Its a debt collection call..CITIBANK owns hundreds literally of credit cards so it may not just be sears they are calling about. Legally we can cll 6 times a day per acct when you are in collections.
Just because YOU mau not have used your card someone else could have.

NOT A SCAM...Just because a agent doesn't talk to you doesn't mean its a scam Just because you are the wife doesn't mean you automatcially have the right to know your husbands business. MANY states have recently passed LAWS prohibiting a spouse to speak on their wife/husbands acct...so maybe you are in one of those states.   If you just give the phone to the person they asked for then there wouldn't be ANY issue...

It's so sad and pathetic that people like you want to use the excuse CITIBANK was bailed out by the TARP program and it was taxpayers money...CONSIDER this...if ALL you debtors paid your bills then there wouldn't have been an issue...also...maybe actually reading and comprehending what the TARP was and the criteria for it... and in addition CITIBANK was not the only bank that recieved tarp money BUT we was the FIRST bank to pay them bank...before any other bank did and when they sold our shares of stock they invested in they tripled there profit...SO...the only complaint here seems like you can't pay your debts so you want to place your embarassing problems on someone else or some other company,  I am a tax payer..and you dont see me crying about the bail out and who got what..oh wait..but I CAN  also pay my bills so I don't need t place blame on anyone..People like you are a joke and I find it soo funny when you throw in the bailout as a lame excuse as to why you are in debt. PLEASE..give a real reason such as...you shopped beyond your means and now can't afford what you bought...so you want to try and be a theif and not pay the companies back that loaned you the money since you didn't have it in your pocket to actually but the items with.

And I also got spam text around the same time saying that some card with last numbers [xxxx] has been deactivated, which of course was not a card I own. And when I called my bank they confirmed it is just another fraud so I was correct to not call back.

I got this number call every couple of days and ask call back this number.  I call back.  The person asked me I have 100 more balance need pay now.  When I asked when and where the balance happened.  She asked all private information.  I refused.  I called Sears Cards customer service.  It said my regular Sears card was closed and Sears MS has zero balance.

Sears Credit Card uses CitiBank to handle their credit services, as Sears is not a lender nor a bank. This phone call is from CitiBank of behalf of your Sears credit card, usually in response to late or delinquent payments.

THESE CALLS CAN BE BLOCKED !!!  "Call Forwarding Selective " from Lingo or a similar service from other VOIP providers.  (Confirm the provider has the capability I describe below before you switch your current service.)

With "Call Forwarding Selective" on Lingo you can reroute any types of calls that you deem to be harassing right back to the company so they end up harassing themselves.  With it you can route any quantity of phone numbers to any other numbers of your choosing.  (You can set up multiple rules as well such that you can also separately forward legitimate calls to your cell phone, for example.)

In a recent case for Absolute Collection Services I have already set up rules to forward "919-755-2*" and "919-755-3*" right back to 800-752-4172 (the callback number their robo-caller leaves), so the company will end up calling itself.  (In this case they're calling about a relative who is paying a medical bill in installments, so they shouldn't even be calling, and further they were informed not to call any more.)  Notice the asterisk wildcard on the incoming numbers.  In this case that means even if they have a block of 1000 phone numbers, anything that matches before the wildcard will be routed back to them.  You can block entire area codes if you wish by entering just the area code followed by an asterisk.  Of course you can also enter the full 10 digit number, and even longer numbers from foreign countries.  (And if you would prefer not to route calls back to them you could also use one of the special fake numbers set up, such as those for giving 'your' phone number out to strangers when you hate to say no but don't really want them to call you.)

This feature is wonderful.  Not only will you not be harassed, you'll get the satisfaction of knowing you're aggravating the hell out of them because they're not able to harass you, and instead they're causing their own phones to ring.  Every now and then you can go check your call log and see any calls that came in and were immediately forwarded.  And note that your phone never rings at all, and the originating caller ID information gets passed through to whatever forwarding number you set up.  Your number does not appear at the destination number.  They may figure it out eventually, but they won't be able to do anything about it.

No, I don't work for Lingo.  I'm just tired of abusive collection services, telemarketers, etc., many of whom don't care whether they're calling the correct number or not.  The abusive A%$hole who left several posts above is an excellent example. (The posts may have been deleted by the time you see this since I have reported a couple of them.)

I just started getting calls from this number to my cell phone today. I missed the two times they've called so far (no VMs). After the first call, I found this webpage and now I'm really confused and concerned. A) I don't have a Sears card and never have; B) I have never owned a Citibank credit card; C) my current credit card payments are up to date; D) I just had a credit check done for an apartment and it was in great shape.

So why am I getting called by some debt collector from Citibank? I would assume that if, God forbid, my identity had been stolen, it would have shown up in my very recent credit check, right?

Can someone point me to the page on the citibank site where this number occurs?

Citibank may have bought the Sears Mastercard receivables from Sears. Then Citibank goes fishing for anyone who may have done business with Sears. Even if you cancelled a Sears card. Citibank hopes you are to busy too busy to remember or think, and that you will send money to cover their losses.

Never pay a blackmailer -- even Citibank.
