they asked for the wrong person

I received calls from this number all within 1 minute, no message, no answer. I do not answer calls I don't know.

Absolutely not a scam. I received one phone call from them and looked the number up on this website, I read the posts that a lot of people had provided and decided to get to the bottom of it myself as I take care of my responsibilities. Called the number and they were looking for someone else,. Informed the lady that I not only wasn't the person they were attempting to find but that this has been my number for 10+ years.  
They quickly removed my number from their list and apolagized for the inconvenience.

Just received a call from 757-961-3544, traced it back to Virginia. I don't know anyone in Virginia. Thanks to this site, I know not to answer! Since the called didn't leave a voicemail.

Someone really needs to shut these people down.

It is a scam, How can u say it's not?? Did you not read all these complaints?? You obviously work for portfolio. Or you were suckered to pay a debt you didnt owe. Dummy.

live caller who tried to convince me to "alleviate my credit card debt" (which I don't have) and asked some very personal questions, so I hung up on them.

do you have on your Menu list a feature for "block", not just delete now- anyways just go to that, hit "block" and they can call but it goes straight to voicemail- hope that helps

If they're calling a cell phone, you may be able to get around them like this:  create a contact named "PEST" or something like that, and then save that phone number to the contact.  Then set the phone so that all calls from that contact go to voice mail.  You should just get an indicator when they have called, so you don't have to deal with them directly.  This is only one way of dealing with calls like this.

I just got a call from this numeber.  They didn't leave a message, so I Googled the number - SO glad I did!!!

They call my home phone for about 6 different people I do not know. They leave the answering machine messages. Now they have taken to calling me on my cell phone.
I also received a letter in the mail from them for a bill that was disputed over 12 years ago with the original company. Fraudulent behavior to say the least. I will never and have never answered my phone to a number I don't know. Screw them.. I don't owe a thing.

I just got this call this morning on my way to work. The guy was rude. He kept asking me to verify my birthdate. I told him I'm NOT verifying anything over the phone. I told him I had NO idea where he was calling from and that I never had an account that he was claiming I had. Each time he asked me to "just verify your birthdate". I told him again...I'm NOT giving out any info because I have no idea what this is in regards to. Once he realized I was not going to provide anything, he got nasty and said "Fine! I'll just call (so-in-so)...." and before he could finish I hung up on him. Never answering an unknown number again!

Google "indian fraudster debt collector".   This is a phone number used by International criminals to extort non-existing debts from Americans.

Bottom feeders!  Shirley called on my cell phone (this number is given to NO one but family!) about a family member who has NO outstanding debts less than 8 years old.  They long ago came off the credit report & are outside the statute of limitations.

But these scumbags specialize in trying to convince people to pay them on debts that are VERY old.  DON'T GIVE THEM A PENNY!  The debt will go back on your records if a payment is made & it starts to ruin your credit all over again....

Got another call today and yesterday...continue to use my tracfone units to place calls and texts.  Bought a new phone to remedy this problem.  But they continue to harass me in Texas.  They don't identify themselves, but is odd area code.  Coxcom is the company name...????

I've never met you, but if you ever see this, some random collections agency called me today.  When I called them back to find out who and what was calling me they verified my phone number an dasked "Is this Samantha Washington, Social Security Number xxx-xx-xxxx?"  Of course my answer was no.  But guy just gave me your social.  If you ever come accross this, I think your info has been hacked =(  Call Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC at 7579613544 and chew them out.  

If any of my friends or family see that number pop up.  Don't answer, they're likely not looking for you.
