Its a charity call centre, they must sub contract to multiple individual charities. I stupidly gave my details to one of those people in the town centre RE: Girls in africa not being eligible to go to school.

I answered once and told them I was at work, have had 3 calls a day on average ever since! very persistant!

I had a few missed call from this caller but decided to answer their call the last call they called me. It was from Plan Internation. I used to sponsor a child in Africa a few years back but had to stop because money became a bit tight. The object of the phone call is to try and get you to sponsor a child or send a gift of 5 pounds a month. The minimum amout you can sponsor a child for is £ 15.00

This is the number given by an organisation called Listen, who are paid by charities to call people and ask for regular donations.  They don't take any proportion of the money that you give, although callers are paid commission, but that's a little irrelevant.  So if you do pledge any money, in theory it all goes to the charity which they say it will.

I became increasing frustrated under the belief that I had been duped by a 'fundraiser' into giving £5 a month to St Johns and that this Listen organisation would be taking a slice of that.  My frustration escalated when the only numbers I could find lead straight to a machine promising to put someone in touch with me.  All of these plus my original doubts when asked for my credit card details had me panicking for a bit that I had been scammed...

Eventually however, I found a number which is not on their main website, supposedly linking through to the director of the organisation.  On calling this number, I reached a human being straight away, who responded to my explanation with a few questions to determine who I am and by explaining that they do not take a slice of the money pledged.

If you have any issues with Listen or with this number, this may well be the contact number you need:

    0207 619 6620

    Good luck!

'Hi this is a quick call from UNICEF, we wanted to ask you about the donation you made to the Pakistan earthquake appeal'

    Blah blah blah....

I accepted that they could send me a text message at no cost to me detailing a new donation scheme through phone bills. As soon as I said yes it was sent, I was then told: 'just want to inform you that I'm working for 'LISTENUK.ORG' ON BEHALF OF UNICEF...

What?!?!?!? You said you were UNICEF?!

I will be watching my phone bills like a hawk for a few months. Slimy rats. Sent a complaint to UNICEF about this too.

    Belongs to www.listenuk.org
They operate a cold call centre to raise money for charity based clients.
It is a money making venture pure and simple despite their high principles.
Four times in as many weeks they have called me.

I received a call from this number and it was a fantastic call on behalf of St John Ambulance.

They are a call centre working for multiple charities but do an important job, all the more so given current government cut backs that are going to have a devastating impact on the charity sector. I really feel everyone needs to lighten up here and let good people do their job.

If you don't want the call I agree with a comment above, just be polite and say that you do not want to be contacted again.

But I have found on nearly every occasion, when you say 'can' you take my number and name off your mailing list' they hang up before you can say the whole sentence, therefore you have not told them and they can ring you back 'often'

I went into Coventry City Centre a few weeks ago with some friends to do some shopping and as we were walking we were stopped by this gentleman who was trying to give us some information of some sort. All of my friends continued to walk off and somehow I got left behind and the gentleman found his way over to me. I really didn't want to listen to him but didn't want to be rude so I entertained him and he was a representative of some charity that sponsors children. I didn't give him my real name but was foolish enough that I gave him my real mobile number. The first time I noticed the call was last week and I didn't answer it as I never answer calls from numbers I don't recognise. I thought that would be the end of it but boy was I wrong. The calls continue for at least 3-4 times a day and as I am typing this message, a call is coming through right now. I decided to google "Coventry phone number 02076197597" just to see if anything would show up. I LOL when I realised I am not the only one being hounded by this number. You'd think they'd get the hint that people are not answering their calls but they are very persistent. I might just answer the next time and really tell them off.

Oh shut up. If anyone here wants to donate to a charity the ONLY way they should do it is through the charity itself, not some two-bit, gutless operation like LISTEN UK, who scalp off the charitable donations to line their own pockets. And don't even get me started on their scripted tactics to confuse you into thinking everything will go to the charity.

You think I'm talking crap? No. When I was at uni a couple of years ago, I went for an interview for a 'marketing' job. Turned out it was door-to-door RSPCA work collecting credit card numbers for regular donations. Only it wasn't going to the RSPCA, it was all going to this 'marketing' companies' accounts, who then took their cut, and passed the rest to the RSPCA, who then had to pay the 'marketing' company a commission! Un-[***]-believable! I wish I could remember the name of this company, all I can remember is that they're based in a dingy basement office near old street tube..

So to reiterate, deal direct with the charity, not the [***] making money off the charity. If you get any calls about charitable donations, ask them who they are. Then think, would you rather give your card details to some random idiots taking 25% of your donation to pay for their next night out, or to the actual charity who are going to use your donation to help the people you want to help?

    Ok rant over. Thanks.

Ps I'm actually Wills, I'm just pretending to be Kate...Lols! She's gonna be mad! Ahh she's coming hide!!! :0

Its fairly obvious from the number of different charities listed on other posts that this is some kind of scam - we do not donate to any charity and we are on the telephone preference system and have been for 12 years. This caller hangs up when we answer.

As with anything use basic security : Do Not Give Out Your Bank Details or Credit Card Details to any one cold calling you over the phone - you do not know who they are - you only have their word for it.

Got a call from these and it was to donate monthly to Autism Charity. 1st offer they wanted was £12 a month...Declined. 2nd offer £8 a month....Declined. 3rd offer £0.75 a week....Declined. Very persistent phone call. I felt unnerved because there was cheering in the background. Something you don't expect from a Charity.  BEWARE!!!!
