There giving a BT number to be called on their voicemail message, and telling people they can call it, to stop further calls. Which isn’t possible, because BT doesn’t have their number on their system. That’s what I call being deliberately deceptive, and representing themselves as BT company. If they’re not a BT company, then they shouldn’t be giving out the BT (0800 0282272) phone number, it’s as simple as that.

ALSO…

They’re phoning about customers who have previously been with BT, to offer them a deal, or have not read through this whole thread, you stupid idiot. And how do you know, I’m not with Virgin, you stupid ass***. Think before you speak.


The point being, I’ve never been with BT in the past, (and I’m not with BT now) and no one should have my number, bearing in mind everything I’ve stated on here so far. And having asked repeatedly, not to be phoned up, I should have the option to be shown some courtesy and respect, and have the calls stopped.

My last reply to Sally H, (And I’m not entirely sure what the H stands for, but I think we can rule out honorable lol) was what I call “pure comedy Gold”, you just can’t buy that kind of material.

UPDATE FROM MY FIRST POST….

Just wanted to give an update my ongoing situation…

In my first post I stated that the 01709764400-phone number, didn’t appear to be a legit BT number, this was based on 3 calls, to 3 different operators, over 3 separate days, informing me that the number was not on their system and was therefore not a BT number. So I was just going off the information I was given at the time.

BT Customer services, have now changed their tune, and have told me that it is a legitimate BT number. They have apologized for the fact, that I have received, so many calls from them, and are now investigating the following things.

(A) How they got my number, bearing in mind, I’ve never given my number out, I’m on TPs, ex-directory and not with BT!

(B) Why the BT (0800 0282272) services and billing department didn’t have the 01709764400-phone number, on their system, which essentially resulted in me being given the run around, and not being able to have the calls stopped.

(C) And why they are phoning someone (i.e. myself) who hasn’t been with BT in the past, while breaking the Tps rules. (And bearing in mind, I’m not with BT, so I haven’t agreed to any affiliated promotions, in my contract etc)


BT customer services, are going to contact me within 3 working days…regarding all of the above.


I’ll post an update on here, as soon as I receive a call back from them…


As for the calls themselves, they seemed to have stopped now (but I’m only 2 days in, to receiving no calls from them), but I was basically getting called roughly twice a day, for 2 straight weeks, which resulted in about 10-12 blank messages being left on my answering machine.

Hi I got a call from these people twice , first a man asked to speak to the bill payer but wouldnt say why ! I hung up that time ! Next evening a woman asked to speak to the bill payer I asked why and she said something about it being a BT phone number well as I am on Virgin I told her so , but she kept trying to convince me that was not right ! Finally I told her to get lost  and that I was sure it was a scam and I threatened to ring the police , so far they havent rang back , curious to know who they were ?

Man this so ridiculous.

BT customer services, has now changed their tune again, and is now saying it’s NOT a legitimate BT Number or an affiliated BT Number.

They said they’re still investigating the number, and will get back to me within 10 working days.

comedy gold will be the bt customer services laughing down the other end of the phone because they've got a numpty on the phone asking about a phone number, not dealing with general enwuiries about bills, or genuine complaints. How bord are you in life to take something that happens to everybody everyday so personally?

i had a missed call from this number they are partners of  BT not BT THEMSELVES you can ring 0800282272 to stop they calling but it rings engaged all the time

Several missed calls from this number. Managed to answer yesterday and they hung up when i said hello. Annoying, especially when i am registered with TPS.

Was called from this number, they knew who the bill payer was (my partner). They claimed to be BT though I instantly knew they wernt so I gave them some good old attitude and they hung up. They later called back and my partner answered said her name and then they hung up again.

The Person Phones us all the time calling us "mr campbell " no one of that name lives here i really don,t know who or why they keep phoning

Had a call today from them and i informed them that the were ringing up a caravan site and i was the keeper of this site.

Of course i lied my socks off and tried so hard not to laugh as to what i was saying and its not the first time they have rang either.

Oh well......no doubt i will get another call from them soon and this time i will go from a campsite to a nudist site instead

wonder who calls me from this number

This number calls me every day I never answer it the answer phone cuts in anh they immediately ring off. There would appear to be pages on this numbers nuisance calls.

Had several calls from this number 01709 764400, with the silent treatment many times when answered.  Decided to look it up but have not called them back.  Thanks for the information.

They called today, but didn't leave a message.

Calls from this number start at 8 in the morning. I am sick of them. They never leave a message either.

I get calls every day from this number but never pick up. Anyone know how to stop them?

dont know if this is any help,
but if you get a call from this number again like i have had on several occasions then try hiting the hash button on answering, very quickly for six or seven times, as i know this knocks your number they have dialled out of their system, and so puts and end to these irrating calls,
i know this works with all the ppi calls that you get so hopefully will do the same with this caller,
you can only but try.
