How can these idiots keep getting our number which is on the 'do not call list' and is a private number.. where do we all go to stop it??

The do not call register applies to telemarketers cold calling you to sell you something.
This is an SMS delivery service, the people who are sending you the messages are usually your friends. Let the message play out fully and it will read out the phone number of the caller at the end of the message. Give them a call and give them a piece of your mind.....

Got these all day today. First one at 6:30am and then constantly throughout the day. I ended up unplugging my phone. We have a private number so how the heck did they get the number? Not impressed. Gave the company our phone is with a piece of my mind too.

I only answered it once at 6:30 this morning, didnt answer after that. Recorded message saying they were from Zynga and I should buy chips to play poker. I didnt hear all of it, I hung up. I do not play Zyngas poker! My husband does on his phone. He plays as a guest and does not have a registered account. Neither of us use Facebook so I couldnt report it to Zynga.

So now I have to keep my phone unplugged because of idiots.

Started calling my mobile yesterday morning around 10am & then every 10 minutes for about one hour, then on the half hour for the next three hours, then sporadically, with the last call about 10 minutes ago - only rings about four times then stops ; no messages left. I have not given the mobile number out to anybody and have not registered with any online games or similar. Thought it may have been thing to do with my IP work phone, which forwards to that mobile number. Appreciate any advice. Could not ring the number back - just says not recognised and the call fails to progress.

0198339100 is Telstra's Talking Text service

If you receive a call from this number it is someone, probably a friend of yours, sending you an SMS.
If you have SMS capable equipment, T-hub or SMS capable handset, it will be able to receive the message, otherwise it will read the SMS out to you using a computerised voice.

When you pick up the phone, say something to trigger the delivery otherwise it will start in about 5 seconds.
It will tell you how many SMS messages there are in the opening greeting then begin playing the first message.
After it has read out each message it will read out the senders phone number and the time/date it was sent.

During the message being read out you can press:
    1 to replay the message
2 to reply to the message
    5 to delete the message
6 to go to next message ( it will automatically delete the previous message )

Once all messages have been delivered you will be given the option to go into settings
    In Setting you can:
Change the number of rings until it hangs up - you can set this just short of when an answering machine answers just in case you don't want the messages on your answering machine.
Set all deliveries to Talking Text - just in case you have an SMS capable phone but want the messages read out to you.
Change the time the messages stop delivering at night and begin delivering in the morning.
Set the service to deliver 24 hours

The service wil also do its best to translate SMS acronyms like LOL, ROFL AAMOF :) :-( etc
    Don't send emoji or emoticons.

If you are with Telstra, you can dial 0198339999 to access pending messages or change the settings.

"have a private number but it doesnt seem to stop them."

Gotta laugh at you paranoid silent line types with calling number display.
As soon as you see a number you don't recognize you go into panic mode. 0198339100 is the number of the machine that delivers the SMS. The callers number is read out after the SMS message is read out. Maybe you should listen to the message rather than panicking that you have been called by an unknown number, LOL

    24 calls in 24 hours.
Phone has identified it as 'Advertising'.
Call rings once and then hangs up. No messages left.
    Just irritating!!!

message saying i have a text message which cannot be translated from 04220045809

Alan from Telstra replies to bonnie
    Bonnie,
Where the words "cannot be translated" are used instead of reading out the message, this is because the SMS doesn't contain any text that can be read out. Some of the reasons may be:
The SMS does not contain any characters
The SMS is made up of non English alphabet - Greek, Chinese etc

    hope this helps

Keep getting calls, early hours of the morning and early evening. I've blocked the number, but it still gives one ring before automatically hanging up.

    Sue,
I assume you are in Australia as this number is used for different purposes around the world. One burst of ring usually means there is an SMS capable device on the line and either the memory is full or there is two SMS capable devices on the line both responding to the incoming SMS. You may need to change the setting on one of the SMS devices.

There is a section in this about dealing with single burst of ring:

    Hope this helps

    Just a guy :P
Voice message never, ever, ever plays on my landline on loudspeaker... Something's up.   The voice was playing at the same time as my message bank "I'm not home right now" message.   But the last sentence was " Behave yourself tonight"  I almost shat myself, I have a feeling that it could be text converted to voice, due to the fact that the voice sounded like the pre recorded lady who tells you when "The person you have called is unavailable".  Any ideas?
