I missed a call from this number. I phoned it back and it was an automated message telling me that the charity ''Missing" had called me. They have kept calling me since but I am not answering, as like others here have stated, I give what I can to charities and do not wish to be pestered and guilt tripped at home. I assume they got my number from the NSPCC, who I regularly donate to.

Have just realised, I recently made a text donation to the UNICEF Syria appeal via text and I reckon that's the more likely place they got my number from. Don't want to blame the NSPCC if it's not their fault!

Rather than being a call from a specific charity, it will probably be from one of the companies which call on behalf of several charities either to get people to donate or to get them to increase a current donation.  As the charities use part of our donations to pay these companies, I prefer to donate direct.

I too Texted 70007 to the Syrian children blanket appeal that appeared on Ch4 recently. Since then 02076197597 keeps calling. It is an invasion of my goodwill. If UNICEF has any sense it will do something about this. I have warned others to avoid giving in this way after this awful experience.

This numbers rang me a few times and never answers when I pick up finally I have had them answer when I answered the call today its St. John's asking for money! Very rude and pushy persistence would t tell me where they got my number from or remove it!

I get phone calls about every day from charities incl from this number. I can't take it anymore. My boyfriend got so many on his landline (although these were not only from charities, but from banks offering credit cards and God knows what). In the end he had to change his number and I'm close to doing the same. Is this a specifically British problem, since I've lived in both Sweden, France and Spain and never had this problem there?

I sent a text to a similar number to donate 5£ to save an African child from malaria. They don't let me forget about it!! If I only knew! Never texting any donations again. They can email me or send me info in the post if they want, but calling me like this is close to harassment!

Probably my story would be close to others' one. The caller is Christian Aid whom I donated £3 from my mobile phone in December. Now they want me to donate £3 every month. I said no politely but they call me again and again. I often don't pick up but they persist. I spoke to the guy again and sked to stop calling me. They didn't... I just igonor or pick up and leave it lay on the table for another 15-20 secs after what they hang up.

I responded to a request for donations in a television advert, Unicef were asking for £3 donations by text from people to help with their charity request for kids in Syria. Seemed reasonable to me.
Their texted reply said, rather ominously, "Thank you for donating £3 to Unicef's Syria Appeal. We'd like to contact you to tell you more about our work. For terms visit www.unicef.org.uk/syriainfo"  

We had similar problems with the Red Cross a few years ago. My wife bought a book for a library and the lady who provided it insisted she didn't want paying for it so would we please send a donation to Red Cross instead, we were immediately bombarded with further requests for more money, endlessly stressing their need.
It'a a pity charities do this , I can understand why they do it but it does have a habit of the causing opposite effect and just puts people off. All of us have our favourite charities, and if we can we help. But you can't give to all of them.      

I just received a call from the above number but it rang off before I got to it. I hope they don't ring again.

We've all had endless interruptions in our lives from phoney messages and calls on our telephones these days: some of them are genuine bust most are charlatans and thieves, twisted people. We'e getting sick of it.

Unfortunately, these calls do not come from the charities themselves, but from companies which work on behalf of several charities.  A proportion of our donations goes to paying them.  They will keep calling until they get an answer and when they do they will push very hard  for a regular donation or, if you already donate, an increase.  We had a call on behalf of the Red Cross and the guy would not listen to the fact that, as pensioners, we could not afford any more.  He was on the 'phone for 10 minutes trying to browbeat us into doubling our donation.  Eventually I told him that we would not do this and, if he called us again, we would cancel our existing donation.  This worked.  Incidentally, this evening I saw a charity ad on TV asking for £3.00 per month.  In small writing at the bottom it said "We receive £2.?? of every donation".  Makes you think doesn't it?  We donate direct to the charities we support.

Childrens society call me each day from this number.  I keep telling them i am at work and cant talk so they keep ringing every eve.  I guess its a call centre that charities use to get donations

It's all very well you saying cheer up, there are God knows so many of these anonymous calls around these days, very often without any indication who they are from, and undisplayed numbers, people are getting a bit nervous about answering the phone. This is not right, this is NOT GOOD. Elderly people I know are getting quite worried, and I wish BT and the other authorities should be able to do something about this intrusion in people's lives. Imagine walking down the High Street and getting someone rattling a tin under your nose every five yards, then finding they have followed you home !!   It ain't good enough.

BT do seem to have taken some action.  Apparently they have had 50,000 complaints about these types of call.  They have brought out a 'phone, the BT6500, which can block International, Withheld and "Unavailable" calls, plus 10 individual numbers.  I got one earlier this week and have had four days of silence!  The 'phone does not even ring and when I checked earlier today it had stopped six calls.  The only thing I was worried about is that we have a son in Australia and our Doctor's surgery uses a "Withheld" number.  However, the 'phone has a "VIP list" function and BT say that numbers which you put in there override the block.  We shall see.

I have had same phone call asking for £3 a month donation all i have to do is wait for them send me a txt and reply back by typing  " YES " and they will register me on there list. I didnt reply as i wasnt sure it was legal

I gave a £3 donation to the UNICEF Syria blanket appeal by texting a number on an advert '70007' last week.  Since then I have received three or four nuisance calls a day, which until a few minutes ago, I had been ignoring.  The lady wanted to discuss other ways I could donate, and give me an update on the situation.  

When you text 'BLANKET', to 70007, there is nowhere you can ask not to be contacted further.  Sadly, the nuisance calls would make me think twice next time I am moved enough by an advert to make a donation.

I've started to get calls at all hours of the day (not night so far) from this number. Others here think it is a charity but I'm not convinced (I've never answered the calls so don't know for sure but I can't believe this is the normal modus operanda of the large charities on behalf of whom others on this thread say they purport to be calling).

As has been stated many times on here, this is not an individual charity.  It is a company which works on behalf of several different charities and which is paid  out of our donations.  If you do not answer the calls, they will keep 'phoning as that is what they do.  No only do they 'phone people who have made a one off donation, to try and persuade them to donate regularly, they 'phone people who do donate regularly to get them to increase their donation.  About 90% of charities use this method of raising funds and, far from what you think, it is normal.  There was a TV advert the other evening for some charity or other, asking for £3.00.  In small writing at the bottom of the screen it said "(the charity) receives £2.?? of every donation.  Makes you think, doesn't it.

This is the number for the fundraising organization Listen. I am currently a fundraiser there.

Most charities use telephone fundraisers as it is the most effective way of securing support for a charity. Around 10% of the people we call pledge a longterm gift to the charity, however when charities send out things through the post, a mere 1% of people respond.
Charities do not pay companies like Listen a set fee, and the fee dwarfs in comparison to what we raise for the charity. To give you an example, we are currently fundraising for WaterAid. Listen will be paid APPROXIMATELY 153,000 based on HOW MANY people we speak to, but we expect to raise 1,260,000 for WaterAid. Listen fundraisers will actually tell you this at some point in the call. We are obliged to be transparent. Butility anyway, as you can see financially it's a relatively small investment for the charity with a large return and on average people who sign up to a direct debit carry on giving for at least 4 years.

As for the annoying calls, and persistently asking you for money, fundraisers are FORCED to ask 3 times for a regular donation, each time lowering the amount or changing the frequency. All charities demand we try 3 times to get a donation. It isn't easy. Fundraisers don't like it. They have to struggle to ask 3 times for money, especially when people are getting irate or are pensioners and the fundraisers knows that they can't help, but they have to still ask, otherwise they will lose their job and they are people just like you with families to support, and rent to pay.
It isn't an easy job. A lot of people are rude, angry and take it out on the fundraiser. I once had someone verbally rip into me so badly i got off the phone and cried. By being rude to a fundriaser who is just doing his or her job, you actually COST the charity money yourselves because after having a horrible person on the phone it's pretty hard to not let it bother you, it can affect performance and make it harder for us to get donations, our wages are still paid to us but if we didn't secure  monthly gifts because we were too miserable, then it's the charity who lose out.

If you don't want to speak to us, please just politely tell us that you do not wish to be called again and then we won't.

Fundraising is a difficult job, and we don't get paid much, Listen pay just 6.80-7.50 per hour and we get no commission, but despite that it's rewarding when we get donations and know we are raising money for a great cause.
Please don't be rude to us. We're sorry we disturb you, but we do it for a good reason. We do it because charities NEED us to. People who rely on those charities NEED us to. Please bear that in mind next time you want to yell at us because we disturbed you during your lunch (as if we could know that) or interrupt you again in the middle of football (god forbid). Oh, and don't be mad at us. At least we are working. Or would you all prefer it if we stopped working as fundraisers and went on benefits at the expense of the taxpayer instead?
