Report a phone call from 0178999999999 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- GeraldineHi, just been called by this number with automated voice saying I'd won a holiday to the Bahamas and to dial 9.
Chose to google it instead and hey presto decided to leave my comments as well - steveJust had the call about winning a holiday - as soon as I heard the automated American voice I disconnected. I too am registered with TPS - doesn't seem much help especially as I had unsolicited call from Carphone Warehouse earlier this week.
Recently moved line rental from BT to Sky - could this be relevant? - PikehandSame here Same number but I didn't answer Got the number from 1471 My supplier is Orange so I don't think that your phone company has any bearing on these types of call. I didn't want a cruise in the Bahamas any way
- GordonRecieved call from this number this morning, put the phone down as soon as recorded message started
- Tim ArmitHad a call saying I had won a free holiday, pressed 9 as currently registered with TPS.
Operator (Nancy) asked who I was, I replied householder, and asked her why she was calling, given that I am registered with TPS.
She asked how much that cost, I replied it's free.
She said "So you got what you paid for then"
I said, "A bit like your free holidays" and put the phone down
Cheeky bint ! - RayI got this today - 4:45 pm - as soon as I heard "Congratulations" in an American accent I replaced the phone.
- MikeHad a call tonight. I am on TPS too and am annoyed at these companies phoning up from abroad. I understand that international numbers can be blocked but they just block them all I have a couple of people I know who live abroad who I do want to receive calls from, it is a pity it cannot be made selective. These companies who sell like that over the phone are the cesspit of business. I just wonder the mentality of those who take them up on the offer they must have some dimwits who take up the offer or they would not do it.
- OrpheusHad a call from this number this morning (18.11.08) although I didn't answer it (dialled 1471). Googled it as a suspicious number and found this website.
I think that I agree with most of the comments; the one positive for me is finding out, because of this site, that there are a lot of other people out there just as irritated as me. - kellysDo not press 9, it will take money & add the cost to your phone bill
It's a con - JuneI too had this call today heard an American voice and hung up, but I like Johns Idea, I would love to bombard them whith mail too, and make their life a misery
- Caller: male american recorded
- SeanHad the call today. Some pre-recorded garbage, male with American Accent. Just put the phone down on the call. Did a search and appears to be a marketing company who do time share stuff. Found info on holidaywatchdog dot com.
Shame there is no contact details i.e. as would love to send them an e-mail. - anonymous18 Nov, call at 7.45 - all i head was random winner and florida before hanging up
- GavinHad call here before I could get to the phone - dialed 1471 for number but non-existent.
We are on TPS but found that has done little to prevent these random dialers. - SiobhanYup, got one too. Very cheeky! 1471'd it and like Rupe it took a couple of goes to get all the 9's!
- DerekFamily awoken at home 0530h morning of 15th Nov, 0215h morning of 16th Nov, caller withheld, we removed phone from socket. During day of 15th, phone rang, dial tone on answering, but 1471 revealed below number. Have ex-directory and call preference, recently bought flights with Easyjet and Ryanair, had to give home no. but did not subscribe to marketing. Now take phone out at night. Phone provider says cannot help.
- Caller: unkown
- NathanHad one of these last night. I've heard of them before though so knew it was a scam - pressing 9 connects you to a premium rate number.
It's worth remembering that registering with TPS isn't going to stop illegal scam calls or calls from companies operating abroad who have no UK presence.
And yes - Caller ID can be spoofed quite easily so I doubt the scammers can be traced through 0178999999999.
Don't answer them and certainly don't press any keys to try and talk to them to complain!- Caller: Unknown
- TerryJust had a call from that number - I'm glad I missed it and checked on the
internet first!. With regard to TPS, does BT realy have that little control over who phones us or are they making money out of it too? - Andy GHad calls from this number both at the shop that I run, and also on my home number at approximately the same time (10.30am), which suggests they are blanket calling entire area codes at random.
Ignored the one at work; no message left on answerphone. Also no message left on the home phone either.
I am registered with TPS but I guess there's little they can do to prevent calls like these from outside the UK.- Caller: Unknown
- Neil Micklewrightsilent call when answered, they hung up after about 15 seconds.
- bobbysame story, random dialler, "you've won blah blah blah". no reason to press 9 as the recording advises (worst case scenario you're charged loads for a call and/or you confirm your phone number for other scam companies, best case scenario someone is trying to sell you something dodgy.
