- EllenHi everyone! I'm spending more time "outing" unknown scammers here. This time a number from
Schiller Park IL claiming to be Portfolio Recovery. I have no voicemail, so they can't leave me a
message. But I can't block their number since my cell phone is basic. Soooo, since I registered on the
Do Not Call list, I went to the ftc.gov website and reported these numbers under DO NOT CALL
and 'file a complaint'. Considering these calls just started recently, I'm sure it will take some time for
the FTC to collect complaints from those who are already on the DNC list. I recommend if you have not
registered your phone numbers yet to do so! Then wait 31 days. After that, if you get anymore calls from PR--go to ftc.gov and file your own complaints! I filed for every time they called me from various numbers. Yes, EVERY call. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!- Caller: Portfolio Recovery

- Black E Balck replies to DebraHey everybody!
I have been dealing with these type of guys for years, there are statutes of limitation that, for each of us has run it's course, which means there's nothing legally they can do except harrass us.You can find it for your state on Google...look for "Credit Limitation"
I sometimes answer the phone pretending to be drunk or crazy in a low or funny voice and just mess with them...it's great entertainment...are you my SON?...what's yer name again....who is this? Who? I don't know any Pedro..finally they give up and hang up on me. There's nothing that can stop them from calling no class action suit or anything, they can probably find us even if we change phone numbers, but NEVER agree to pay them, they record conversations. Welcome to the 21st century!!!! - James replies to JeffI just never answer any 800, 866 or 888 numbers. I too have an old capital one account from the late 90's. The credit card was only worth $1,000 but they are trying to collect upwards of near $4,000 today. They are crazy if they think they are getting a penny from me. This is no longer on my credit report and was charged off by Capital One years ago.
- JohnThis is a debt collection company called Portfolia Recovery. They tried to collect an old debt from 11 years ago. I relayed to them that each state has a statute of limitations. In Arizona it's 3 years. The caller was unaware of this. Obviously they don't train there employees or protect themselves from being sued. If they had they would get no one to work for them. Eventually they will stop calling and fall off of the face of the earth. They also have many other numbers including 800 numbers. At this point I put the number on block. At this point the government doesn't acknowledge to debt, Neither do current creditors. Capital One Bank and Sprint are equally bad at harrassment. Everyone goes through bad times due to health and other reasons. These companies SHOULD be illegal.

- gmoneyLook up your state laws on debt collection and example is here in Oregon the limit is 6 years on some debts. No state goes beyond 7-8 years from what I have seen...I installed a callblocking program and so far this company has called me with 10 different numbers. Screw em lol

- beenthatcaller replies to fed up with scum bagsYou can check with, your state's regulations on the statute of limitations. In California, for example, they can only pursue you for 4 yrs on a non-judgment debt. But, will stay on your credit report for at least 7 yrs. If it is a judgment, it is good for 10 years and can be renewed for another 10. And judgments accrue interest of 10% anually. If it is renewed, the amount of the original judgment, plus interest (which doubles the original amount) becomes the new judgment and amount due. I know this because I use to be a collector for a law firm and I brought in a minimum of $45K to our company every MONTH. If you truly owe the debt and want to clean up your credit, you can try a couple of things. Sometimes, if you pay the entire amount in full, you can get them to remove it from your credit report once paid. Make sure to get this in writing, for backup. Also, if can offer to settle for less than the total amount due. It won't come off your credit, but show you paid. If you play nice, know matter what kind of jerks they are, you can usually get your credit cleaned up. If they are rude, make sure you have their name and call back and ask to speak to a supervisor. But keep your cool.

- SusanJust received a call from "Damian" at Portfolio Recovery Services asking for me but the Susan he asked for is not me. He blurted out a SS# which is not mine. I have an incredible memory for numbers and when I told him that I had memorized this person's SS# just as he spoke it he said he had me on a recording saying that I now knew it! Don't they have to tell you in advance that the call is being recorded?
