It's AT&T either to remind you about your service call OR to remind you that you have a bill to pay, which is annoying as all get out as I still get it whem I have a bill due yet already scheduled a payment. You'd think AT&T would be smart enough to know there is a payment scheduled, but I guess that's asking for alot

I get a call from this number no less that 3 times DAILY, and each time I reply that it is SPAM.  I have contacted ATT customer support but they really don't know what they are doing or they are just plain ignorant.  And the number they are calling is supposed to be an unlisted/private number.  Hate these guys with a passion.

Called my cell phone. I never pick up 1-800 numbers on my cell. Whether or not it's ATT, it has to be a telemarketer or a scam because I never give out that number. If they call again, I will report them to the FCC.

They called and when I didn't pick up, they left a message. Identified themselves as an automated call from AT&T regarding my U-Verse account. I don't have a U-Verse account. I don't even have a land line any longer so I haven't done business with them for years. If this is really a call from AT&T, it is an advertising ploy and since I am on the Do Not Call List, they are breaking the law.

Received call saying they were AT&T and a technician would be by last Friday to complete my UVerse order and to call them back if I would not be home.  I did not order UVerse nor is it even available in my area so I assumed this was a phishing call from thieves wanting to know if I would not home.  No one arrived on Friday as I was at home all day and no one called back.

Sometimes scam artists use a concept called "number spoofing" to make a call look like it's coming from a legit number, when really it's coming from the Philippines or some other random place. They are trying to sucker people into giving up payment information to them so they can steal their identities! Is that too much of a concept for you to grasp?

At 1:17 today I received a call from 1-800-288-2020. I couldn't answer right away so I called back. It sounded like a young boy/man answered. I asked his name. He said Dalton. I told him I just got a call from him. He said he did not know anything about it. Is this a problem?

Started receiving calls from 1-800-288-2020 on July 26, 2014 around 2pm eastern time every day.  I am normally at work during this time so I ignore the call.  The caller didn't leave a voice mail so I haven't called back since it was not important enough to leave a voice mail.  I have an app called "Current Caller ID" by White Pages which identified the number belong to Thomas Lozott.  I am not sure how accurate that information is but just sharing everything that I know to date.  However, based on the history of comments here left by other users my theory is that this number belongs to some hacker who either has connections with or has access to AT&T information and is calling current/historical AT&T customers in an attempt to steal information while pretending to be AT&T.  My advice to anyone else receiving calls from this listed number......don't answer

Update to my prior post.  I just received an email from AT&T Uverse promoting different specials and also customer service support.  The telephone number listed for customer service is 855-982-0244 available between 9am and midnight (eastern time)...This just provides more positive support that the other phone number is fake and a spam attempt to steal someone's identity.

My friend just received a call from 800-288-2820 asking for me representing themselves as ATT.  He told them they had the wrong number and called me.  I called this number and got a recording for Equine Wholesalers (horse supplies).  I do not own a horse or use horse supplies.  I called a different ATT number to report this and they said this was an ATT customer service number and that somebody was scamming / masking / using their number most likely for the purpose of a scam.  My concern is that they had my friends number and the only way for them to have it would have been if they have hacked the ATT system as he is listed on a favorite A list.  ATT was very helpful and took a report so they could investigate.  They confirmed my account was in good standing with no outstanding balance and said they would definitely find out who was doing this and hold them accountable. This shows to be a Birmingham AL. number when I searched on line.  If you receive a call from this number be sure to report it to ATT

800-288-2020 is a customer service number for ATT Uverse.  I have called it many times over the last 4+ years about my Uverse service.
Yes, someone else could be spoofing the number.
Yes, while only once, my call opened up on an open headset there and it sounded like a breakroom or something other than a workplace - chatter in the background, i got details on someone's manicure. - the call was never answered by a live voice.
Yes, ATT Customer Service seems to be answered by people in the Phillipines more often than not - and i find it most irritating.
Yes, a computer automatic dialer could be hitting your number(s).

I think this is actually NOT AT&T. I think it's a scam. Have gotten 4 different voicemails in 2 days from this number about a past due balance, but checked my acct online and nothing is past due. Called the number to speak to someone, and it sent me thru an automated directory, which asked me to say what my problem was. I said: "I think my number might be attached to someone else's acct that I don't know." The automated voice said: "it sounds like you're calling about [pause] fraud." Then it redirected me to what I hoped would be AT&T's fraud dept. The voice came back, and said: "I'm sorry. It looks like you have a past due amount on your bill. I cannot direct you to the fraud dept until this bill is paid." WAIT! WHAT???? This is the point where they hope I just go along, enter in my credit card info to pay said fictitious past due balance and then they have my credit card!!! Why would needing to call about acct fraud require you to pay for the fraudulent amount in order to clear up said fraud?? That's some kind of ballsy con! I'll say that! But DO NOT fall for it!
