Most of you need to know your rights when it comes to debt collection, whether you owe a debt or not.  You shouldn't have to be harassed because Jr. or Aunt Betty didn't pay their debt and left you as a contact person, without your permission.  Read about your rights and how to file a complaint against World Wide Recovery, since they do not follow the legal guidelines for debt collection.

I was harrassed by them for a total of two phone calls, then reminded them of my rights and thay I was reporting themas soon as I hung up...click...they have not called back..This was not my debt but a relative who forgot ask me if I could be listed as their contact person.  I should have to be harrassed over someone else's debt?  I pay my debts.

I got a call from this number today, and am currently filing a complaint both with the Federal Trade Commission and my state's attorney general, for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).  In several phone calls, the caller did not identify his or herself or the company they were calling from, asked me for personal information without disclosing that the communication was an attempt to collect a debt and any information gained would be used for that purpose, and were verbally abusive and derisive regarding my "lack of morals to want to pay my debts"

If you were a true "Sophisticated Consumer" you would know your information is out dated. You might want to do your own research on Bud Hibbs and see who the real criminal is. I don't understand what you guys are thinking. You open a credit card account, make charges on it, and when the bill comes you don't pay it. Than when collection agencies call you refuse to pay the money. Now who is the real criminal? There is no such thing as free money, and when you use that little plastic thing in your purse and or wallet, you need to pay that money. This is one of the oldest professions in this world, and until people actually start being responsible with their money, this business will keep going. So either be a responsible adult and pay what is due, or stop complaining when a legit agencies calls you to pay the bills you so rightly deserve. PERIOD.

These people are bullies.  They will not take no for an answer - NO I am not the person they are looking for and NO I don not know that person and NO NO NO I will not give them any personal information.  They try to sound official using phrases like 'a person in my position' and case number.  This is either a collection agency or a phising expedition..  They never identify themselves.

No dunb-dumb prostitution is the oldest profession but it is illegal,but if I owed a bill on that I'd pay.your not getting anything from us as I'm sure you can tell.so good luck and I hope you depend on that job.

I did major research on this and have reported them for their illegal practices.  I have a police report stating the debt they were trying to collect from me is a fraudlent account and they screamed and threatened me.  Called me at least 4 times in 1 day.

I agree they have to respect for the FDCPA.

I finally got (and the same guy I spoke to 3 or 4 times today who said his name was anything from Don Terry to Mr. Brison) a fax number and faxed them the police report.  Additionally from doing a basic search I found their address (2414 S Fairview St, Suite 210, Santa Ana, CA) and sent of a certified return receipt letter with a copy of the police report.

The male kept telling me he was an officer of the court and that he was going to take my house for a $500 debt.

I kept asking him to send me valid proof of the debt and he refused (bingo this was when the light went off that he thought I was some dumb bimbo).  I told him the act required that he do so.  He then said he was a laywer and didn't have to.  He said I threatened him.  Yeah I used some foul language (thank you USN for teaching me that) but he failed to provide what he needed.

Do not send them money or agree to send them money.  That will start your statutes of limitations again.

FYI this was prior to 2005 for me.!

Be aware of this scam!!. I got a call last Thursday in my answer machine, some guy calling and his name was Chris meyer. They LIE an they change their names, asking me for a debt that was reported $0 balance in my credit bureau and also saying that he vas gonna sue and that I was gonna pay back taxes on my credit card debt. I told to him to send me some proof of the debt and he send my some email not very detailing with the info. Then he calls me back saying if a was ready to pay the debt that if I don't pay he was gonna go to full extend of the law against me.
To Bad for them, they're still waiting for the payment... Scumbags!!!!...

i agree with Get Your Facts Straight, my debt was 10 yrs ago and cleared off my record. they have been calling 3 days threatned me and my family and i told im not paying anything i don,t see.. now he says hes taking to me court.... funny thing he changed the amount 6 times... he  was so loud and my kids had heard and upset them.. it was so bad it brought me in tears.. so if anyone has a lawyer that is going after them let me know i will join. i had recorded the whole conversation and forgot to hit save.. ill be ready today when they call.ive delt with collection agencies yea some are bad and i understand its their job.. but Worldwide Collections are monsters ... and probably are scammers ... i did give up a few info in the begining i was haveing a nice conversation as soon he told me what it was and i explained that i have no record then the guy just changed into a monster am im still shocked over the things he said to me.. i hope someone gets him..as in sueing him..

i asked the same thing he told me hes going to make sure i can never buy a house , ruin my credit and said he was gonna hunt my husband's job and get him fired.. and he said hes taking me to court and make me pay 2,800 over a 300 debt that was 10 yrs and not on my record..

if you look up your credit report you will see world wide under the aquiries.. thats how i found them an called them cause i was told only people you apply for credit and loans can view your report which i haven,t so i called them and regretfully i gave out presonal info.. to find out why they were looking at my report cause i thought someone was tryng to apply for credit or a loan... but they said no theyre collecting a debt that wasn,t on there then he got really nasty.. I hope i didn,t get screwed..

I am also receiving calls from this company asking for an unknown person. I live in Hallandalle Beach, Florida. They call at any time.

Received several calls(recorded messages) from 714/380-5875 saying that they cannot help unless I call them back. I suspect they are 'skip tracers' (a collection agency). Since I don't owe any money, I don't call.

Have gotten 3 calls from this outfit, yes I do owe money to the creditor they say I do, but they try to make threats on the phone.  Today I get a message saying this is regarding the adreess and property of my address and in a very condescending way ends the message with Good Luck

This is the new form of debit collection, in the state of Texas it is against the law to mislead any person by saying your some type of law offical or officeer of the court. Also the State of Texas is the one of the few states that will NOT let bill collectors bully you.

you can research the fair debit credit act for Tx or for your own state; it will show you what a bill collector can and can not do. I encourge everyone to look it up and read it not only can it help you but maybe a freind as well.

I am so very frustrated at this moment..These people keep calling MY telephone number saying they are looking for a Charlotte ...I do not know this person!!!!  Supposedly, this person lived at the address where I live now.....WWR did a skip trace and ended up with my telephone number!!  I didn't even get a phone here until November and I moved here two months prior to that....but before I moved in the house was vacant for a very long time!!!

I have asked them not to call me many times and they have relly done it this time, when the IDIOT on  the line called me this time and made me mad he then said to me  "maam you need to take your medicine like it says it on the bottle"  I could not believe what I was hearing!!!

This company is pathetic in their efforts to collect a debt....I worked for a finance company for 7 years and NEVER would I have dreamed of saying such a thing to someone!!

I have been paying these people $100 a month for 8 months now.  The man that called me at my work...more than once..was actually polite and seemed concerned.  I was leary however and now I am sure that this debt although legit is an old one.  Thanks for all your comments and ideas.  I am stopping payment on future deductions.  I am also calling the FTC and BBB.  What a fool I have been!  I was just trying to pay off some debt and clear my credit.  Do they ever apply it to the debt?

Just spoke with "Keith" and I had to ask if the business was Worldwide Recoveries when I called.  My debt is supposedly paid as of this month.  I asked for a debt resolution/Paid in Full Letter.  He said he would have accounting email it to me.  Odd because the last credit card I paid of legitimately, mailed the letter and I had to take it to my local court house to clear it from my credit report.  We will see and I will keep you posted.

I have received several calls from this company. They started calling from a "private" number recently. Here are your rights with these "collectors" as well as any legitimate collection agency:

1. If they call you on your work number, the FDCPA specifically states that if you tell them you are not allowed to receive personal calls at work, they must stop.

2. They have to notify you in writing per the FDCPA of who they are, who the original creditor is and what the amount is. You also have the right to request in writing that you require that they verify your debt. You must make this request within 30 days and they must stop all collection activities until they provide you with that information. Always send with a signature required so you have proof they received your letter. Unfortunately, these collectors do not have to prove they notiifed you in writing per the FDCA. These folks blamed me that I "must not read my mail". Legitimate companies will do this upfront or will send you another copy if you ask for it.

3. This company, if they are real, bought your debt for 7 to 10 cents on the dollar. If you owed your orginal creditor $5000, they most likely paid $500 or less for your account.

4. My guy a few days ago told me he was an "officer of the court" and the sheriff was on his way. I asked him when he expected them to arrive. RELAX, this is a civil matter, not a criminal one. They want your money and if you were in jail, how would they get it? I laughed at him.

5. If you want no contact, send a "Cease and Desist" letter. There are many version of this on the internet. Again, send with signature required. I have read that these folks will refuse it but you have to try.

6. You are under no obligation to provide them with any information. My guy wanted the last 4 digits of my SSN and the name and number of my attorney or I would waive my right to have legal representation in the future. Don't believe it. You always have the right to counsel unless you waive it in the courtroom.

7. I was told I was just "a piece of paper" on his desk and he didn't care if I paid or not". If that was the case, why would he continue to call? HE IS ON COMMISSION and only makes money if you send it.

8. Is it just me or will these folks never tell anyone who is the "original creditor"? They have to tell you if you ask. Additionally, when you answer and confirm who you are, they must inform you that they are a debt collector and trying to collect a debt. Has anyone gotten either piece of this information from WWR?

9. I was threatened with IRS action. If you do settle a debt with a legitimate collection firm, the money that was written off is sent to the IRS and you will receive a Form 1099. However, there is a tax form you can complete that if you legitimately have more debts than assets, the write-off will not be taxable income. Consult your tax advisor.

10. Last but not least, remember that companies like this prey on the weak and uninformed. Learn your rights and you will be in a much better position to determine the legitimacy of the company calling you. I unfortunately ran into financial problems the past few years and have had to deal with a number of collection firms. Most I have dealt with have been upfront and professional. Some, like WWR, try to intimidate, talk you down and take control of the situation so they can dictate terms to you. You have rights too so do your research and learn to stand up for yourself.
