This is a number from citicards. Just search by "800 388 2200" in citicards . com and you'll see it belongs to the collection department. There was a fraudulent activity in my card and it went over the limit. I already talked with the fraud dept and they are taking care of this fraud. The call from this number was because the card crossed its limit. I was out of reach so they left a voice message saying "this is not a sales call". I first searched online, read the scary reviews on top, then searched in citicards website and found the number actually belongs to them. So then I called back. The guy was very nice and apologetic when I told him that the fraud dept is already taking care of this. he told me because the card was over the limit so I got that call. So there nothing much to be worried about.

I agree with SD above. I received a voicemail from (859) 283-8071. The female caller said it was with regards to my Citibank account and gave me the 800# to call. I was suspicious after reading the comments on this site, but I went to the Citi website and typed in "800 388 2200" in the search box and the results showed that # to be a collections # for the company. It turns out that my billing statement was lost in the mail and I was a few days past due. I didn't provide any personal information other than my telephone # and the representative was able to tell me exact account info that was correct. I was relieved. Everything was cleared up without having to give out much info at all.

If you are not sure of any #s calling you just make sure to call the # on the back of your card or on the official credit card or banking website. Just make sure you do call because you don't want to wait too long and find out you are too far past due and your credit can't be saved.

Finally got someone to talk to me at this number to see why they kept calling.  It is CitiBank Visa collection services and they had the wrong person.  Someone with a similar name.  So you might want to track it down so they don't affect your credit.

Oh, here's a nice drop-in visit from the customer "Friends and Family" relations!
Pretending to be someone just like you...

Wasn't it nice of this person to put all the COMPANY information at your fingertips?
And soooo helpful to share his/her personal woes of what happens if you listen to other people around here instead of the COMPANY?

What shysters they are. Wonder what would happen if the IP address that left that message were subpoenaed? Misrepresentation of identity might be covered somewhere in the Debt Collection Practices Act.

I have been called repeatedly by a number in the Phillipines, alleging to be Citibank.  They ask for a previous resident of this house who has been dead for over 15 years!   When I explain the situation, they say they will stop calling, but don't.  They just keep calling over and over and over.

This is a legitimate collection agency.  You may want to call the service number on the back of your card, speak to a representative and ask to be transfered to the collections department, then you can be sure of legitamacy and you can clear this up.

It is odd that this is Citibank as I have never had an account with them and I have had this phone number for over 7 years.

    Citibank lists the number here

        https://online.citibank.com/US/JRS/helpcenter ... tionsDepartment

However Citibank outsources Collections to collection agencies.  So you probably will not get a Citibank  employee.

I keep getting these calls...and tell them not to call again...but apparently I'm wasting my time...they keep calling. Today, I waited for someone "live" to pick up...they never did...so I'm reporting them to the FTC for harassment.

I have been receiving calls from this 800-388-2200 for weeks not at least 3 calls a day.  I finally called the number and told them to take me off their list as I have on Citi acct.  They said they would but the calls keep coming.  I notified the Do Not Call Registery as I am on it.  The next step is to go to the police dept and report them.

This is not a scam, so I cannot understand why some writers are so worked up, or at least those who wrote in 2012.  The "Ky Florence" caller ID is of course a flag that led me to ignore the calls and voicemails for at least 2 weeks.  However, I followed SD's advice above, and saw 800-388-2200 clearly listed as Citi's Collections Department number. I called, heard my current Citi account info, and spoke with a rep to verify some items.

Some woman who barely speaks English called me on SUNDAY morning at 8:30 a.m. Isn't that against the law to call so early? I couldn't even understand what she was saying, so I told her I am on the do not call list and to stop calling.

This is a total scam. They keep calling on a google voice number that I only use for the internet. It's not listed on anything personal, it doesn't have my name on it anywhere. I've never had a citi card (not even a gas card, which many are backed by citi), i've never had a citi bank account (personally, I hate citibank and would never use them for anything).

fortunately, google voice allows you to block numbers where they get a message saying 'number you called is not in service).. this particular number was going directly into google voice spam folder (so obviously google knows is a scam).. now that I've blocked the number completely, It won't even go in there.

more proof it's a scam.. since they're calling on a google voice number, and not my landline which is used for everything I do including banking.. and is unlisted with my name and address right in the phone book.. what more proof does anyone need?

Called me multiple times saying to call the mentioned 1800 number about my citi card. I don't have a citi card. When they asked me for my card number, i knew it was a scam. I said "I don't have a card number" the automated message said it would transfer me to the proper department, and then it ended the call. Sketchy for sure, and I'd really like to know how they got my phone number.

We've been getting calls from these people for the past two weeks at the same time every day (always the same automated message).  I called them today and told them to stop calling.  Then I called Citi Bank just in case they got any information off they could use (I only gave them my phone number, which they obviously already had).  Turns out it was a legitimate number, as stated above, though, it is a collection agency.

My advice to anyone that is unsure about this number is to not ignore the issue, but to obviously call CitiBank via the number on the back of your card.  And, if you don't have a card, call CitiBank through their customer service number on their website.  Chances are pretty good either someone who had your number before you hasn't paid their bill or someone got a hold of enough of your information to open up an account.

This number started calling me today and has called 7 times. They will not leave a message, so I will not answer the number. I have checked all of my accounts online and none of them have an issue. Thank goodness for blocking numbers.

Just got off the phone with Citi Cards...  the number is legit... they call you from this CID when there's suspected fraudulent activity on your card.  It's just stupid that they expect you to authenticate the account when THEY call YOU.  You should always call the number on the back of your card and NEVER give anyone your info.
