told me the company i applied for was confidential.  I explained that I have been receiving some weird calls from telemarketers and that's why i was being so skeptical.  he responded by saying he understood and we could "just leave it at that".  kind of weird...its all sneaky marketing ploys to get your updated information and track down where you are so they can harass you and try to sell you crap.  the economy sucks right now so people are doing ANY and everything to make money.  thats my opinion.

I also received this call, I think they got my number from Careerbuilder. I also have been applying online. I was told this was a call verifying my experience and that if I was interested in furthering my education, I said no I am looking for a job right now. He still asked the questions and I asked who it was for and wouldn't tell me. If I get a legit call back from Human Resources I'll let you know.
