- Rob replies to RickYes Rick it is a big scam ! ,do not hand over any details they are just pure scum ,plain and simple and abusive with it ,you do not have to be polite to this type of person they are scammers ,one minute they tell you they know your computer has a virus and next ,they are supposedly selling PPI ,all my extensive research tells me they are from India possibly the middle east but I doubt it ! ,unfortunately India is a hotbed for scammers probably because certain areas are so very poor and the gang masters take advantage of these types ,the lists are provided by people that you have done business with in the past ,an innocent survey ,possibly someone stopped you in the street or you completed an on line survey ?? ,best of luck from Rob ! . Ps do not give out any of your details ! .

- Neil the annoyed..!!!The number given by 1471 was 00501. The caller appeared to be Asian (by the accent of his voice) and later, identified himself as Justin White, which I very much assume is an alias..!!!
He told me he was from Microsoft tech department and he was ringing about my computer, which was giving reports to them that my pc was infected with virus's and malware. Knowing that this is a scam, as I have received many, many similar calls in the past. - I stopped counting after the 37th which was 18 month ago now and I must have had just as many since. I normally hang up, but sometimes pump for info which usually ends in the caller being nasty or hanging up.
This time, I humoured him and managed to get his name and phone number. He kept insisting I switch on my pc even though I had told him 5 times that there was no computer at my address and that my pc was at my work address which was a deception from me to try to get him to give me more info. I tried to get the info he was wanting me to type into my computer so I could determine what type of scam he was trying to pull, but he evaded the issue and said he'd call back and then hung up.
The number he gave was 08000480447 which is in fact, a Uk law company and has nothing to do with this scam call at all. I rang the number and told them that this caller was giving out this number as their own.
I have used many different techniques in the past, with these callers, to determine who, where and what they are trying to achieve. I have made several reports to the police, and Virgin media in hoping that they would manage in some way to stop or reduce these type of calls, but instead the number of calls have gone up!
I am very careful on the internet and have been using it ever since it came to the uk and yet these companies/scammers etc still manage to get hold of my info.(I'm even ex directory) This is an intolerable situation yet no one has yet come up with any (free) solutions to the problem. Virgin Media told me to change my number, which would prove to be a worthless exercise as I changed it several years ago due to a similar problem and still carried on receiving unwanted phone calls.
I could purchase a call blocker box, or pay for a call screening service, but why should I have to do this?
Its a sad world that we live in, that with today's technology these multi Billion pound companies cannot combat these type of unwanted calls for free...!!!
OK - Rant over..... LOL- Caller: Microsoft tech department (so they say)
- IwontbescammedNice rant Neil ! LOL
I get call from these people too, always wanting some personal info.
This time it was a bloke with an indian accent called himself 'Jackson' and claimed he was from 'UK compensation line' there was about 2 second delay on the phone line which made talking very difficult eventually he asked me if i had an accident in last 3 years. Told him no and put the phone down.
"Jackson" - ha! that's a good one
UK compensation line is not registered at companies house, so is not a UK company.
Phone No is not UK- Caller: UK Compensation line
- Call type: Telemarketer
- ElaineKeep getting calls from this number, but we don't answer them! We assume they are trying to sell something, or worse, with that sort of number!
- Mary McKinnellHave had several calls from this no. asking me to switch on my computer so they can refund money I paid for computer security.I refused as I was caught out before and ended up parting with £99.99.They know my e-mail address too.
- leylaI just got a call from 00501 a couple of mins ago 18.30. As soon as I answered they disconnected the line. I immediately typed the number on google and this site popped up. hmmm strange
- NikkoGot a call today from an Indian sounding guy claiming the computer had a virus and that his company would be acting on behalf of Microsoft. Somewhat disconcerting that he knew my post code and address. He wanted me to press the 'Windows' button and 'R' simultaneously (see http://money-watch.co.uk/7118/beware-of-the-windows-phone-scam-) which of course I did NOT. After some scrambling he gave me some funny numbers to call his 'verification officer' that did not start with 0 - when told that UK numbers start with 0 he hung up.
- Caller: IT Innovative Solutions - Scam
- MaverockThis number has contacted me twice today. First time, this morning, the answer machine kicked in (as I was at work) and recorded some person (foriegn voice) on the other end who asked for me by surname but obviously did not hear the answerphone outgoing message; "Hello? Mr ####? Speak up please sir, speak up?" and then rang off.
They tried again this evening. This time, no message left.
I've no idea who it is trying to contact me, but it is interesting that they have my surname as well as my home number
Reading some other posts related to this number, I've had a 'Microsoft Windows' call once before - someone claiming to be from Windows informing me that my computer was infected and that he would talk me through downloading clean up software. When I asked how he could possibly know I had a virus, he rang off. Not sure if this relates to the same number. - Chris BJust had call from 00501, asking to speak to homeowner
I said no and hung up - mr shrewi recieved a call from 00501 and was told there was an unwanted programe running on my pc and if i went online he would guide me through how to stop it,i told him that i use a chromebook which wont alloy this to happen, and that i work in IT for microsoft,so do youself a favour and f##k off
- Caller: 00501 scam
- Meredith John| 1 replyRcvd call from this number a few minutes ago - Asian accent calling himself 'Timothy'. Asked for home owner and then asked if my boiler was over 10 years old and was I on benefits...
These 'people' have fingers in so many pies - mostly scams, but maybe they are now trying to go legit., as some people do qualify for free boiler replacement...
My advice: AVOID!!!- Call type: Telemarketer
