Report a phone call from 0178999999999 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- MedeThere are quite a few of these international numbers that get through. Is there an international telephone preference service?
- beardyian4:42 pm "Congratulations - you have been randomly selected...." in an American accent - i hung up and dialled 1471.
Tried ringing back (141 first of course) no such number - googled it and here i am.- Caller: ?
- MikeyCall at 20:50 tonight - put the phone down straight away. However, not sure they can scam you for a call as they called you - pressing 9 would charge them rather than you for the call.
- GraemeThey rang just now. I didn't pick up since the number was obviously fake, but at least it cost them something to receive my OGM.
- TickedOffThe problem with the phone system is it's a piece of cake to fake your number if you make a call with a computerised dialler. And, they called me at 7:44pm today; pressing 9 to speak to a human just doesn't work. Calling it back gives an engaged-like tone.
Anyone who finds out who these idiots are is a saint.- Caller: NOT GIVEN
- SteveHad a call from them today, once I heard 'Congratualtions, you have been selected at random' I hung up, this could be one of those reverse charge scams
- Caller: didnt ask, didnt tell
- cathyyou have won a holiday to florida
- Caller: 0178999999999
- DavidGot this call as well at 6.20pm, twice since I did'nt answer it. Does look like they are block calling areas, I'm in northern Ireland. Never answer a number I don'nt know anyway but wish they could be stopped.
- Caller: Did not answer it, twice.
- ballinleaDid not try this on this phonecall but on one like it I decided to press 3 instead of the number they suggested. This brought the following response 'Your number has been removed from our dialling list' Worth a try!!
- raybassHad same call today at 13:49. There was a few seconds of silence when i kept saying 'Hello' then as soon as i heard this 'Congratulations, you have been selected at random....', I hung up.
- Paul Hugheswon a holiday press 9!
- Caller: unknown
- janfromlondonHad this number 0178999999999 call this evening at approx 19.40. Call disconnected as I picked up the phone
1471'd it - tried to call it back by pressing 3 to receive the "unavailable" tone. Googled it to find this site. I have a business number and despite TPS keep getting this type of nuisance call from overseas. - michaelhad one last night - called the BT nuisance line and was told that these calls are coming in from computer generated calls from outside the UK - so sadly the telephone preference scheme does not apply. They are setting the caller id to 017899 9999999
- alexthese mugs av called my house fone saying id won a holiday, wel i dont want it so you fcuking have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Caller: 0178999999999
- AnnJust phoned Bt nuisence calls about this number which keeps ringing me at several times a day sometimes quite late at night and they said it is a dummy number generated from overseas and as it is outside the UK law they cannot do anything about it except to offer to exchange your current phone number for another one which would not solve the issue.
BT said this 0178999999999 number usually target a particular area for a few weeks and then move on to another area.
They make the phone number look like a UK number ie 01289 code so that you will pick up your phone and answer it. - NickIf BT are routing the calls then it should be possible for them to pattern match the CLI and reject the call on the basis that it's fraudulent. But I suppose the callers would just switch to a random valid albeit non-existent number so this wouldn't solve anything and would make it harder to spot for us.
When this happens I just leave the phone on speaker until they hang up just in case it wastes their money, although the calls are most likely to be VoIP and could be free for them. I've also heard dtmf tones played from some of these companies on answering, and I don't know if that's trying to trick the phone into dialing a new number out. Never press any buttons out of curiosity. - OgechiJohn, I strongly agree with you. If anyone has got their postal address, let's bombard them with unstamped mails. They called and I picked up the phone and they quickly hung up.

- paulaRegistered with everything possible and we are ex directory. Still get these calls constantly and it seems the more you call and ask to be removed the more you get them. Just had this number call three times in a row and fill the answer phone with silences AGAIN!!! Sick of being pestered at all hours as it makes you worry when the phone goes very late or very early. No-one thinks about these things any more these companies are all too greedy!
Any ideas how to really stop them? - DerekJust received a call from this number offering holidayson a recorded message.
- RebekahHave received two calls from this number in the last 24 hours saying I have won a holiday. I've hung up both times.
