it starts with a recorded greeting which is probbaly why is hangs up .

- Our family is Warning YOU!| 9 repliesWe kept getting this call every morning at around 9:30 am (Eastern Time); finally we called back the phone number for the "important information about the account". They wouldn't give any info about the account, but wanted us to pay the bill with them. They asked a lot of questions, wanted to know the name on the account (they called us, shouldn't they know?!) and the last 4 digits of the SSN# of the account holder, but gave no info about the account or money supposedly owed. Later, we called AT&T directly from the number on our bill, they had NO RECORD of ever having called us for any reason. No money was even owed on the account!
BE CAREFUL - THIS IS A CRIMINAL SCAM!!!!!!! GIVE NO INFORMATION!!! - Business lineCalled the number back and had them remove our numebr from their database. The lady I spoke with was very nice and seemd to be honestly sincere in her wanting to help out, and submitted the neccessary information to get the calls stopped.

- Cingular customer| 2 repliesIt seems that this is an ATT/Cingular automated caller. It calls your phone when a payment is over due. The problem is half the time the pre-recorded message cuts out before you even have a chance to receive it, so the call goes blank. Someone needs to update their system! Unfortunately though guys, if you get a call from this number, you probably forgot to pay your bill...

- TboneActually not "unfortunately..." you do have a balance or did when the bactch was set up. It is nice that they call *before* they disconnect you to give you a chance to catch up rather than suspending you and billing you $36.00 per line to restore.

- SuspiciousI have received several calls from this number "in reference to my wireless service" over the last couple of months. However, I do not have wireless service with this "AT&T" named business. I finally called back during 'business hours', and the voice on the other end of the line sounded as if they were speaking through a 'computer'. I told them I did not have wireless service with them, and she said she would gladly remove my number from their system - but first she would need some information. She started by asking me my name so she could pronounce it right, and reluctantly I complied. Then she wanted me to give her the phone number I was calling from, but I asked her if it wasn't already up on her screen. She fumbled and asked if I meant the number on the caller ID...and then slowly repeated my home number. I did not trust the service rep, so I said I would call back later. Either this is a phone phishing scam, or AT&T is doing a poor job at training their service reps. I suspect phone phishing for personal information.

- ConcernedMy normal billing date is a few days before I get paid each month, so over the past 2.5 years have received the friendly reminder the pay my bill multiple times due to various reasons, including procrastination.
Every single time I've had a voicemail from those calls, or listened to the automated message, then used *729 to pay.
This last time was different.
I paid my bill before any reminders were sent out, and today I received a call from this number (800) 947-5096. I assumed they'd leave a voicemail, whoever they were, and didn't. Curious, I searched the number on Google and come up primarily with sites like this full of people concerned or upset about the validity of the call.
So far everyone whose re-called the number has eventually spoken to a female.
Overall, I am concerned, and believe off my experience and research that this is some form of shenanigans (I love that word!).
USN Service Member. - swimtoonsI called at&t and it is their collections dept. We have no past due bill and the CSR She said that since it is automated sometimes it gets the wrong number and took my number off the list. It's not a scam just a wrong number.

- jeanThis doesn't make sense to me. Why would they be calling me? I do not and never have used AT&T. If they're calling me trying to pay a bill then it's by illegal ways since I don't have an account with them. Hopefully it's just them calling the wrong number.
- jim| 1 replyI am of no doubt that it is ATT since I have recently been late with my bill and just started getting calls from this number. the only reason I even assumed it to be some form of scam is the fact that a legitimate company should at least state who they are when they call, all i get is a phone number to call on the message, maybe this stupid automated device starts talking before the beep on my voice mail but in my opinion, if they want me to respond, use a human that can tell when to start talking.
