NOPE you would be wrong about it being AT&T trying to market to you.... i would be because you have a bill that you need to pay... take a couple of steps when receiving a call from them 1. pay your bill 2. keep your bill current. and magically you will not receive calls ever again.! really its that simple.. even a caveman could do it

I got a call from this number today (800-947-5096).  It was a telemarketer trying to talk to me about his great networking company.  I told him I am not interested in the least.

Here is how I deal with these people. If there is no name on the caller ID I do not answer.If it is blocked or otherwise unfamiliar I do not answer it. they can leave a message if it is important.

I work at AT&T and I can tell you that this is a legit call. Most calls are concerning a past due balance and if your particular account is not past due, it is quite possible that someone (maybe unknowingly) added you as a contact for their account that IS past due. Other reasons for calls are sales offers or calling to advise of possible problems with the account (bill that is due following month has lots of overages and we call to give you a heads up to offer to rerate your plan to better fit your needs)

Someone keeps calling me using this number (1800-9475096). This needs to stop.

This is a scam...AT&T does not call you and ask for your social or password. They would tell you to call them if you were past due on your bill. It has been noted that through the cunning and professionalism of the people they are able to get your pass code and then charge a $700 to $1000 charge to your bill.

It looks terribly legitimate. I understand everyone's concerns. That's why I didn't answer the call, but I also have a slightly past due account so posts here that say it's for that reason may be right on target and it's really, really poor CSRs doing a really bad job.

I have been getting hang up calls from the too. I called them back and they said it was about my wireless account. They're calling my cell - my cell that has been with Verizon since 1998 and the ONLY wireless company I've been with. They wanted all kinds of personal info - I gave them a verbal cease and desist and reported them on the National Do Not Call list. They knew waaaaaay too much about my personal account information with Verizon (like when my contract ends) so I called Verizon and raised hell. Told them the only way these jerks could have got that info was to hack their databases. Nice. Can't trust anyone. So today I cancelled my home service with AT&T and am switching my cell carrier but NOT to AT&T.

Thanks, I saw that too. That made me feel less worries because at least it is a call from AT&T.

WARNING: Anyone who receives a call or messages from 1 800 497 5096 and ask for your SS#, don't give it to them. Don't bother to call, it's a scam. I don't have an account with AT&T, so I called up MY phone service provider. And after an hour with my service provider, it turns out that this is in fact a scam. First of all, when any phone service provider calls you, they'll always ask for your phone # that the account is with, NOT YOUR SS#. Then they will ask for the name the account is under. Secondly, do not trust your caller ID, scammers have an electronic device that will mask there true phone # and the device will transmit what ever phone # the scammer programs into it. Anyone who receives these messages and is not an AT&T customer call your phone provider, and let them know whats going on. Because this is a major security issue they will notify the appropriate government agency. If you are an AT&T customer, call AT&T using one of the other numbers listed on your bill, ask to speak to a supervisor, this way they'll know what's going. They can also put a block for that # so that you won't be getting any more calls from that #. Also contact both your local Police as well as the F.B.I. they also need to be aware of what's going on.

It is ATT calling you to let you know that you didn't pay your bill.
