- MarilynJamster 88888 - Fight Back
The messages from Jamster began when I was very busy at work and was regularly visiting a close relative in hospital. I didn’t check my bills for sometime. When I checked my latest bill found that I had been charged £22.50 for text message sent to me from Jamster. I have never authorised this company take payment from my telephone account and have not accessed their site.
Jamster had been plundering my account of £4.50 each week for weeks. I didn’t answer 3 text messages (each charged at £1.50), sent to me within split seconds of each other and deleted each one. Apparently, if I had opened them and wrote ‘stop’ no further messages and charges would be sent.
I contacted my network provider and stated that it was my intention cancel my direct debit payment if they failed to reimburse my account with all the charges made to it by Jamster. They agreed. I await confirmation of this.
I also pointed out that network providers should be far more supportive. How would a member of the public know how to stop a particular scam? The networks operators are fully aware that ‘stop’ presumably cures unlawful, fraudulent companies from robbing internet users. The network providers should be under a duty of care to their customers inform them of the latest scams and how to deal with them. Are they making too much money out of the scams themselves? How much of the £1.50 charge do the networks get?
‘Stop’ is the magic word that hopefully prevents further stealing but that is only a partial remedy for theft. What about the money that’s already been taken from network customers? - john taylor mitchellkeep receiving texts from 88888, which are charged at £1.25 each , approx £16 per month

- judith sewellhi i have had this number come up on my 14 yr old sons phone , we have been paying £4.50 a week for 3 months as we didnt realise it was being taken , my son sent his name and that of a girl to the number and was told how much of a match they were, then the charges followed the in next few days ,
i rang the number for 'JAMSTER' which someone else posted on here (thankyou) 0870 121 3186 and made a massive fuss , resulting in a partial refund of £13.50.
im shocked that these companies can do this to phones with out us realising ,
hope the phone number will be of use to the next person who needs it ,- Caller: JAMSTER
- jamesmy 12 yr old son and 9 yr old daughter played games on the internet (appropriate for their ages, not your call of duty etc)they innocently registered themselves onto a site.over 2 months they began receiving text messages from 88888 .my children did not answer the messages,or agree to any subscription or download anything, and up to the time that i became suspicious as to why their bills were becoming inexplicably larger they have accumulated a bill of £70 on top of their mobile phone contract amount.i immediately contacted 88888(jamster as it turns out),where without any pressure from me or me having to lose my temper i was calmly informed that their numbers would be blocked from this "service",i was even granted a refund without any argument.basically dont let your kids play ANY games on their pcs, thats what games consoles are for,as that seems to be how they are targetting children.all in all,a scam from a bunch of thieving scumbags.
