Same issue with 12 year old daughter targeted by Jamster.  I spoke to them on the number detailed above.  They were very helpful and informed me that my "subscription" had been cancelled and that my money (£27.00) would be refunded by cheque in 5-20 working days.  I will wait and see what happens!

I gave my 11 year old my old phone last Xmas - I only put credit on occasionally and tell her only to reply to msgs off people she knows- however she got a msg off 88888 for a free appliation for ringtones and replied with word TAPP - she obviously thought they were giving something to her - I only discovered this by chance told her off, thought nothing off it, and then looked up 88888 numbers on internet - again by chance to my horror I discovered this site and thought I should also phone 0870 number Nick mentioned.  Again to my horror the charges on the account were 13.50 and this was only from Saturday 2 April - two days ago.  I told the company exactly what I thought of them but apparently from other research on the internet I have done they are trying to target children!  Shame on them.

I am constantly receiving a text message on my payasyougo T-Mobile cell phone 07960 893612 as follows: “Sorry, a service you ordered from 88888 could not be delivered as you do not have sufficient credit.  Please top-up to receive the service.”  I do not know what this service is, nor have I ever ordered it, do not wish it, nor ever wished it.  All I ask is for it to STOP now.  I will NOT top-up until it stops. I have already lost some credit because of this unbearable nuisance.  I cannot be expected to bear the inconvenience of being without my phone, and, my long held mobile number.

I was having £4.50p/mth taken from Orange phonebill per month. Have texted STOP ALL to 88888 - but received a text back stating that I have no service with Jamster. Hoping that this will put a stop to things, but if there is a contact number for confirmation, it would be good to check?
    Regards

88888 is a download co called Jamster. My 12yr old went online and purchased a logo and inadvertently therefore contracted himself to £4.50 a week which was debited from his mobile phone account. The good news is... contacted Jamster (08701213186) and they were very helpful. As my son is a minor they agreed to cancel his contract immediately and to block his number so that this cannot happen again. As a good will gesture they are sending a cheque to refund the money taken from his account. (Not possible to refund directly to the top up card ). So all's well that ends well and good to know that these short dial no' download companies are genuine and do not intend to scam. They had his number because he had given it to them during the online contact and not because they ramdomly text. So anyone out there with a similar problem just call 08701213186 (national rate) and you should be able to resolve the issue.
I doubt if sending 'stop' by msn to 88888 would work as the contract needs to be cancelled.

Of course it is entirely possible that Jamster DO ramdomly text and that by replying you set up an'account' with them. Reading some of the other blogs this seems to have happened. Texts sent from 88888 worded along the lines " your product could not be delivered due to insuffient funds' are probably a scam. So if you haven't actually tried to purchase a download from them treat as such and delete it immediately. If you still keep getting them then contact them via the 08701213186 no. They will cancel anything that appears as a contract.
I not sure if they are targetting minors..may just be that minors are more likely to make the mistake of responding.
