- Epidemic| 1 replyI got a call from 505-797-6327 a New Mexico number telling me to call 800-388-2200. When I called back the 505 number a automated machine that sounded legit told me to enter my info. I could have been fooled. I kept pressing # until transfered to cust serv and they told me they were part of citi and rambled other things. I just hung up. When I called the 800 number it sounded legit but I could notice differences, so I hung up.

- Unknown| 1 replyMy case involves a credit card that was duplicated and swiped at various locations (including walmarts and gas stations) and overdrafted by a significant amount. I have been loyal to citicards since I started my credit history. I paid the full amount every statement. I just had a brawl over the phone for almost 2 hours with various departments of citi. Simply put, they were trying to make me pay for the fraudulent charges. My point being, why should I pay for something I didn't buy??
The fraud department has already been working with me since last week. They've been pretty good. Even today, they were professional regardless of my ever-growing skepticism.
Let's talk about the collecitons department.. Their phone number shows up as 505-797-6333 and they will leave a message telling you to call 800-388-2200.
I gave my 16 digit account #, social, password, phone number, and address in order to get by the security check. Their approach was so horrendous, I refused to comply after 5 minutes of conversation. I even heard people laughing and having a party in the background. The lady that was talking to me sounded like a 300 pound toad. She was only programmed to get my checking account number to pay for the huge amount over the limit which is obviously not my obligation. My (do not trust anyone) nature drove her to transfer the call over to the fraud department. That would have made me feel better since they already knew what was going on. However, the transfer went to another business that had no connection to CITI. okay then..??
I immediately called back 800-388-2200 thinking I was scammed. The same lady picked up. She's the last person I would ever want to talk to. If you heard her voice, you would slit your throat and kill yourself. She did the same thing again, pressuring me to make a payment to at least cover the minimum or the whole amount. She wanted my banking information. That's something I never give over the phone so I told her good luck. I heard more laughter and party noises in the background. How unprofessional. The toad told me that she's gonna get the supervisor to handle this matter. I said okay.
I waited 2 minutes and heard all kinds of background noises. I asked myself "which financial institution places me on hold while not actually placing me on hold?" Obviously, the lady did not put me on hold. So I got scared and hung my phone and googled 800-388-2200.
This is the first result I got:

This is a fake company calling to get your banking information as part of a scam. They will tell you that your bill is late and they need to take your payment information over the phone or you will be hit with late fees. They may have the last 4 digits of your credit card and your full name. Hang up and call the customer service number on the back of your issued card or statment and report it.
***
Now I got really scared. I called the number on the back of my card. After talking to 4 different people and 2 supervisors, I was transferred to the fraud department. They took care of everything. They told me it's not a scam but everything I described was in their history and it was the Recovery Department. Even now, I dont know if I should trust anything. Was the number I dialed from the back of my card somehow intercepted by a professional scamming group? Is 800-388-2200 a legitimate number? Is CITI a big scam? Can I ever trust anything over the phone?
Everything still remains a mystery. I will unlock everything by calling 800-388-2200 using different lines and hitting them with riddles like they've never gotten before. Not for vengeance, but to check on the validity. I don't trust that number.. I never will. They think they're too slick. The only slickness they got IS the lady who tried to get my banking information. Frankly, she's sounds like a huge toad. Toads are slippery. She must be a toad, inside and outside.
Conclusion: Once the fraudulent charges are resolved, I'm gonna switch credit card companies.
STAY AWAY FROM CITICARDS, CITIBANK, and CITIGROUP.

This number IS Citibank. Actually it's the collection department for several banks' credit card divisions, ATT, Citibank & Chase to name a few. They were calling me to tell me about a $9.17 finance charge that my account incurred after it was closed.
After Googling this number I got to this page on "Who Calls Me" dot com
I read the other statements of justifiably paranoid people, and since the phone etiquette of the ATT/Citibank/Chase collections department sounded less than professional I began to hang up on them every time.
Now I've got a "late 30" and a "late 60" on my credit report because I payed attention to the postings on this page instead of initiating a call to ATT/Citibank myself.
• For Questions about your Credit Card Account 1-800-423-4343
This number to dial ATT/Citibank direct is copied from their credit card account holder's login page.
Don't take my word for it - go there and retieve whatever contact number that makes you comfortable.
Whatever you do, don't sit there and do nothing. That's what I did and now I'm paying for it by way of a compromised TRW rating.- Caller: Citibank, ATT, Chase
- joeWent to Citi website, even verified that I had the correct website by logging into a long closed account, got a customer service number, and talked to a manager. This is a legit Citibank number. Not surprisingly, they found no accounts under my name, they couldn't even find the very number at which they were calling me. The manager said it had to be a mistake and would correct it.
- Caller: Citibank
- joe 2I called back the general Citi Customer Service number just to play it safe, and it turns out this was a legitimate issue with my account.
Do not ignore these calls. - SamThese are the valid Citibank numbers!

- BetteThese are ligit. I had an overdue amount of which I was unaware. It was only $8.00. I paid online and it is over. I never give out my credit card numbers over the phone unless I initiate the call. When I received this call I called the number on my Citi card and cleared the matter up.

- Margie| 4 repliesA recorded message (with a man's voice) called today, July 9, 2010, saying that I needed to call 1-800-4388-2200 regarding my CitiCard account. He ended the call by saying "This is not a sales call."
This comment, I am sure, was to make me think that there was something wrong with my account. Little did they know that I closed this account almost three years ago, so I knew that there was no reason for anyone from Citi Bank to be calling us. I did get my file out though, and I called the Customer Service number telling them what had happened and the lady verified that the account was closed and that no one from Citi Bank needed to speak with me. She also said that this obviously was a scam, that if there was a problem that someone from the bank would call me personally (and not leave a "call back mesage" or they would write a letter to me. By the way, the name on our caller ID showed: Citicards Sur"
She said to definitely report the call as scam and to NOT return the call to the 1-800-388-2200 number!!- Caller: ID showed "Citicards Sur"
- Margie2 replies to Margie| 3 repliesMy previous message today neglected to state the phone number from which the original call came. The original number was 816-420-1168, which it turns out, is in Kansas City, MO and is serviced by Southwestern Bell. ( I tried to get the owner's name, but unless I pay $18.95, I cannot retrieve that information.)
Anyway, the lady at Customer Service atCiti Bank told me that the number 1-800-388-2200 was not a
legitimate Citi Bank number. - kimchi replies to Margie2I got a message to call the 800 number because a service fee had been instated on the card. I had not used the card in 3 years. They cancelled my account and refunded the $60 service fee. I called back because of the messages about this number online, and the citi customer service verified that it was not a fraud and that the account had been closed.
- JGI was getting calls twice a day from (816) 420-4002 instructing me to call (800) 388-2200 regarding my City Card. I called the 800 number, did not push any buttons (including the press one for English) and was connected to a person. She asked for my card number and I told her I was a bit suspicious and would provide her with my phone number that they were calling twice a day. She was able to look up the information and asked for my name--I told her my first name and she said they were trying to reach and other people. She said it was common with cell phone numbers and they will stop calling me.
This seems to be a scam. Do not give out any more info than your phone number (which they obviously have) and name.- Caller: City Card

- Pookiedoo replies to Margie2| 1 replyI received MULTIPLE phone calls at all times of day daily for weeks from these yahoos. Finally after getting woken up at 8 am on my ONE DAY to sleep in I called it back. It is definitely an umbrella Citi call center. The problem is that when they looked up the 2 accounts I had they were both current. So they supposedly made a note in the computer and the calls were to stop. Two days later when I got one AGAIN, I called back and said they needed to figure out the problem or I would file a complaint with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). Well THAT got their attention and they dug further to find out that it may have been a problem with my Sears card (also under their umbrella). They transferred me to that department and despite not using the dumb thing in 2 years, I was past-due. WHY? Because of some dumb rewards program they'd talked me into a couple years prior. Here's the kicker, I actually have a significant number of points with this program (we purchased 3 or 4 appliances at Sears) which I would need to use before cancelling the rewards program. Of course I can't use the points until my account is current. So I made the payment. Now in 48 hours, I will redeem my points, get my late fees refunded and then cancel the dumb rewards program. So I guess in the end it won't be life-ruining. But the MOST FRUSTRATING PART was that it took 2 phone calls for them to figure out what I was doing wrong. Gotta love yah Citi.
- FrankolaIt has to be a scam.
1 I called them back. It didn't sound like the Citi's normal number.
2 They asked me for my name. I gave them my first name and asked what's my last name? Then they had no response. I asked "Hey what does it say my last name is from this number?" No response.
3. I asked them what is this regarding and he was like it's must be your wife's account then proceeded to asked me her name. I said dude I'm single.
I asked him his name and there was no response.
They haven't called me since.
Seriously the thing that gave it away was the initial greeting didn't sound like Citi's and also the guy didn't have an Indian accent (I'm actually not trying to be funny but noticed that most Citi calls come from people with Indian accents. The guy actually had a slight Chinese accent.
Who ever they are they have been calling from Kentucky. - FRAUD ALERT replies to PookiedooIt's a phishing fraud folks - I confirmed it with Citibank!!
Do not respond to this number or provide any information whatseover.
Report the number to Citibank immediately and to your state Attorney General.
Again, it's a phishing fraud folks - I confirmed it with Citibank!!! - Rob| 1 replyThe number IS a citibank number. I just got off the phone with the general service department and I was provided this number as the contact number for their credit card collections department. Got the number straight from Citibank.

- KCFor the last week or so, been getting calls from (859) 283-8071 - the caller id says "FLORENCE, KY". Leaves messages at all hours of the day until 9 p.m. that they were sorry that we missed the call but call back on (800) 388-2200 to speak to someone about an urgent matter. The caller, a woman, says she is calling from Citibank. I do not have a Citicard. I was home to answer the call last night at 8:45pm - no one on the line. I want these calls to stop. Because of these kinds of calls from different numbers for over 2 years, I finally changed my number last year (unlisted number), still I am getting these calls. Either these people call and leave messages for some strangers at my number or they do not say who they are calling for. This has to stop. SOMEONE PLEASE DO SOMETHING BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO TO STOP THESE CALLS. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THESE PHONE NUMBERS BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THEM.

- Ro TomasScam - SCam - SCAm - SCAM Someone explain why the federal government allows this theft operation to continue. Citi Corp is aware this is a criminal operation, but the legal system has little interest in protecting US Citizens. It's cheaper for Citi Corp to ignore the situation and pay back the few who get scammed then deal with legal costs of prosecuting these theives... Only in America...
