Received a missed call from this number this morning at 9:14am. Looked up the number online before calling back. Apparently, they identified themselves as Employment Select and called in response to my recent online job application and they were calling to verify some information as well as some pre-screening questions. The automated voice told me to hold for a representative; a minute later someone by the name Robert started speaking to me (said the process would take about 4-45 minutes). He verified information such as the position applied for, whether I have a computer with internet access, Name, Phone number, email address, highest level of education (bachelor's), desire for further education, whether I'm currently enrolled in a college. He had me repeat my answer about the college enrollment (like he was shocked when I said yes) and asked whether I was working on a master's degree. He then asked for the best times I could be reached and proceeded to tell me that future calls will be from the hiring company themselves.

It does make sense for them to be online education recruiters more than anything else. Didn't hurt for me to complete the phone call and verify my information, after all, from my answers, they should know I'm not a probably candidate.

Employment Select is part of Career Networks and I checked out the online application for one of the job postings on Hotjobs.yahoo.com. They ask you for basic information and go on to asking you whether you plan to further your education, emphasizing that employers prefer to hire people who have that desire to get you to choose "yes." They next try to introduce you to certain educational programs if you're interested. Total online education recruitment strategy.

I had applied for a job recently posted on Craigslist.  It brought me to some weird screen asking about continuing ed, but since I need a new job, I filled it out.  Got a call from here, no message.  Also got a call from a similar number, same deal-no message.  My guess is same co., same scam (only 1 digit different).

I just now got a call from this number (9:50 a.m., 3-18-09). I didn't answer because I didn't recognized the number. So I searched the number and came to this site. After reading all these comments, I remembered an email I got not too long ago which was a lot like the comments here. The email wanted me to verify such and such and talked some about furthering my education. I think it's a blemish on our society that these vultures will stalk people who are sincerely looking for honest work.

I received a call from them also. The first time it was blocked and the second time it responded after a long moment of silence that they have received an application regarding employment within the last week and they need to gather more information from the employer interested in hiring me. Said the employer was remaining confidential at this time until further information is collected. Now isn't that just a high note phone call? I thought I actually had a job, ha yea right.

Same thing just now a few minutes ago. The caller ID came up as
    number VOXBONE/ NYC2
    1-646-520-0696
I spoke with "Heidi" she said it was about the Help Desk position applied on 24th of feb
When I asked what company, she said it's confidential. Same thing, this might be a long call - 3 minutes was all we talked. She said any further contact will be from the company hiring manager.
But when I agreed to call the other number she gave me about school "321-249-1490" - area code 321 is flordia.

I'm not planning on calling the number, but want to see if she is going to call me back in an hour like she said.

Heidi, if you're reading this - i love you...

Update, sooo I never called the florda number back, but Hiedi just called me and it came up as the florda number... So, how is she going to call from NY one minute and Flordia the next.

I'm pretty sure "as someone already touched base on"
What they are doing is obviously a scam. The NY number is for getting you to call them back. Then once you say yes to the school, then they can call you back from the Florida number since you gave that "company" your number and permission.

So they are being told to call, but don't talk "just hang up" with the NY number.
Then once they get your permission for the school to call you back, they call you back from the Florida number

I had the same situation as the above people. When I googled Career Network, one of the first things that popped up was "scam". Whether it's online degree pitches or more serious, I'm not sure, but one comment was to be wary of the need for your cell phone number. I IMMEDIATELY called my cell phone provider and had an additional password created for the account so nothing can be done without my knowledge.

I feel like such a fool, just applying for a stupid job, and now ID theft is one more worry.

I applied for a position on craig'slist around a year ago. I was extremely qualified but it seemed too good to be true. A month or so later, the co. sent an email to all of my references asking them to rate me (I got top rates on all and they called to tell me so). Next, (around 4 months later), I recieved a call from these guys. They verified my information and the fact that I'm NOT interested in more college right now. The rep said that I'd receive a call directly from the confidential company to set up an interview (at this point I tried to find out who this mystery company was and at least what state it was in, but no, I had to wait for some confidential people to call and ask me more personal questions). That was around 7 months ago...no call yet. Then, last week, I received an email from a recruiter from this co. "C. Benn" about a similar job. It said he had read my resume and thought I was really qualified but I needed to reapply. So I did and it was the same steps online about college info. The next day I received another email from the guy that was basically the same email but with a different pay rate and it said I had to reapply AGAIN (for another job, of course)! I don't understand why I have to keep reapplying when they all already have my information. Now, this morning this number called me and didn't leave a message. I think they are allowed to harass you (as are their affiliates) so long as you put it on an application of some type and that is regardless of being on the do-not-call registry. In fact, I'm beginning to think that there is a time limit on the permission and that's why they had me do another application, to allow them more time to harass me. I'm pretty sure it's a scam and that scares me.

Just a response about the "Do Not Call List".  If you filled out an online application for a job and/or they use a third-party for verification unfortunately it doesn't violate the "Do Not Call" restriction.  If you continue to receive calls though after you've requested your number to be removed they MUST comply.

    scam
It's a scam, it's a scam, it's a scam. A lead generation scam where they sell your info to any company that wants to buy it. And mainly for online school. It is a lead generation scam. The jobs do not exist, period....

This phone call is extremely weird/strange. If it really was regarding a job position why wouldn't they leave a message. I was on hold for good 5 minutes. The automated voice machine system didn't even sound professional to me. I think its a scam. Just be careful guys.  There are weirdos out there in the world.

Same as everyone else.  They claim the company that is interested in you wants to stay confidential.  This is definitely connected to Career Network/Career Harmony and all of the other shell companies they go by.  Look them up on the web and it reveals that it is a total scam and phishing operation.  Everyone BEWARE.  They are preying on ones who are looking for jobs during these tough times.

Received a call from 646-520-0696 re: a job app I'd recently submitted online. I was advised that it could take up to 45 minutes to complete the call so I didn't follow through but they did accurately reference a recent online application that I submitted approx. 5 days ago. Don't know if I'll call back or not, but there it is. Hope it helps.

I got the call as well, but just didn't have time to spend 45 minutes on the phone with them.

To understand our target market, our professionals had to take a different approach to the standard demographic study completed by most businesses. Identifying our job-seeking market could prove to be as vague as identifying the general population in terms of age, gender, income level, occupation, education and family circumstances. Three Stars took a different approach by instead identifying our market as people unhappy in their current employment situation for many reasons, such as unemployment, income level, insufficient recognition, office politics, inadequate opportunities for career advancement, boredom, poor relations with management and co-workers, or an undesirable commute. These are the people that our advertisers wish to reach.
