- Lyn JonesOur medical centre got a call from this with disturbing information from a patient. We are trying to locate the patient to check on their welfare.
- reception| 6 repliesA recorded voice claiming they have a text message for you.
I thought it might be a deaf service. ( I get relay calls sometimes). So i like to make sure I am not hanging up on a proper customer.
Nope.. started to rattle a heap of numbers... I just hung up. AT least this way I don't have to fight with a cold caller to get rid of them.- Call type: Telemarketer
- sheila rule| 1 replythis number rings all day and middle of night 1am
- reception replies to receptionreceived a verbal text message from 0400 997 639
It stated I have 2 messages.. the first one from the above number, saying they are in a meeting and can I text them back.. No idea whom they are.
the second message I don't know as I hung up from this crap service. - Alan from Telstra replies to sheila ruleSheila Rule,
If you are talking about the Talking Text service, it shouldn't ring you at 1:00am.
There is a curfew for this service and the default settings are to stop sending at midnight and start again at 08:00am. You can change the curfew times or turn it off altogether and have the messages delivered 24 hours.
The menu for this is available at the end of the last message. Dial 3 to enter the setup to change the curfew:
Option 2 gives you the night time settings
Night time delivery:
You will be given these further options
(1) Set non delivery time to Midnight to 8:00am (This is the default setting).
(2) Set delivery to 24 hours.
(3) Customise delivery time by setting the start and end times to times that suit you.
If you are with Telstra you can also dial 019833999 to access the menu.

Alternatively, if you have an SMS capable telephone, the SMS memory might be full and the handset is answering the call but unable to store another message.
You can find some information on how to solve this on:

Hope this helps
Alan - Alan from Telstra replies to reception| 4 repliesTalking Text SMS:
Received calls from 0198339100 and 0198339999 is Telstra's Talking Text service.
If you receive a call from this number it is someone trying to send you an SMS.
If you have SMS capable equipment, T-hub, other SMS capable handset or a fax machine, it will be able to receive the message, otherwise it will read the SMS out to you using a computerised voice.
When you pick up the phone, say something to trigger the delivery otherwise it will start in about 5 seconds.
It will tell you how many SMS messages there are in the opening greeting then begin playing the first message.
After it has read out each message it will read out the senders phone number and the time/date it was sent. If there is more than one message it will read out each of the messages in the order they were received. Each message is deleted once it is read.
During the message being read out you can press:
1 To replay the message (replay each message up to 3 times).
2 To reply to the message – Telstra customers (see below for list of reply options).
5 To delete the message (If there are more messages, it will begin reading the next message).
6 To go to next message (It will automatically delete the previous message).
Reply messages:
1 yes
2 No
3 OK
3 Please call me
4 I'll call you later
5 Smiley face
6 Sad face
Once all messages have been delivered you will be given the option to go into settings by dialling 3
In the setup menu you will be given the following options:
(1) Delivery mode – Talking text only or Auto detect (see below).
(2) Night Time – (see below).
(3) Ring time – (see below).
(4) CLIR – for silent line services that wish to send messages.
Delivery Mode:
If you have SMS capable equipment and want the SMS messages to be delivered as Talking Text.
Auto mode – Delivers as Talking Text to normal handsets, and SMS to SMS capable handset.
Talking Text Only – Delivers all messages as Talking Text.
Night time:
You will be given these further options
(1) Set non delivery time to Midnight to 8:00am (This is the default setting).
(2) Set delivery to 24 hours.
(3) Customise delivery time by setting the start and end times to times that suit you.
Ring Time:
Set it to a custom value to hang up before being answered by an answering machine. - reception replies to Alan from Telstra| 2 repliesReceived another message. Fast talking woman speaking large numbers. No actually proper message. I hung up FROM THIS CRAP SERVICE.
I have 12 incoming lines at work. I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS. I will hang up every time. - reception1 replies to reception| 1 replyMore crap.
- Trix| 1 replyThis No is extremely annoying. It only gives 1 ring but it rings continuously all day & night. It is probably an Overseas computerised call but very annoying when it keeps ringing till 4am.
- Alan from Telstra replies to TrixTrix,
If the phone is ringing only once, This will be because there is an SMS capable handset responding to the call. (t-hub etc)
If the handset is not receiving the message:
Check that the memory is full on the handset, delete some older messagesto allow the new message to be delivered.
If you have more than one SMS capable handset on the line, they may be clashing, set the Terminal ID to 1 on the second handset.
If all else fails, dial 0198339999 and it will play the pending message out to you. You can also set the delivery to Talking Text only by going into the settings and changing the delivery type from Auto to Talking text.

Alan - pfft. replies to reception1message saying " I don't have time to talk." Then why Fkn text!
Mobile number was 0409 993 656. This is a waste of my time. I followed Alan's instructions to have this turned off. It obviously didn't work. No wonder I cancelled my home Telstra account. Horrible service. - George McGhieDon't know who it is, don't know how they got my number. Don't want them, won't be paying for the calls.
- J SempleTwo calls received on work telephone with automated voice announcing that there were 3 text messages. I listened to the first, but it was nonsense, so I hung up. Within 10 minutes the same number called again, with same automatic voice announcing I had 2 text messages but again the message was unclear and so I have hung up again. If this is an automated talking text system, then it isn't working and the caller with the service needs to be informed that it is an ineffective means of contact. However, the fact that this number has been reported so consistently, I would expect it is a nuisance call.
