Why am I receiving these calls in South Wales? I just don't answer and I've told my parents. Does anyone else in Wales have this problem?

Homeserve ring me 3 times a day every day.  I have told them in no uncertain terms that I am not interested in them or their policies.  I asked  them not to ring me again.

The operator on the other end of the phone seemed to find my comments a big joke and started to snigger whilst apologising. From then on the calls increased.

This is blatant bullying. I am ignoring the calls now. For goodness sake why are these people still in business!

Trying to sell us insurance against things going wrong. We are already covered. I told man we do not want any and he asked to speak to my husband instead. I told him my husband would give him the same reply. We have had 5 calls from this number this afternoon and each time we pick the phone up the person hangs up. last year we had a new gas boiler fitted, loft insulation and cavity wall insulation under a government scheme and I get the impression it is something to do with this.  My husband is battleing 2 types of cancer at present and we could do with out this person taking the michael.

Keep a whistle by the phone ready to blow when you get another call from this number - for some reason they aren't keen on this...

I got a missed call from this number today, but it came up as 01922420057 so looked like a normal number- not something from overseas.

    No message left.

I have received no end of calls from 01922 420057 (Homeserve) and have finally got through to someone who seems to be able to help, if reluctantly at first.  Call 0800 247999 and hit option 4.  You then go through to the sales centre.  Tell them that you are calling in order to have your number removed from their cold calling list and that you would like to speak to a supervisor to ensure it gets done.  DO NOT BE FOBBED OFF, INSIST ON SPEAKING TO A SUPERVISER, I spoke to Jane Carson.  You will have to give out details of the number that's being called and your address "for security purposes", but do not worry about this, remember that the purpose of your call is to be removed from their list of numbers, so you're only giving it out to get through to the right person.

Jane explained to me that the way they work is by undertaking what they call "campaigns" of cold calling.  Each campaign lasts 6 weeks where they, and other companies to whom they outsource to do the dialling for them, call potential customers from various lists of numbers they acquire.  Jane stated that she would email the relevant people within the company to ensure my number was taken off all future campaigns, but could do nothing about any campaigns that were currently underway, so I may still get calls until the current campaign was completed.

Jane was helpful and divulged more information than I had obtained on previous calls, however I said I was not satisfied at having to endure up to a further 6 weeks of cold calls from them and that there must be a way of taking my number out of the current campaign, so asked to speak to her manager, whose name Jane said was Fiona Garner.

After approx 5 mins on hold, Jane came back on the line and said that she had been told it WAS possible to get my name off the current campaign too, but it would take 72 hours (which she clarified as 3 working days).  Well well, fancy that!!  She claimed not to have known that previously, so I got her to confirm that this is what she would now be telling all future complainants, and not the 6 week fob-off story.

I asked Jane to copy me in on the email she sends to get my number off the list which, bless her, she has done.  The email address she sent her email request to was HGBOutsourceSuppressions@homeserve.com and hers is jane.carson@homeserve.com from the signature blok on her email, she shows her direct dial number as 01922 606096.

If this doesn't stop the cold calling I'm not sure what will, but fingers crossed this helps all of you out there stop this company cold calling you once and for all.

Further to my earlier post, I've now received confirmation from a Samantha Dye at a company called Voice Marketing in Sheffield that my number has been removed.   Clearly these are one of the companies that Homeserve has outsourced the cold calling to.  Contact details in case anyone needs them are:

    Samantha.Dye@voicegroup.co.uk
    0114 321 0000

The last piece of the jigsaw would be to establish how these poeople got my number in the first place, but I think this might be a bit tricky.  Might require a bit of research into the Data Protection Act and a letter.....

Will post again in a few days time to advise whether I've had any more cold calls from Homeserve, i.e. whether my conversation with Jane has had the desired effect.

    Hi All,

To add a little more fuel to the fire. I received a call today, asking to speak with my wife. I said that she was at work. OK the well-spoken guy at the end of the phone replied "This is XXX Bank, nothing to worry about, we will call back later". That's strange I thought, why would he mention our Bank?

Anyway, I did 1471 & 3 to find out it was good old "Home serve". We recently signed up with the leaflet that comes through the mail from British Gas, £13-00 per month, for boiler maintenance etc., A couple of weeks later we had problem with the boiler & called in BG. Guy came along & fixed the problem, But said that there would be a charge of £256-00 for the replacement part? Is this not covered under the "BG" £13-00 a month maintenance contract? “No" he said, unfortunately it doesn’t?

We have cancelled our direct debit with Home serve / BG, also spoken with our Bank regarding the fraudulent use of their name on tale sales calls etc.

I would recommend that anyone reading this forum would do the same.

My girlfriend got a call from this number, who claimed to be from Santander and refused to explain why he was calling until she gave the first line of her address... she didn't, rang off and called Santander.  They would never do this sort of thing.

    Watch out!

Having already got insurances with HOMESERVE for drains.water supply, electric etc.. So why do we keep getting up to 4 calls a day from them, even after we have answered once before and asked them to remove our number from their list! We pay for a service, not to be harassed constantly by them. Pity we cant express our views in stronger language...Not that it would make any difference!

I also received these annoying calls from Homeserve.
I answered a call & inquired where they had got my details from. They informed me Severn Trent had provided the details. I told them that I had never given Seven Trent permission for my details to be used for this purpose, or to be passed onto any other company, & that I thought Homeserve & Severn Trent were breaking the Data Protection Act.
Homeserve told me they wouldn't call me again, which they haven't.

The main issue is that Severn Trent may be breaking the Data Protection Act by passing on customer details to Homeserve, without the customers knowledge or agreement.

This is typical of this dodgy company (Severn Trent) who try to extort as much money as possible from customers:-
    - Severn Trent won't provide a land line number for Customer Services, or call customers back (they say their Customer Services Call Centre is an 'inbound centre only), meaning they make money when people call their Customer Service on 08457 500 500, which can be expensive for callers - especially from mobile phones.

    - Homeserve itself may be a con, as the water companies have agreed to be responsible for piping to the properties. So it may be that the Homeserve service is unnecessary.

    - Homeserve may be related to Severn Trent, but this doesn't entitle Severn Trent to pass on or use customer details.

    - Severn Trent use the Data Protection Act to avoid giving customers information.

Somebody needs to report Severn Trent....

Homeserve's priority is not to provide a service for your home, but to serve themselves with your money for their home!!

I got a call today from them. Stating that they were from Anglian water and understood I had a contract with them of somesorts. After asking them what address this was under the gentlemen on the other end was unable to tell what it was. He then said 'what I'll have to do is-' and cut off. As far as I'm aware, this is the first call I've had from them, it's not massively encouraging though :/.

If only to keep the history going, I'm now getting the calls to my mobile. By chance, I've always missed them. By choice, I always will!

To whom should this be reported so we can all stop being pestered?
