I got 6 calls in the last 20 minutes from this number. I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, so didn't answer any of these. Just answered the 7th one now, and it was a legitimate message from someone I know.

This is Telstra Text Message Service 019 833 9100, if you ring it back, you get a high pictch sound, & then engage signal....what is it is, infect the number, Telstra uses to send the text from either another Telstra Home phone, Or their mobile phone, or even a Telstra payphone.
Yes it will send a text message to your phone, whether or not, your phone is set-up to receive Text Messages. The Ph Number is designed to ring you 1st to let you know, that you have a email or text message.I too discovered this number, & thought it very unusual, just recent, si googled it, got this page, & after reading 3/4 of this page, i realized, what the number was, after ringing it several times myself. Got up to my $ 6.36/month text phone,..read the message, just sent to me...But if you don't have such a phone, then you don't get the message.
have a nice day all then

0198339100 - called claiming to be from Vault Tech. Claimed that 'your computer has a virus'. Hubby asked for their ABN, which the hubby wrote down. As he was writing it down I checked it on ABN Lookup, and it proved to be false. They then claimed to have called the wrong number & hung up.

Most messages don't translate correctly (text to voice) and you end up with garbled messages. Its a stupid service and opens another door to be pestered by telemarketers.
    • Caller: note sure - I hung up

1st call i answered said i have 3 voice messages, and started to talk about what sounded like a horoscope prediction. Between 4pm and 11pm last night i recieved 8 phone calls. From 8.13am to 1.30pm i have recieved 7 calls - none of which i have answered since 1st one. I am currently on phone to telstra who are, as usual giving me the runaround transferring me to different departments - typical telstra at its finest

Wow, this was harder than it needed to be.

I was receiving calls (1 ring every 45 minutes) from this number, as a result of an SMS being sent to our home VOIP service (which can't do SMS). The problem is, if your phone number isn't provided by Telstra it can be possible to log a fault with Telstra.

Here's how I fixed the problem:

    1. I texted my VOIP number from my Telstra mobile

    2. Range Telstra faults on 132205 then reported a fault with my mobile with telstra on 132205 that I accidentally SMS text'ed a friends landline, and the friend was repeatedly receiving calls from Telstra's text service. It took a lot of convincing for them to log the call, but it obviously got through to the right area, because it was quickly fixed.

    3. Once fixed, the Telstra Talking Text service called me and read the problem message and my message (from step 1) to me. Any future texts will be handled the same way.

The result is that if text's are sent to your number, a computer voice reads them out to you. When this happens, you can also access settings to allow you to change your preferences, including disallowing future notifications. Personally I'm happy with the computer voice.
