'I have now discovered that its a scam and my provider T Mobile is not interested. How are these people allowed to get away with it and will it happen again'

    Michael,
these 'people' have been 'getting away with it' for years.  The reason they get away with it is because the people who are responsible for consumer protection and policing the industry
    http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/output/Check-a-number-results.aspx
are sponsored (paid) by the 'industry'('people') who are 'getting away with it'.
It's called self regulation, and yes it can happen to all of you again now they have your phone number and they now know it is billable.  They may not scam you again but the 'customer' data base your numbers are now on is quite valuable if they decide to sell it to the next gang of crooks.

    Tracey,
you do realise it's your phone company that is debiting your account and not Ericsson IPX AB or 'Next Card ltd'(that almost certainly does not exist as a legitimate company).

Nextcard (aka Next Card) is in fact Soletto Group SA aka Netlink Network Corp

Also you all realise your phone companies when they debit your account keep on average 50% of the revenue before passing the rest on (and 100% of the blame) to be shared between Ericsson and Soletto.

There is a lot of anger on this blog, which is understandable in the circumstances. We all need to treat this as if it were an error on the till receipt at the supermarket.

What are they charging us for? A piece of software downloaded involving SMS messages backwards and forwards.

I download software when I need it, but I try to find freeware. I don't remember sending 'CD' but this is October the company are talking about. Some of you are asking the right questions - my mobile company are looking into my SMS traffic at the time I ought to have received and used this mysterious code! I hope they can prove I didn't send 'CD' - as I say, I can't imagine why I'd get this when it is free someplace else.

When I have got info from network I plan to pass on their evidence to the regulator.

Calm down and get the information to back up your memories. The regulator can't ignore the networks telling them the data's mixed up. So ensure the network gets the info for you and pass it on.

I definitely plan to get a refund from this - SMS or no SMS, why should I pay for something 4 months late because of a technical error. It's very bad business and very confusing.

I have had the same text mesage from 60440 on the 29 of jan 2010 telling me that i have been charged £4.I did not purchased anything from the nextcard. I can immagine how much money they have stollen from people. I have sent reply text STOP( TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE).They dont have any shame £4 it is a lot of money. I had another scam who charged me 0.12 at least. I advise to call regulator on 0800500212. They are investigating and are going to send me letter about result. I hope we will all get the refund.

Charge is automatic. Orange totally useless. Told me to phone next (had already done that! & they don't have my mobile number). Orange have a message that they are NOT to refund the £4 but to tell you to phone the number in the text & it must be something you purchased online or or while browsing a 3rd party NEXT site that charges.
Basically I have lost £4 just for opening a text message and won't see it again.
As for some messages I have seen on other websites - we are not gullible or stupid & I like many others did not reply to this text. We are just unfortunate victims of someone elses greed.

This happened to me. 'Phoned O2 Customer Services via my mobile (at a cost of 25p!) - waste of time!
Using landline 'phoned 0870-567-8678 which is O2 Customer Services and eventually spoke to a human being, a VERY NICE LADY.  Talked through the problem and she eventually agreed to refund the £4. Suggest you do the same, SPEAK VERY NICELY TO HER - YOU MUST PERSIST BUT KEEP CALM AND REMAIN COURTEOUS!!
Also, and most importantly ask her to change the setting of your mobile so that it bars texts from "PREMIUM NUMBERS"  such as 60440.
Finally my advice is NOT TO ENTER YOUR MOBILE NUMBER ONTO ANY COMPARISON SITES!!!!!!!

Got same message as other guys phoned virgin they gave me company name ericsson ltd and phone number 01483305530 i phoned and spoke to a micheal he told me nextcard had charged me for sending a text to them comfirming a subscription of some sort. Never contacted nextcard not even when i got text,
believing it to be a scam. The only thing to come out of the phone call was that it is a one off payment and he gave the e-mail address that gave me this page so hopefully first and last £4.00.

We have just been charged $9.00 for this.  Rang the number and was told that customer service would send me a copy of the software we supposedly downloaded. Of course that was unreadable.   Rang Telstra (Australia) who thought we must be making the whole story up.  As usual Telstra is just rubbish.  Does this scam involve them just realising the mobile number is valid and then falsifying a charge and passing it on to our telecomunication provider.

The same thing has happened to me but they have taken £8 and when i have checked my itimesied bill and it shows that they have taken four payments of £2 at exactly 12:03!! i dont undersdtand how this is even possible. when i rang orange (which for some reason cost me £4) to enquire they said that they can not deal with this and that i have to call 01483305530. The answering machine of this company sounds odd something about health care?!!! why would subscribe to healthcare im 17 years old!!! I dont even want to phone the company to find out why they have charged me as they will most likely charge me for the call itself!! but i am worried that they are going to keep taking money from me!! HELP who are they? what do they want? why are they taking my money? and what can i do to stop it?
