MARCIA - PSCA Intl keeps ringing and I keep telling her to send over an email or something through the post as we do not take any unsolicited telephone calls - my god she doesn't give up so all we do is hang up on her now.!!

You'll be glad to hear that they've now changed tactics and are emailing/spamming all the time
I've had calls from these guys for 10 years - never bought a thing
Did the TPS thing and apparently they were warned off - we've not had any calls since
But now we're getting spammed all the time on email - I unsubscribe but they just find more company related email addresses and send their crap again
Best thing to do with the calls - just leave the handset to one side and let them talk to themselves for 10 minutes - works a treat and is very funny!

What an interesting read these pages are.

I work for an FT250 company, not a tinpot organisation, and I have never encountered a sales approach as awful as that employed by Public Services.  The products are worthless from a marketing ROI point of view and there is absolutely no hint that they are "selling to needs" as an earlier poster suggested.  It's a hustle, plain and simple.

I have been swapping e-mails with Gordon Warrender who heads this company.  I am staggered that there are so many other folk who have taken the time to express their dissatisfaction with his business.

We have been phoned many times after advising Warrender that our company should be removed from his lists.  He provides categoric assurances and then ignores them.  His staff write him illiterate e-mails which he forwards on.

I have now taken on the responsibility of doing all that I can to get the authorities to recognise the antics of this business.  My hope is that severe sanctions can be imposed because although Warrender is smart, and remarkably arrogant, his business has to comply with the laws of the land.

Hilarious, Why dont you phone the Barbican they only listj their own events and this is an event taking place and has done for over 5 years very successfully.  The comment was posted by a small rival event business who concentrate on PS Events more than their own business.  I have taken a stand at everyone of their excellent events.

Many of these postings are from genuine businesses that have been called too often after having been asked to be put on a manual suppression list. Unfortunately, this list only works when used correctly. In order to counteract the problem of employees not using the list properly, the company is now about to invest in number suppression technology which will completely remove this issue and bar the phone system from calling listed numbers. However, there are many postings on this site that are distasteful, malicious, unfair and untrue written obviously by people who clearly believe it is ok to leave personal insults. These people are rude, unprofessional and it is their aim to harm PSCA as a business and gain personally as a result because they work in rival organisations. We know who these people are and the companies involved, we will not lower ouselves to their level. If this site was credible, it would not allow posts of this nature and bar the offending IP addresses from posting again in the future. Unfortunately it is not. Any future postings of this nature say more about the person leaving the comment than it does about us, whilst there is undoubtedly a problem with call suppression we need to address, it also says that we are getting many things right if other publishing and events companies and individuals within those companies continue to be obsessed by us. If you have a genuine concern and wish to be added to the list, email donotcall@publicservice.co.uk and your request will be actioned.

I am pretty sure that the above post was written by Wendy Wood, the Chief Operating Officer at PSCA.

It might interest you to know that Ms Wood included the following sentence in an e-mail that she sent to me on the 22nd September:

We are an aggressive sales organisation, selling advertising and sponsorship is not an easy business and some companies will not appreciate being sold to forcefully but we do not and will not apologise for taking our business very seriously.  

I have done my best to explain to Ms Wood that an order should be the natural outcome of a sales negotitation since there are mutual benefits.  I am not certain she understood.  Nonetheless, she did seek to impress on me the quality of PSCA products, bizarrely by telling me that:

To put this into perspective and get it into context, our sales team consists of the following:

70 people making 50 calls per day = 3500 per day
5 days = 17500 calls per week
In addition, our marketing team send out over 250,000 emails every day

To my mind, this simply tells me that the products are probably dreadful because there must be plenty of companies telling them 'no', many repeatedly. Their turnover is modest and the latest set of accounts comes with a cautionary note from the auditor questioning their ability to continue operating as a going concern.

same thing, yesterday 4th Oct - 28 minutes on a pointless call from an idiot who was determined to get through what was written in front of him irrespective of my replies. I have no interest in their product - I asked for an email from them so I can determine myself what their capability is but that never arrived. They have called again today a dozen times - I have no intention of answering. These people are verging on harrassing people....

Two of my posts have been removed - I wonder why?

To clarify, I'm not the Matt that references "c***ts" at the top, not my style.

And to PSCA employees coming on here trying to water down the content to hide the truth - every time you visit this page, let alone post on it, you're helping us push it up the google rankings.

If you google for PSCA International, you'll see that this page is now in 3rd place. When I started on this little crusade, you were at around 11th place so you're actually helping to expose your guilt, which is superb, thank you.

They are at it again.

A new rule has been introduced that staff must state the company name is 'Public Service'. Those staff that are allowed to answer the phone anyway.

Not hard to work out why.

Most of their business comes from Europe these days anyway - where people don't know them and the stink around them isn't quite so strong.

Thes guys are [***], keep ringing every day, thankfully only about twice, I know what they are up to so why do they bother. Have really funny chats, its a good way to practice your phone skills and manner. Just pretend to be the director that they are looking for and have a roundabout conversation but be polite and professional, they should open up a new business instead of selling crap.
This number is a telepest and don't give them too much attention, they're are 4 other numbers too that they ring from, never buy anything from them, I haven't and I will never be bullied into it either.

Incidentally, if you type "PSCA international" or just PSCA then a single space, into google, it predicts "PSCA International Complaints" as the 2nd most popular search string.

Not a surprise but did make me smile.

I will not stop until they're in liquidation or simply fold. I'm sure there's a few decent people within the company somewhere, questioning what the hell they're doing with their lives, and for them I hope they find alternative employment swiftly and move on in a much more positive manner as I wouldn't with unemployment on anyone.

As for the rest, ban them from owning or using telephones for life and save us all the pain. They can stuff envelopes from home instead.

Started referring to themselves as 'publicservice.co.uk' on the phone so that people who pick up do not Google 'PSCA' and see these pages. My company has seen through this despicable lie.

This company actively encourages its sales staff to lie, and their sales staff will often pretend to be director of the company, editor of the publication etc in order to seal a deal. Totally fraudulent activity. We used them once and got nothing like what we were sold, yet were unable to get our money back.

There are other companies who do the same and no doubt have sabotaged these pages, but Gordon Warrender really is a horrible piece of work and many of his sales staff are taught to be just the same.

For years they rang us and used various nefarious ways of getting me on teh phone so they could try and cheat money from me. PSCA became a byword in our business for dodgy or underhand dealings. They started to get more success when they changed their name to 'public service' and managed to get past my PA that way. However they used the same tired old techniques and I quickly rumbled that it was them again.

A friend of mine who works at Private Eye told me that PE were quite interested in them and sent me a pdf of an article by the great, late Paul Foot. I have cut a short passage from it below for all to see in teh hope that forum's like these will alert more people to the sort of instincts and morals these people have.

Irronically, when I had had enough and asked to speak to the MD I was passed through to a man called Gerrod Mellor who told me he was a compnay director. I subsequently learnt that was just another in the litany of lies they tell. Mellor is a Sales Manager, and an odious and utterly charmless one at that. He assured me that the calls would stop but, of course, they haven't. We now take their calls, pretend we are interested but pass them to one of our interns or office juniors and tell them to pretend they are a director of our company. This not only gives our younger members of staff a crash course in how not to behave professionally but has the added nonus of wasting PSCA's time and annoying the oiks who work in their sales team.

Anyway - here is a quote from Private Eye article which has much more information on their misleading claims about distributuion numbers and an admission from Gordon Warrender, Sales Director, that ministers don't actually write articles for them (a view not shared by his own staff who continue to claim taht they are so close to ministers I am surprised the forthcoming nuptials have not yet been announced)

The DTI forced them into a name change after Companies House concluded that agency name was “so misleading an indication of the nature of  its activities as to be likely to cause harm to the public” and likely to make both readers and advertisers believe it was a government agency and its magazines officially sanctioned.
