Called me yesterday was Barnados charity. I said I was busy and that I wasn't interested, as I have no money. Polite lady thanked me and said would not bother me again.

Just had another call from them today and I haven't answered. Grrr.

I'm not a big charity donator because, frankly, I can't afford it.
However I did donate a fiver to the Robbie Williams Soccer Aid charity match last sunday and it seems too much of a coincidence to start getting spam calls from a call centre connected to charities just a few days later.
I find it extremely rude to have now been assumed a "soft target" for cold calls for charity and have leaned my lesson about donating by text in future.
Nice one Unicef/Soccer Aid/ITV. Utter fail.

I made a regular donation for 12 months to the National Deaf Childrens Society but could not afford to continue the payments..As I understand it, calls from this number are from an organization acting on behalf of several charities, alway asking for you to "restart" an agreement or to "top up" an existing one...Because they never take NO for an answer I don't answer my mobile when their number pops up. This continued harassment will also make me think twice before I donate to a charity in the future...I probably won't.

This is a company that doesn't take no for an answer. The only way they will stop is if the 'charities ' concerned start being adversely effected.
With the current clamour for social media alot of compnies now have facebook and twitter accounts.
Why not use these public domains to highlight this harassment (in a nice way) on their facebook and twitter pages. They will monitor these and a sudden rush of adverse comments advocating withdrawing donations should wake them up.
Something in the press might also do the trick.
I think it will only stop if coming from the top.

I just has a follow up call from this number. Seemed legit, they were collecting for UNICEF and rang me because I had donated £5 to Soccer Aid. They were open about this. The lad on the phone seemed pleasant enough, but he talked at 100mph and went on and on about the good work UNICEF does etc etc. In the end I agreed to make a regular contribution.

Slight alarm bells rang when right at the end of the call he mentioned the running costs (I think he said £58k) and that they expected to raise £178. Up until then I had assumed it was UNICEF calling and all the money would be going to the charity.

So here I am after googling the number, and feeling slightly conned. I don't think I will be returning the standing order when it arrives.

I've just got a phone call from this number. It was exactly like Amm described it: I could hear 'bits of sentences'. I put up with the whole conversation but the sound was fading at times so I could understand 80% of what the caller was saying. He claimed to be Jamael Westman and to be calling for the Children's Society. What he was saying was, essentially, designed to raise awareness about the problems faced by the children that charity helps. But he wanted me to give him my sort code and bank account number over the phone. I refused point blank. I never give out that sort of information over the phone. I am used to donating to charities and what I really did not understand is why could not they just send a letter so that it is clear what they want the money for. Then you can set up a direct debit order. I refused to donate that way. I might well go to the Children's Society and consider a donation but not like that, giving my bank account details over the phone.

Just had exactly the same experience Phil, I'd also donated through Soccer Aid. The company name Listen was bundled in at the end of the call amongst the figures of £50+k (running costs) for Listen and £180+k for UNICEF. When I pulled the caller up and asked why she had just squeezed the agency name in at the end, she said that she was upfront when she said she was "calling on behalf of UNICEF", I said that upfront would be to say she was "calling from Listen on behalf of UNICEF" at this point she became very defensive saying that she "only made the phone calls". While probably within the legal boundaries, the script is engineered to make you think your speaking to someone at UNICEF.

Listen handle funding campaigns for charities: "upgrade re-activation and acquisition campaigns" i.e. to encourage people to  start donating, increase donations or reinstate donations after cancelling. They are provided contact details following one-off donations, in my case UNICEF following the Soccer Aid campaign, and aim to get people to commit to regular payment to the charity by direct debit.

Called my husband saying that they were ringing on behalf of Bernados. He was a bit confused to begin with because we are X directory, they knew his name and seemed to know he had donated previously (though if you ask 100 people 99% probably have in the past - so an easy guess). They were trying to  keep him on the phone (wonder if we were paying for the phone time in some way - like a reverse call). He started to 'smell a rat'. They tried to get his sort code and bank account details. BEWARE.

    Lesson Learned
I donated money to Unicef/Soccer Aid the other week and now i am being pestered by a telemarketing company (02034760625) on there behalf.. Lesson learned as i will never donate in this manner again which will mean that deserving charities will not receive any further donations from myself in the future. I hope this unnecessary pestering is really worth it Unicef..!!
