- JuliePretty much every time my phone rings I google the number and SURPRISE! It ALWAYS comes back as this fricken Portfolio Recovery place... good Lord, how many numbers do they have? And how do they have them from so many different area codes? I think it says a lot that they NEVER leave messages. On the rare occassions they use a number I recognize I take great joy in answering the phone and immediately clicking "OFF"... for just that brief second in time they think they have a "live" one on the line...
- fed up with scumI just spoke to the Federal Trade Commission. Please everyone on here with complaints about PRA call the FTC and file a complaint against them. What they are doing is illegal. Also call your Attorney General's office in your state to see if they have any complaints against PRA. NJ has 5 against them. You need to use the Norfolk, VA address to find out. They have so many addresses and that's the only one that showed up for complaints. FTC's phone number is 877-382-4357. I just file my complaint.
You also have to send a certified letter to tell them to cease all contact with you. If they continue then the FTC will take further action against the company. But you need to file the complaint with FTC first.
I hope this helps- Caller: PRA
- DaveFolks, just do what I do. The only phone number I have is my cell phone, so when these call me, I don't answer if I don't recognize the number. Then, after running the number through Google, I add them to my Contact List and set the ringtone to silent. It's like they never even called.
- indfwThey called me for the first time yesterday, previous calls had shown up Portfolio Recovery. I never answer, they never leave a message. It's called spoofing. It's legal in most states. I did that to catch a cheating boyfriend that would not answer his phone. I spoofed him with his sister's number that shows up on his caller id. You can disguise your voice either male or female. The voice is distorted so that they will think they have a bad connection but still think they are talking to who shows up on their caller id. My cheating boyfriend spilled his guts (to his sister - or so he thought) and I busted him! He was quite surprised!
- LaLaLaLucygot this call this morning, no message left. thanks so much for the info!!! i love "who calls me.com"
- ??They have a new scam running...a Prize Notification Listing....from the National Magazine Exchange....with a 800 number....and a ID# to give them....gives whole new meaning to fraud and misrepresentation....
- NikJust got a call from this place saying I had an over due balance on a US Cellular bill. We live in a place --Us Cellular isn't even located here. We have only had Verizon and are current on all our bills. I did have fun yelling at the moron though. I am turning them into the FTC.

- one more aggravationPeople have been calling me now for several months from that number and several others. I don't even answer the phone any longer if I don't recognize the number and I've gotten to recognize several of their numbers. They never have an ID and they call multiple times a day.
I've also gotten some mail from them but I moved with no forwarding address. Recently, however, I've gotten many snail mails telling me I've won $X.XX million and have to do assortd things to finance the process of getting the money for me. At this time I get 3-4 of them a day from assorted addresses.
Possibly the fact of the economy being in the tank leads to the proliferation of scams which at one time would have been prosected. Now, I guess, it fits in with the growing incidence of identity theft.- Caller: portfolio recovery some of the time
- UghGot a call at 7:49p.m and another at 8:12a.m. refused both. Thing that get's me is that it's an (847) area code which is local for me.
- frustrated!!!!this is a debt for a repoed car on the ex-wife over 10 yrs ago, what makes this so bad, is we haven't heard anyhting on this car for 9 yrs. we thought the car was sold and paid off.
have slowly been getting my credit back up after I got screwed by the ex( but thats another story), then a few months ago they start calling and have not stopped. Does anyone know what the statute of limitations is for this kind of deal?- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- EscorpionSame story here, I got a letter in the (snal) mail telling me of a $600.++ from 2000 from a Visa Capital one card. It doesn't show on my credit report any more. My questios is: If you indeed owe the money, can they still collect it? what's the "legal" official word. We all can speculate and be mad at them for their ways... But, Do I HAVE to the debt? It is my debt. or is there an actual limit time? What does Florida "law" says?
- CogentYep - Portfolio Recovery. They just called me
Got something in the mail from them earlier this week and they've called from at least 2 different states. Maybe more, but I mostly leave my phone off and of course, they don't leave messages. I always plug these random numbers into Google to see if they've called other people. I plugged an entirely different number in yesterday and yup! It was them. Kansas last time, Illinois today... - MUSTANGRIDGECOWBOYThese [***] #0les hire the worst scumbags to do their bidding!
I have a $281 VISA debt from 1989!
That debt is old enough to buy beer!!!
Dip$#!ts - Don't pay themThey can only call and harrass you and hope they can find somebody that will actually pay a 20 year old bill. They can't legally take any kind of action on these debts. I just pick the receiver up and hang it right back up. Nothing you can do to stop them from calling. Sometimes the caller ID just has the initials PRA instead of the name. They have a bunch of different numbers with a bunch of different area codes.

- JanePortfolio Recovery has been calling me 2x per day for the past 3 months. There were calls coming in from Virginia, from California and now from Illinois. Each time I block the call from one number they would call from another. These dirtbags are scammers and should be made to pay. I would love to be a part of any Class Action Lawsuit.

Get a Google Voice number and stop using your current number. Chances are they will never find your Google Voice number because it is not an account in your name. But it they do you can send the call direct to spam and your phones won't ring.
If they continue to call your existing phone number of course the phone will still ring. My Uniden phones can set the ringer to off for numbers I put in the contacts so I just add every number they call on to the list and set the ringer to off, the phone never rings when they call.
Google Voice is the greatest thing there is anyways. One number for all your phones. - ohiopl8These imbeciles have been calling my cell since May 2009. At first, they were leaving messages for someone I never heard of. Then I changed my voicemail greeting to tell them they have a wrong number. They no longer leave messages, but they still call at least once a week. On another site, someone suggested making a complaint at ftc.gov & I did. It's very easy. Apparently the ftc doesn't investigate individual complaints, but they will take action if they get enough complaints.

- jtCall from 847 678 9710 and lists the city as Schiller Park, Illinois. I guess it's another number that Port Folio has set up. I never answered the phone when they called from their other numbers in Virginia. And, they have at least 40 800 numbers they call from. I never answer unless I know who it is. And, I always look up a number here on Google to see who is calling. The above comments suggested that this is Port Folio Revovery. I had a vehicle repossessed a few years ago, and they are still trying to collect on it. I am on disability, so good luck with that.
