I have been calling Verizon for a year on this one. They claim it is the phone logging into the network looking for updates just like if you were to access the internet.  I made them  go back for six months and count the calls , one minute at a time and refund me all the overage charges.  They put a block on my account to keep it from happening again but it still did. I called again and the rep. said I needed 4!! more blocks.  Ok I said, just make it go away!  It is still happening.  My fiancee has a MOTO Razrv3 and hers racks up about 100 of these calls a month. That's $45 bucks!!!!  I think it's a money making scheme.  Think about all the people who are oblivious to this.  I bet only 1% of us call and complain. The other 99% are making them big bucks so they just pay off the individuals that make a stink.

For the last few months my bill has been hundreds of dollars more than it should be. Its appearing on all 5 of the lines I pay for. All the way from 3 dollars worth of this 77700000001 or 50 dollars of it! I called verizon and went all the way up to the national headquarters. The first time I got an answer because of were we call to. (Which wasn't the case) The next time it showed up I called again and verizon said that it was because of mobile web use. I had that blocked and sure enough this month we have more of it than ever. I finally went in the store and I spoke with the manager and they said that it was billing me every time I call my voicemail. Im not sure if this is true because I dont call my voice mail 7 times in a row in the middle of the night. I am very angry about this and something needs to be done. This is a scam that is making hundreds of thousands of dollars that people are willing to pay.

I noticed it on one of my phone lines when I was looking at my detailed billing and want to know who it is. It shows up really early in the morning when I'm sleeping.

Just had this experience with DH's phone and am p*ssed. Might physically go to the store and have DH put up a stink. This is Clark Howard ripoff fodder - if he hasn't covered it already (and I think he might have.)

Where is everyone from? This just opped up to the people I have talked to here in Ohio. Seems like an issue that pops up, gets complaint calls, then they move it to another state and moke their money.

BTW, Verizon says the charges are for games that are downloaded. They say everytime the game is played, it's using minutes. Verizon says the message " charges MAY apply", comes up on the phone. They say there should be a password being used also.
It's still very vague and BS. Post what you are finding out plaese.
If Verizon does work with you on the charges, please post that too.

I don't know if anyone has posted this but. I went to my verizon store, and he actually called the number. It's a data number for verizon... i.e. everytime you're on the internet... also for anyone that says that aim takes away your minutes is simply not true... also with texts...

My husband had this problem on his phone a few months back- over $300 in extra charges with the same middle of the night repetitive calls to the 777 number.  I called verizon and got the charges removed and any data related services (ie mobile web, get it now apps, vcast, etc) blocked.  So, you would think that any 777 numbers couldn't possibly be charged?  Well, that's wrong.  It happened again this month- over $100 in extra charges. Also, he doesn't use backup assistant or any other linking/data service, just phone. I've put in another complaint to verizon and will see what happens.  Just wanted to let all of you know that if you get data services blocked (because you never use them) that this doesn't fix the problem.    What does fix the problem is not doing business with Verizon once your contract expires.

Called verizon and received pretty much the same as you all.  They claim it is a data call that is listed as voice and deducts from your voice usage.  My daughter had almost 12 hr. 702 minutes at 5am when she was sleeping and that same morning at 2 am 121 minutes.  Verizon did give me a credit but I am concerned that this is a scam.  Not sure who is benefiting. We'll see if it continues.  Verizon rep gave no indication that it was a problem and stated he hasn't heard any other complaints. He recommended a change to a Nationwide plan that will list this as data going forward.  Not sure how that is actually going to benefit me.  Just place the fraudulent charge in another category.

Concerning 777-000-0001. I just got of the phone to Verizon.  The customer service tech  Jeff, was CLUELESS!  I express to him I had some knowledge of phone system and no company other that a telephone company would have an exchange of “000”.   The illegal charges on my statement were just $15.00 but had it not been for Hurricane Ike I may not have carefully reviewed this months statement.  In fact, I plan to go over the statements from previous months.  While talking to Jeff I goggled the number and read the complaints going back to February 2008.  He said he would initiate an internal complaint.  However, I think we should all send a letter to our respected states Attorney General’s office.

This started happening to me in Mid-October and it seems every time my phone is on it keeps calling this number. I have a Motorola KRZR. Not sure if it is the phone or verizon.

I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless. This number is for data being sent along their network.

The following items show up as 7770000001:
    anything with GetIt Now
downloading games (some games will also charge minutes as you play them)
    downloading ringtones
    using instant messaging
tethering (using the phone as a modem)

If you have an old verizon account you might also be charged when you send picture messages. I signed up a couple of months ago to have unlimited text and picture messages to other Verizon Wireless customers. So when this number started to show up and using my minutes I started to freak out. My old calling plan charged minutes instead of data usage when sending pictures from my phone. Everytime I sent out a picture it was covered under the unlimited txt and pix feature, but my plan was charging me a minute or two for each picture sent.

Call Verizon and have your account changed from the old plan to Nationwide. That should fix it for most of you. If you keep seeing these charges it might be from your kids downloading stuff and using IM apps, but not wanting to get into trouble and they are lying to you. Nationwide does not charge minutes for sending pictures. Thus it is truly unlimited and free to send pictures to other verizon customers.

    totally ripped off!
I just called verizon - saw over 100 of these calls on my daughter's phone in the month of October, and Kaya told me that it was from our daughter listening to ringtones and such.  I know she has some of those ringtones, so I thanked her and apologized for bothering her ahd hung up........  only to tell my daughter that she MUST stop calling and listening to those ringtones at all hours of the night and she said she hasn't even looked into a ringtone in the past 3 or 4 weeks, and NEVER 8 and 10 times in a 2 hour period!  Now, after reading this site, I feel screwed and ripped off even more!  Kaya told me that if I upgraded to the nationwide plan, that I would get more monthly minutes, but BEWARE!!!!She told me that each time that we went to the mobile web or anything that uses megabytes (sending pics??) that there would be a charge of $1.99 EACH TIME!  That sounds like a screwed up scam, so beware of the above note that the nationwide is truly unlimited, Kaya from Verizon told me there is a $1.99 charge EACH TIME you download games, ringtones, go to get it now, etc......    Good Luck

So this 777-000-0001 i also found out the hard way.  I had over 200 minutes used to this number, so i thought about it and i basically solved what it is.  I paid the $5 a month for mobile web on my phone, what i didn't know is every time i get on it it charges me per minute i use it.  So I'm thinking everytime you use mobile web or probably get on Get It Now to get a new application thats the number they use.  They charge you for each minute you use online and getting applications, even after the $5 a month.  So this month's bill is a killer for me for going over, but i hope this helps

And i read some of you get these when you're asleep, only thing i can think of is you accidentally try to get online or Get It Now, or something like that by accident and then it's just sitting there all night on those screens.  If you aren't the ones doing it, then my bet is its probably your kid getting ringtones/games/internet etc.  It's not a scam in the way the are wrongfully saying you're calling this, but it is kind of a scam/low on their part that they don't really let people know that you will be charged for each time you use these things.  So really you don't only have to pay for a game/ringtone/internet but the time it takes you to get it.  My advice, if you're a parent make sure you let your kids know not to use it or it will charge you minutes.
