- Caz replies to Kacitelephoned me , thanking me for the donation I gave on my phone , want me to donate some more ... there OK I think just charity raising ,no need to be rude or anything , I gave to the blanket appeal ..
- Nan replies to Proud to be a fundraiser| 2 repliesI found your post very enlightening. You say that the Charities FORCE you to ring three times? That being the case then the Charities deserve to lose donations. The experience of having a man 'phone on behalf of the Red Cross and keeping my husband on the line for 15 minutes trying to force us to increase our donation was unpleasant to say the least. Despite being told that, as pensioners, we were giving as much as we could he continued to harass my husband, who was getting more and more upset. He is a kind man who would give as much money as he could, if we could afford it. Eventually, I took over the call and told the man that if he ever rang again, we would cancel our existing donation. I realise that you are only doing your job, but it is understandable that people will get annoyed when they are continually harassed like this.
- Proud to be a fundraiser replies to Nan| 1 replyYes, i mean i can understand when people get upset, we are very persistent! But yes, it is the charities that make us ask 3 times for money, but there is a psychology behind it. The reason we ask 3 times is because 3 is a 'magic number' so to speak. An American study by psychologists found that if you want people to do something for you, you have to explain and ask them 3 times before they are likely to agree. I Kid you not! That is actually why we ask 3 times!
I have to say though, if you do get calls from fundraisers, be happy it's a Listen fundraiser. We recently won an award for our work, not just because of the amount of money we raise for charities (one of our fundraisers has raised 1,000,000 alone!) But also because we are very good at the legal stuff that all fundraising organizations must follow. When you get a call from us, you'll find it will be very thorough! We abide by the laws in this country specifically aimed at the fundraising sector and that is good not just for us, but for the charity and you as a supporter.
Im sure your husband is a very nice man, he gives to charity after all! And i am sorry he felt pestered by us, but to be honest I can almost guarantee that the poor fundraiser he spoke to was probably just as desperate to end the call as him! Asking 3 times is something all fundraisers loathe! - Nan replies to Proud to be a fundraiserWell, if the Americans thought that one up, it's bound to be wrong. Their pushy salespeople are appalling. They obviously don't realise that what works in the USA doesn't work here. In the UK we tend to dig our heels in when people get pushy. It's worth mentioning that we donate to four charities and only the Red Cross has ever used a company to harass us.
- Blue SonnetI responded to a text message appeal for Mosquito nets by Christian Aid in 2011/2 and was literally bombarded with calls from this number (2, 3 or 4 a week) - I think it may have been early 2012 - on every single occasion I asked to be removed from their list, was told this would happen within 3 working days, and without fail I would continue to be contacted for the next week or two! I left three requests to be taken off their list on the opt-out number given and all of a sudden I've just been called again!
I'm supposed to have been removed, so why do they still have my number? I don't use this number for anything unless I can opt out of contact - the only time I didn't was on this appeal - thanks to this and the RSPCA (who also bombarded me with requests for more money when I was already donating and no way to opt out of this) I don't donate using text or direct debits anymore.
If they didn't chase like this and push and push all the time I would donate more, but I really resent being chased - especially in this case where it is against my express wishes and permission... I've had to complain officially to the TPS because they just aren't listening to me and keeping information I've asked several times to be removed!- Caller: Listen
- MistaMuleI donated £3 after seeing a Charty Advert on Freeview Channel 14. Since then I have received 10+ calls , all missed.
- MistaMule| 1 replyI donated £3 after seeing an advert on Freeview 14.
The text I received back gave a web address, www.unicef.org.uk/syriainfo.
On that web-page it said "text NOCALL to 70007" to stop getting called.
I'll wait to see if it worked!- Caller: UNICEF ??
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Phil replies to MistaMuleA call with so much background noise/chatter I couldn't hear a damn thing !
"Hello....who's there ?"
Then the caller asked for "Mr" Carol Thomas something.
"Wrong number....Goodbye."
At least the chap apologized. - kevin2004i have received about a dozen calls from this number in the past week or so. I responded by text to a Unicef campaign a couple of weeks ago. The organisation is Listen.co.uk. (see their website). There is a number on their website that you can call to talk to Tony about fundraising or becoming an employee.
A campaign of ringing Tony as often as possible might piss him off by giving him a taste of his own medicine.
Ring 0207 619 6620 and speak (or not) to Tony
I have been a supporter of a number of Charities over the years but if they use organisations such as this one to raise funds I will no longer support them- Caller: Listen.co.uk
- Call type: Telemarketer
- AllyMac1314In my case this was Plan International calling. I asked them to stop but they just keep ringing, so as I'm with Sky Talk I've now blocked that number.
I'm all for donating to charity, but this is nothing short of harassment.- Caller: Plan International
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- BobI did a txt donation to unicef and then got lots of calls from this number. There was a link in the txt that thanked me, and it says on the website that they will call you, however if you don't want follow up calls txt NOCALL to 70007

- JoolsIt's UNICEF. If you have made a text donation they follow it up with phone calls to update. I asked them to stop calling me!
- Caller: UNICEF
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- JohnSeems from other posts that they act on behalf of charities.
I've had 4 calls from them so far, always at inconvenient times. A couple of times I tried to answer but always seem to hang up at the exact moment i try to pick up!
Bit of a nuisance. - piedThis number has called my mobile x 3 since I made a charity donation towards an appeal for blankets for Syria Unicef by text
- Malcolm, Enfieldthere seem to be many suggested sources for this number. It is probably a commercial fund raising organisation (and there are quite a number of them) who are paid by the charities to do this on their behalf and are far too pushy, which I have no doubt puts people off giving. If everyone ignores them it will soon not be worth the the charities using them, and other ways will be found to raise funds
- Caller: unknown, was out when called
- Jonathan ouseyThis call centre calls me daily on my mobile. Please make them stop it is very annoying!
- Caller: Charity call centre
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Sheila replies to worker| 5 repliesHow DARE you say that people who get fed up listening to the speal that you guys deliver before getting to the punch line ('we want some money') are too mean to give to charity. Your organisation is given our numbers in the first place BECAUSE we gave to charity! I would have quite willingly given more, but the sanctimonious sob story that I had to listen to first made me so cross I didn't. And when I said that I would check out the charity in question online and sign up there, I was told 'but we get paid by (the charity) if we sign you up on the phone'! As if I want the funds I give to charity to go to a cold calling organisation instead of to the people who need the support?! As a matter of principle, I will now NEVER sign up to any cold call from a company such as listen, because I now know that signing up directly on line with the charities I want to support will save them having to pay out!
