Maybe we should be contacting ITV & BBC networks and make them aware of the problems or maybe local news desks. To these companies its big business. The company ericson ipx will be less nonchalant about it, if the media who use it puts them into question. Their competitions may have been hacked and entering competitions run by them may not be safe.

I received this text around 15mins ago - obviously thought the same as the rest of you guys - thinking about it though I think it has something to do with when I tried to upgrade my daughters MSN Messenger online - I remember texting something to somewhere and that it was around £4 - think maybe that is it - but will check my bill to see if it previously came out - if it did then it's nothing to do with that - the upgrade however did not work anyway so it was a complete waste of time and money!!!!

I had exactly the same thing, and was immediately suspicious as that phone is for work, so I NEVER download anything or text premium numbers on it. I called Vodaphone and after initially being told to text STOP back, was then told it was something they were becoming aware of and that I'd get £4 credited back to me. Please, everyone who gets this message, call your service provider, even on PAYG.

Robbing con artists have done me today too, why don't they get off their backsides and get a job instead of helping themselves to other peoples money?

02 rubbish - rubbish - rubbish!!!   all cancel your contracts with O2 - refused to block any numbers to my phone - said they can't thee only thing they can do is change my number!!!

She wouldn't even put me through to her manager as I couldn'tn remember a password I never use and wouldn't give me a clue!! could remember everything else about me though!!  Rubbish - I'm off to join tesco mobile now!

On the upside my allowance says I have not been charged anything since my last bill and I have text stop to the number.... no help at all but I feel better after my rant!

This message is a charged Premium SMS message, hence the use of a 5 digit shortcode. It looks to be a one off payment rather than a recurring charge. Calling the helpline number will have no impact on whether you get charged or not, the charge is levied at point of delivery of the PSMS message to the phone.

If you wish to follow this up you could try contacting the regulator - premium rate stuff is dealt with by Phone PayPlus - www.phonepayplus.org.uk is their website.

If you haven't downloaded anything, I'd recommend ringing the helpline and asking for a refund. Any refusal, report the company to the regulator. Even if you have downloaded something, if you thought it was free you can do the same.

Just received a text message from 60440, saying "due to technical problems your purchase of 11/2009 has not been charged. Yo are now being billed 4GBP Apologies for the delay. Help? 02032863990 Nextcard Ltd

I did not buy anything! this message does not tell me what the charge is in relation to, so some bunch of thieving losers are ripping me off 4 quid through my phone bill. I need this to be stopped at once!
