Report a phone call from 800-955-7070 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Simon| 1 replyIts not a scam. Its capital one. I was nervous after giving them personal information, so I called the number listed on the back of my card, and it was indeed capital one calling. They were offering me a new plan.
- JaymeTwo calls now. I didn't answer, and no voice mail was left. If it is of true importance, they would have left a message with a phone number to call back...Even it it's automated, I have rec'd voicemail from automated messages...
- CarolThey've called me every day for the past two weeks - sometimes twice daily. I googled the number and came to this site and found the responses interesting. They called again today so I answered and the person stated they were from Capital One and needed to verify my zip code. I asked her why she was calling and she just kept saying she needed to verify my zip code. I told her I didn't know for sure she was who she said she was and that I wasn't giving her any info unless she told me why she was calling. She said zip codes are public info and that she already told me the city I lived in. Didn't like her attitude much, so I told her she's the one that called me and I thought it was funny that she wanted me to prove I'm who I say I am when I didn't even prompt this call. I told her either she tells me why she's calling or I'm hanging up, she then told me she's calling with opportunities with Capital One. I told her I'm not interested and to take my number off the list.
- Caller: Capital One Supposedly
- ShanHad missed call from this number, I called it back and woman answered saying it was Capital and insisted that I giver her social security number so she could look up my information. I told her I don't have an account and asked to be put on a "do not call" list. She said I should either change my phone number to guarantee I don't get calls or give her my social security number right now so she can look it up.
Sounded REALLY suspicious!!!!!!!!!- Caller: 800-955-7070
- mariathey said it was Capitol One credit card Co. re: a special offer. They asked for my zip code & then the password on my account. I provided the zip, but when I refused the password verification, I let them know it would be different if I was calling them, but since they called me, I couldn't verify that they were who they said. She quickly cut me off, saying if I wanted to know about the offer, I should call the number on the back of my card.
- JoeRPHISHING, PHISHING, PHISHING
I called Cap. One regarding the call I got from the #. At first all I got was the girl reading a prepared statement that my acc't was ok and to ignore the call. I then pressed and indicated that I had googled the # and found all sorts or reports of calls from the # At that point she was a little more open and claimed that someone was spoofing their # and they have an open investigation. They said never give anyone your Cap One info over the phone- Caller: Cap One Spoof!!
- anonymousReceived a call today, asking for my husband. He wasn't home, so I told the caller he wasnt available, but that I was his wife and asked if I could help him. He told me that he needed to speak to my husband, but that it was NOT urgent, so he'd just try later.
We pay the card off every single month, so I know there are no issues with that, and by him saying the call wasn't urgent, leads me to believe he was going to offer a product or service to my husband.
It is a legit number as others have said.- Caller: Capital One
- CrisJust got a call from 800-955-7070. She said she was from Capital One...rattled off 4 numbers and asked me to verify if they were the last four numbers on my card. I told her I would not verify anything because I don't know who she is. She said she would not bother me again and hung up on me.
- GirlI got a call from them too, seems totally random. I was the one who hanged up - but they never called back.
- txgirl| 1 replywow...if you go to www.capitalone.com and click "contact us" their main customer service number is 1-800-955-7070.

stop freaking out and go to a reliable source ( like say the company's website ) to check out your questions. don't just believe some random post from people.- Caller: Capital One
- MelissaI have gotten a call from this number two times on my cell, which is on the Do Not Call list. Calls came in the morning and no voicemail is left. I would really like it to stop. I cannot waste my cell minutes for a ridiculous reason as an automated call that doesn't say anything!
- BobI'm sure that this is part of some phishing scam.
I have now gotten two calls from 800-955-7070, and they did not leave a message either time.
As far as the "Capital One" connection goes, they already know you have a Capital One card, and are trying to get your personal information from you so that they can exploit you -- possibly steal your identity.
Last week, I got three calls from 727-712-0382. They asked for me by name! Google this number if your still unsure!
In any event, after Googling 727-712-0382, I spoke to a supervisor at Capital One who told me my account had not been compromised, and that I was wise not to have revealed any information to the "survey" caller. I wouldn't even confirm that I was who they wanted to talk to (which drives them insane).
In any event, as a result of my calling Capital One, I know for a FACT that I don't have any issues with my account! There is NO reason they would be calling me, and in such a manner.
Now, I get the calls from 800-955-7070, on the same day as last week, and read the comments here?
This is a scam. We are being targeted. Do not give anyone who calls you your personal information!
What they know about us seems to be our name, phone number and, sometimes, the last four digits of your credit card number. I'm quite convinced they are getting this from legitimate transactions you may have recently had. In my case, I strongly suspect the car dealership I recently had work done at. They always seem to target me for surveys afterwords. My guess is that they farm this out, and that the "reputable" and dishonest survey companies -- and their employees -- all wallow in the same cesspool!
Do not confirm your name! Do not confirm any information they present you with! And, obviously, do not give them your credit card number, Social Security number, date of birth, any family member's name, pin number, and especially the 3-digit security number found on the back of your credit card.
FYI, while "800-955-7070" is the "24-Hour Customer Service" number found ON your Capital One credit card, I am sure the scammers are spoofing this number. Companies do NOT call out on their incoming 800 numbers!
Dialing 800-955-7070 yourself -- NOT hitting redial! -- should, in fact, get you to Capital One. However, be on the safe side and call Capital One at 800-903-3637 -- which is the actual customer number that appears on your credit card statement. BTW, Capital One WILL ask for your full credit card number when you call them, just be sure YOU called them by dialing the number yourself (NOT hitting redial). - JoshuhaI received a call from this number a few minutes ago after receiving several attempts last week. Having looked up the number here last week I was prepared and it definitely is a phishing scam and they ARE spoofing that number.
She was asking for my personal information to "verify" account information. I asked for a number to call her back so I could verify and she gave me the 800-955-7070 number but said she doesn't work out of that office and they wouldn't "know" her. The named used was Jamie but I am sure it was a fake name.
Never divulge personal information unless you initiated the call and you know who you are calling, caller ID is not good enough! - BobFollowing-up on my post above...
I just spent time on the phone with Capital One (I called them), and I verified that NO ONE from Capital One attempted to call me today for any reason.
The calls are a SCAM, and the 800-955-7070 is being SPOOFED!
After speaking with the Fraud Dept., we verified all my account information and placed a "freeze" on the account (wherein no account information can be changed without them contacting me directly). I suggest everyone be careful even of a call of this nature, and call Capital One back on the known good numbers that you have dialed yourself should they call you.
BTW, the phone number for the Capital One Fraud Dept. is 800-427-9428.
DO NOT trust a caller-ID call displaying this number either as, (a) it is being spoofed as well, and (b) it would never appear on your caller-ID if Capital One was trying to reach you!
Always dial the number(s) yourself -- NOT hitting redial! and not using a number that a caller gives you -- should you need to contact Capital One. - AmyI've also been getting plagued by these calls and am not a Cap 1 customer anymore - haven't been in a year. I called Capitol One's fraud line a few minutes ago, and the guy I talked to didn't acknowledge knowing anything about a scam. He did say he could remove my number from their system, but he wasn't very helpful. I hope the calls stop.
- ChristineI was getting mulitple calls from this number until one day I answered. It was from Capital One and they were verifying that I received my new card because I had not activated it yet. It was just a replacement card because the first card had expired. They wanted to make sure that I had received it and that it wasn't in the wrong hands. I haven't gotten a phone call from them since.
- Caller: Capital One
- lvI had received a number of calls per day from here with no messages. Did a search for the number and suspected it was from Capital One Cust Service. I have one account in good standing with them. Rather than redial or answer, I called Capital One myself to inquire. They only asked for the card number and billing zip code. The calls had been solicitation calls from them (which I had opted previously not to receive). I requested to be taken off their promotion list and the operator said it would be done.
Be proactive and make the call to Capital One to verify what is going on, just in case it is a spam caller ID.- Caller: Capital One
- BobMy wife and I do have a couple of Capital One cards, but they are up to date, with no late payments at all. I don't answer the phone when the caller id does not identify the caller properly. If it is important, they would leave a message. But what is goofy, is that if it really is Capital One, why would they not have the caller id SAY THAT it is Capital One??? How stupid.
- Davie199Got this call today, I called it back, was Cap One, sales dept calling with an offer for a new CC. I said no thanks and they offered to remove my name. No need to get nasty with them, they are doing their job. If they ask for personal info, they are verifying the person on the phone.
@JC - Didn't you call them back? They need to verify YOUR idenity. How would you feel if I called them claiming to be you and they did not verify the caller and gave me all your info??? Stop over reacting.- Caller: Cap One
- .....I looked this up because I got a few calls from this number w/ no voicemails. After reading these posts I would be VERY suspicious of the responses saying it's just Capital One doing their job or verifying information. Those posts could have been made by the people who are spoofing the number. It probably is Cap. 1's number showing up on the call ID but it is probably spoofed and is not really Cap. 1. Either way, never give out account info or SS#'s to someone who solicits you. Maybe Cap.1 does use this number too, but in that case they should change their strategy since there are aware there is fraud associated with the number. Also, why would a Cap.1 employee ever bother to look up this number and post on this website? I for one only look up numbers on this website if I don't know who they are from. VERY suspicious.
BTW I have been called by Cap. 1 in the past to activate a card. They did not ask for an account number or social security number. I think it was DOB only. It probably makes it easier for the scammer since Cap. 1 does actually call customers. If I actually decide to answer a call from this number and they ask for personal info I will inform them that I'll be sending my call records to authorities and I will also be reporting it to Cap. 1
