I didnt deliberately not answer the phone but they had rung off by the time I got to the phone,  I suspect this is the same with many people.  They may be legit but when I did answer the phone I told the man I would look on Unicef website for more information about Unicef and that I wasnt going to be pressurised on the phone.  He was quite pushy in my opinion and I was very disappointed that after that I had about 11 calls from them.  I dont use my mobile much so it is not always at hand.  Will not donate in this fashion again.

This is nothing more than a charity fundraising organisation called Listen. They are 100% legal, legitimate, polite, transparent and professional. Do you homework properly before you put people off giving money to charity. Your ignorance could actually cost the lives of people around the world, who rely on the crucial funds these hard working organisations raise. Perhaps what frustrates you most is the fact that you know in your heart you could do more for charity and hate the fact that someone will put you on the spot and make you think about how lucky you actually are. If you can't afford to give any money, then just answer the phone and tell them, that way they can take your name off their lists (which you HAVE given them, whether or not you realise or remember doing it), and then they can concentrate their time calling people who do care and raise money for causes that need it. And in case you haven't had the greatest experience of being fundraised, try putting youself in the shoes of these selfless people that face a barrage of abuse from people all day long and see if you could do it.

This is the truth as I used to work for them, they are based in Holloway Road and have raised over £100 million for charities like WWF, Save the Children, Unicef, Cancer Research UK and many more in the last 4 years alone.

I see you're proud of your comment you don't give your name. What you don't realise Mr/Mrs Angry is that even if you're on TPS you take yourself off of it when you respond to any kind of thing with your phone. Besides that who would want to buy the details of an angry mug like yourself.

They called her twice a day, and still calling,  only gave 3 rings before it timesout/hang up.
She won't pick up as its not a number that she recognise.

Text in and sure enough got a phone call.

Turned out to be surprisingly nice - asked the man to not bother with the sob stories and he apologised and made it clear how it's regular funding the charity is after blah blah blah wanted 8 quid a month, said no. Told him I'd sign up for £3 a month and he was very thankful and explained how much of a huge difference it would make (again, stressing regularity)

This isn't a non-profit organisation as people are putting down - they even tell you. However it's cheaper for a charity to outsource fundraising rather than employ a host of people (I'm assuming as they wouldn't do it otherwise).

Also, why don't people answer unknown numbers? Don't you want to know who it is, so you can sort it out?

A real pain ringing and ringing. Got the new by phone that lets you block numbers but unfortunalty it only does 10 so its about jiggling numbers

Reckon it was st johns ambulance as i texted for brain tumour pack and they say someone will ring you for your address to post it. No doubt they will try to get me to donate after offering a freebie!

Charity or not, they are a nuisance caller when it occurs more than once a day over a two week period. Unfortunately I can't call bar on my phone.

If you already subscribe to the charity they are representing, tell them that if they 'phone again you will cancel your donation.   If you don't already subscribe, tell them you are going to 'phone the charities, having had an awful man call on behalf of the Red Cross.  He harassed us for 20 minutes to increase our donation despite being told that, as pensioners, we couldn't afford any more.  He only stopped when I told him I would cancel mu donation.

Sorry, I made a right mess of that.  Fingers on wrong hand syndrome.  If you already subscribe to the charity they are calling about, tell them that if they call again you will cancel your current donation.  If you don't already subscribe tell them you will make an official complaint to that charity.  We were harassed for 20 minutes by a man representing the Red Cross, who wanted us to increase our donation.  He kept on and on despite being told that, as pensioners, we could not afford any more money.  He only stopped when told we would cancel our current donation.  I sometimes thin k these people do more harm than good to the charities.

so are you saying that if you answer the phone not knowing who it is, TPS take you off their list?  Seems a bit unfair.   Most of the people on this forum have kindly donated to charities, and those people are caring people who probably support other charities as well, my husband and I support Oxfam and Water Aid, and made donations to Comic Relief.   I responded to a Unicef TV advert and was not expecting to be harassed for days with silent calls... I rarely use my mobile and by the time I got to it and answered, it just registered lots of missed calls.  I did initially answer the phone to a man and told him I would check Unicef website if I wanted to know more.  Still plagued by missed calls though.  Not only that but you get accosted in the street and even when sitting minding your own business in your own home by chuggers at the door.  Let's not forget that the people making the calls probably get a good commission or are you saying that they do it out of the kindness of their hearts?  These people are giving charities a bad name and putting otherwise generous people off.  Wont be responding by text to any other charities

"John Delaney" is making it up as he goes along.  You do not take yourself off the TPS register by answering your 'phone.  That is too idiotic for words.  Even charities are supposed to "scrub" their calling lists to exclude TPS registered numbers and calls from them can be reported to TPS like any other.  I know what you mean by your Unicef comment.  I wanted to make a donation to the Tsunami appeal a few years ago and could not do so anonymously, they wanted my details, including 'phone number.  I, too, got the barrage of calls and eventually stopped them by telling them I would never donate to Unicef again. Once you have told a caller not to contact you again and to remove your details from their data base they must do it.  If they continue to call you report them first to TPS, if you are registered, and then to the Information Commissioner's Office.  As you say, most of the people on this forum already donate and do not need this harassment.  We donate to four charities of our choice, but we do it directly and make sure we have opted out of 'phone calls on the charities website.

I've checked TPS and cannot find anything confirming that Charities should check their records.       It has been my understanding till now that as TPS is funded by the Sales & Marketing Industry only calls in regard to Sales or Marketing fall within their interest.     Many nuisance elements such as Market Research and foreign calls are excluded, with Debt Collectors and other nuisances covered by legislation.  Till now I believed that Charities were not TPS relevant when seeking funds.         Usually agree with all of your helpful remarks on this site and would appreciate anything you can add to support your earlier note.
