I'll be ringing those useless mugs at telstra to do something about this.

I have been receiving these calls too. 2am!!!!!! Thanks OPTUS "YES" I'm going to try that. Ok has anyone noticed that these talking texts have a different ring tone when they call? Until I can sort this out I have been ignoring them during the day and I take the phone off the hook at night. I have my mobile by the bed (they haven't called that yet) in case a family member or friend calls.

                               Cheers
                                   SJ

After reading all of these messages... came across the most relevant info from Robert (thanks Robert16 Dec 2009)

I also found it's a Telstra Talking text message. - It was my sister - she sent an SMS to my landline by mistake... (didn't know it was possible) If you have a missed call from 0198339100 on your landline phone - Ring 0198339999 to hear the message (and then delete it) End of Story...

If you don't want the service call Telstra on 132203 to disable it...

    Cheers!

We have been getting the single tone ring too - I spoke with Telstra - this is due to someone trying to send a talking text message to a landline and your phone is not compatible. To clear the message and stop the single tone ring - you need to ring 0198339999 (very similar to the 0198339100 number) and listen to all the message (s) - work your way to the end and clear all message otherwise phone will continue to keep ringing. You can call Telstra on 132203 and ask them to canel this service for your phone number otherwise it can happen again. (Note the cancellation doesn't happen straightaway - but from midnight)

These settings are provided as information only, and the settings should be confirmed with the local network operator. Inclusion does not confirm that Z-text has been tested on a particular operator’s network. Some networks require registration; this is typically done by sending “register” to a short code. Registration is required so that the service provider knows to deliver incoming messages as text, rather than as speech.

Where more than one incoming number is shown for a country, it is recommended that each of them is included in the incoming message centres. Where more than one outgoing message centre is shown, it may be necessary to register with each one, and then set the outgoing number to the preferred operator.

If any doubt exists as to the exact incoming number, replace the last few digits of the number with *. Used on its own without any preceding digits will cause the Z-text modem to answer all incoming calls, including calls that are not incoming text messages.

It should be remembered that Calling Line Identity must not be withheld, and Caller Identification Display must be enabled.

Clicking on a hyper linked Country will open that service provider's web page for Fixed Line SMS in a new window.

Thanks, this is useful. But we still had no messages, when I called Telstra yesterday, they said they will block any calls coming from this no. to our landline, however didn't mention it was a message service, hence why I'm here.

We got 13 calls yesterday from this no 0198339100. It all sounds very very dodgy, who sends a blank message to a landline.
