    Thankful I Called
This is not a scam - call the number!  I read some posts here and on other sites and was suspicious, but when I looked at my bank account online, America First Credit Union, I saw an iTunes purchase that I didn't make.  So I called the number and there are five other fraudulent purchases on my card that haven't posted on the bank's website yet.  They have put a hold on my card number.

Reading some of the other posts, I can see why anyone would be suspicious calling - it seems that sometimes the purchases are valid, particularly with Paypal.  But in my case, I'm very glad I called.

This is a legit company. It does sound EXTREMELY suspicious, trust me. That's what I thought...scam callers. When they called, it wasn't a live person, and it was just a recording that stated both my name and my boyfriends and said that they were calling on behalf of America First. I immediately called the # on the back of my card and told them about the call. They told me that department did in fact try to call me and assured me that although it sounded like a scam, it wasn't. It was a big relief! They then transferred me to a department that could verify my most recent transactions. My only complaint?! When they were going over my pending charges on my credit card, they asked if I made a purchase for a couple grand at a local ring store! Yep...they just gave away my surprise proposal from my boyfriend. Now I know that it's coming, and it completely ruined it for me. Other than that, I guess this company was really doing their job...unfortunately.

This number is legit for all concern. Just recently I received a call from this number and ignored it. However not to long after my wife called and told me to check my bank account because she tried to cash a check at the grocery and was denied for lack of funds. I immediately logged online to check back account. There was this check card charge pending for a surefire llc. I goggled the name and found a website that offers gun accessories to police and military folks. Out of curiosity I Google this number and found the comments here with relations to PNC Bank; that happens to be my bank. So I dailed the number and behold my account had been froze due to someone had stole my bank card number and attempted not only to charge at SUREFIRE.COM but $300.00 at Outfitters and $1990.00 to some phony insurance company in the UK. Sounds like terrorist activity to me; guns and camping equipment. The last place I used my bank card was at a Sunoco Station in Fairfax, Virginia. I went directly to my bank and sure enough my account was froze due to this activity. All should Google "CREDIT CARD SKIMMERS" for more info. I am now waiting for a new bank card.

Not a scam.  Left a message from "PNC Transaction Review."  Only asked for the last 4 digits of my husband's debit card and to verify a couple of purchases.  We ran the card at a McDonalds and it was declined, but when swiped again, it went through.  That is why we got this call.

    Come on people
When verifying that they are talking to the correct person you should NEVER be asked for anything more than your name/address and telephone number and maybe dob. You should NEVER give any cc information (even "just" that last four numbers) or bank account numbers etc.

Come on people, be smart about it. Hang up on these people and use the VERIFIED numbers you should have for your bank or credit card.

This is a legit number. I called paypal, they verified the company First Data, and even connected me back to the company. First Data is a 3rd party company that investigates suspicious charges.  Here is a regular number for paypal if you want to check with them 888-221-1161.

Return the call. The computer will ask for the number where you received the call. Give their number. It then asks for the last 4 digits of your credit card. I put down 8574... from their number. That throws it out of the automated system and one of their people has to come on. I got Troy. Obviously a limpwrister. Tormented him as long as possible.

This seems to be a legit 3rd party Security firm, my caller ID just said TOLL FREE CALL and they kept me on hold for almost a minute (and I was about to hang up) but they asked a couple of questions and nothing really revealing that any call of this type would ask.  Their phone call procedure could use some work but it seems to be legit.

Call started with a recording, saying they were checking on credit card charges, than asked me to hold! I figured that was a scam for sure; if my bank was trying to verify charges, surely they wouldn't put me on hold! So then we came home and on the answering machine was another message from them. So I called the number and the only "personal" info I was asked to enter was the last four digits of the credit card. That's hardly top secret.
Ultimately it turned out there was a legitimate question about a recent charge. So my experience is that it's a perfectly legitimate call -- but given how paranoid we all are these days, I think the techniques they use are extremely likely to prompt suspicion.

Legit number. I called PayPal's customer service line and told them about the call.  Matt told me it was legit, and he put me through to PayPal's transaction review department.  They verified the call was legit and transferred me to the people who called me.  The lady asked me about three recent transactions, all which I made.  She only asked me to verify my phone number and name before reading off the transactions.  My debit card had been suspended until I called because I've never really used it before, and all of the sudden there are three transactions.  Card is fine now.  It's legitimate, but I would call your bank and go through them first.

    A GUEST
I ordered several things online from Nordstrom over a period of 2 days. This company called on behalf of my bank/Visa card to confirm that I placed the order and wasn't fraudulent activity. They did not ask for any personal information. Told me of the orders I placed and asked for my confirmatino I placed them.

    This is a legit number.

I normally make online purchases ($300+) but rarely make physical local purchases over $50.  I bought some stuff, totaled around $270.  Later that day, tried to use it again and was declined (Paypal business debit).  About 1 hour later they call, and I call back after checking on here.

When you call back, an automated systems welcomes you back, verifies the number and then they verify your name.  Then they ask for the last 4 digit of your card and then ask you to confirm/deny a certain amount of transactions.  Considering they had information on my name, number, company, card issuer and recent transactions, I'd say they're legit.

I got a call from them too.  There was fraud on my debit card.  Apparently, three transactions were made on my account from Britain and New Zealand, they were simply trying to contact me to verify the charges.  Answer the phone if they call!

this is a real security call and PayPal does use there services!
It may sound suspicious, but just don't give them any information and you will see.
They key you to the phone number you have registered with PayPal. so if you call back, they will ask you for that number.  They ask you for your name too.

Then they have all your transactions!  they will read them off to you and simply ask if you made those purchases.

I called this 800-830-8574 number back from skype, so they didn't have any caller ID to key in on (just being safe).
She did ask me for the card number, which I wouldn't give her.  We ran through all my phone numbers, until we got a hit (i have quite a few).

If you don't call back, they will block your card for charges, so eventually you will call in.
They detected a series of small random charges I had made and thought it might be fraud (skype, google, videos, etc.)

Just got the call today. All they asked was to verify my name, and last 4 digits of my card #. They then listed off the last 4-5 transactions from their info, to which I verified that I did make, and that was pretty much the end of the call.

This is the actual number for Paypal card services security - my Paypal debit card was locked due to out of town charges and this is the number I called, only to VERIFY the charges - they asked for the phone number where I got the message (which is the one I called from so they verified it without me giving it to them) - they asked for the last four digits of the card (which I didn't have on me so could not give them) - they already knew the last 5 charges to whom and amout, I verified them, and the call was over and my card was unblocked.  Anyone who feels they are being scammed probably just got caught up in a clerical error, or they confused their bank with their paypal, or something -- but this number IS legit.
