They tried to get me to give them money for a hospital bill I do have so not all of it is fake

Saw the # on my phone from Virginia, USA.  I don't answer calls from people I don't know so I didn't pick it up figuring if it was important they would leave a message.  They didn't I looked up on here to see who was calling, and I have had run ins with Portfolio before they are a really nasty collection agency.  They try to collect on bills that are way out of the statue of limitations for any state and most bills are over the federal limitation of 7 years.  They don't like it when I refer them to my "attorney" (family friend) who "handles" all financial issues.  Funny he never hears from them!

The answer is not to ignore them but to give them a taste of their own method. Call them back not just once but as many times as you can. First set you phone to outgoing ID block then have at them allowing 50 seconds of silence and then redial. One person can tie a line and create confusion and if several people do it you force them to reconsider their approach. If you are being called more  once a day or more fight back. This is the only counter measure that works.

I got a call from them. My caller ID said Portfolio Recovery but the lady left a message saying the name of the company is Core Processing. The number she called from is 757-961-9977. They call all day every day. The lady's name was LaToya Hayes.
