- KenI find it hard to believe that there isn't a way we all can stop this, and other companies like them from constantly calling, and as some have stated, on Sundays too which is illegal. I'll join the class action if somebody here starts one up.

- Horace P Manure| 4 repliesThese guys are attempting to collect on a discharged debt.
And these goddamn money-grubbing Republicans continue to protect them from prosecution.
If you have a name of anyone who works at Portfolio Recovery - please post their information here.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Bobthey seem to have as many
numbers as there are area
codes - GeraldThey just called, the third time today and third different number. It was Portfolio Recovery. They were calling about a debt that was settled over 8 years ago. It was with Wells forgo and we settled the balance and the account was closed, so I know I don't owe them any money, they are just trying to scam me. If there is a suit I'll join. Low life scum sucking [***].

- Big DaddyIn the last 6 month.or so I've gotten calls from Portfolio Recovery for debts my ex-wife ran up about 20 yrs ago under this number as well as 10 other numbers. Each new # I google before I answer then block. They always call my cell but not my home. Never got anything in the mail. I think they're supposed to give you a written declaration of intent in the first 5 days of contact or something like that. DON'T answer them or give any info. The original debt was written off as uncollectible and that's just what they are - uncollectible.

- you gets no money from meJust called me, very rude. Told her to go f herself. Hope she has a great evening. They have called before, same debt over 12 YEARS OLD!
- UnbelievableJust got my second call from them in two days. I am glad I read these entries. I just signed up for SmartLimits through AT&T which has a number blocking feature, both numbers were just added.
- Caroline IJust got a call from them as well and this is not the first time. They call and call and when I pick up they are rude and I just hang up on them
Thank you for all the info about them. Yes I noticed they went from a California number now to an 847 area number. Crooked people - meif the debt is older than 7 years you they have no legal action as long as the last payment made on it is older than 7 years. if that is the case you can get them to stop by putting it in writing that they are no longer allowed to contact you via phone. that means they can only do by mailings. but you have to do writing. what i would do then is then send out the letter by a way of tracking it or registered mail then if they continue to contact you after they have recevied it you can then contact the attorny general with this proof and then they can then be fined or forced out of business.

- Annoyed in ChicagoDon't pay these fools a dime if the SOL, Statute of Limitations, has expired. They buy old and VERY old debt for less then 1% of the original value and try to collect the entire amount. There are hundred of lawsuits being filed by consumers across the nation. Look up Portfolio Recovery Associates, PRA. The ironic thing is that they are opening offices, hiring desperate American workers, and taking advantage of weak consumers. Know your rights. If you do pay them a dime, it can start a new SOL and they can now sue you. Once the SOL expires, you don't have to pay a dime. Most likely the original consumer wrote off the debt. New laws passed by YES, your Congress, requires companies to issue a 1099C on all debt you don't pay and a company writes off over $600. This is how PRA tries to scare you. But if they do this they have to prove the debt and most likely they can't. One attorney states that they are only allowed to issue a 1099C on the debt they bought. But PRA has been issuing 1099C on the original amount, even though they paid less then 1% of that amount. YES, that is illegal and in time they will get caught. Just be smart and don't do anything unless you know your rights. The new thing is that they are opening new offices and using different names to harass you. I sent them a validation letter request about 6 months ago and now another company from IL is trying to collect a 15 year old debt. Yes, the company is owned by PRA. This isn't funny anymore. I sent a letter to Lisa Madigan, AG of IL. Hopefully, this will get their attention.

- PAnother collection agency...sometimes they leave a msg, sometimes they don't...I'm ignoring them for now...they call several times a day, just about every day...
- AllenJust ignore the calls, and google any new numbers before answering them. The calls seem to slow down if I don't answer. These people are scum suckers.
- mdThanks for the previous comments. This company, Portfolio Recovery, has been calling our number from so many different numbers as well as sending mail. Like previous comments have stated, they are trying to collect on a bill that is over 15 years old and doesn't show on the credit report anymore. They call from various "800" and "866" numbers and also from regular area codes. I never pick up the phone unless it's a number I recognize.
- dfcalls constantly all day long

- crazygot this call last night on cell phone asked for my birthdate or last 4 numbers on SS, I asked what this was for first,I would not give any information out. they put me on hold then came back and said for 368.00 on a southwestern bell phone bill, I told them I didn't even have southwestern bell. They then just hung up.....
- MimiHere we go again.......This is a Debt Collection Firm.......but, they buy old debts(most were either charged-off or false).......they cycle the debts.....you can go many months with no calls then all of a sudden several times a day. It is a new collector who wants to make a commission and gets the "uncollectable file." I asked them several times to send me something in writing......never received. That was my first clue that they are just scammers. There have been several reports to the Attorney General in their state. Also, if they call and call and never leave a message or use several different phone numbers........THIS IS HARASSEMENT!!!!! You can even file a complaint with the ACLU!!!!! The more reports the sooner they will lose their license to collect. Also, there several calls a day on a cell phone is another law suit...........you can charge them for the minutes!!!!! THEY JUST DON'T GET IT AND ARE ONLY TRYING TO MAKE A FAST BUCK BECAUSE THEY THINK WE ARE STUPID.
- MIMITO GERALD: Yes, we can file a class action lawsuit..but, it has to start in one state. Someone needs to start it and ask the rest of us to call their attorney with our address so we can join. There are many attornies that will love to do this for free. They make their money from the lawsuit & Portofolio. Also, the ACLU will take the case for free.........check out our US Constitution and your rights.
- MIMIKen: check out the "collection laws" for the state they are in. If in fact, Sunday is a no-no, you have them and can report so they will lose their license.
