- nearly duped| 1 reply- Had a call from Online PC Masters about my computer being infected by a Trojan virus. I said how did you get my details for which he replied they got my details from BT which forwarded it to them . He asked me to switch my computer on so he could show me the problem
Anyway I logged on and did as instructed where he got me to run msconfig and check if there were any stopped services. And of course there were and he continued to tell me that the Trojan virus had stopped these services.
In the end he told me to login to IE and go to Team Viewer website to download some software so I can download a software to give him access to the my computer so he could help me fix these issues.

I expect them to call back tomorrow and I will be telling them that I know it is a scam and that I will not be speaking with them again. - liz replies to Luton Trading StandardsJust had scam call from Indian accented caller, saying their names are Stacey Middleton and Peter Morris. Said they wre phoning form Bedfordshire, there was a delay on the line and their English was poor. I suggested I could see flying pigs over Cheshire and they hung up. They wanted access to my computer saying they worked for PC Masters Luton Beds, subcontracting for windows, and my computer had sent multiple error messages.
I hope you can stop them.
Liz - KatyOMG - I'm panicing now. I've just had a call, also from a man with a strong Indian accent. At first I thought he was from BT (my ISP), but then said he was from Online PC Masters, even showed me their website and that they offer technical support to Windows customers. I'm so annoyed that I allowed him remote access!!!!!! I could kick myself. Not long after that I could tell he was dodgy as he was very pesistent in showing me all my 'error' files that my McAfee virus protection couldn't find but his scan using PC Optimizer Pro could. He proceeded to tell me that I needed to pay £79.95 for this software that will protect me for life, blah blah blah. Thank god I'd wised up by that stage and didn't pay. He is ringing back tomorrow as I pretended I wasn't going to pay there and then and that I wanted to talk it over with my family first.
I'm really worried that I allowed him remote access. I need help from a computer whizz..... will this have done something to my computer??? Is it likely he's now planted a virus on my computer???? HELP!!!! - Oscar Charlesiv had "the" call from them today,
luckily though im quite the techy and it seemed funny to me that for pc "masters" who had amazingly found a "trojan" on my pc they could not tell me:
- Which of my 6 computers they were reffering
- How they had got my number
- or what on earth they meant by critical
When i told the lovely man that actually i was running linux not windows as he had proclaimed.. he hang up :)
so yes very much a scam- Caller: Online Pc-Masters

- Oscar Charlesiv just had a talk with this company on the phone,
their argument was that its not them its a scam company, and that no other number is allowed to call from their landline so double check the numbers from the scam and the call i jsut had...
i have and the numbers are identical. you can make up your own minds- Caller: Online pc-Masters

- KatyPlease can someone tell if / what they may have done to my computer on allowing them remote access????? I'm really worried!!!!
- ireneThey are still doing the same thing and I was caught out today with the same story and am now having to sort out the mess. He sounded so convincing.
- Kate E replies to Luton Trading StandardsHad a call from an international number, dont normally pick them up but was expecting a call from overseas. Lady with asian accent said my computer was experiencing problems. I asked for name and number and said I would check them out on the net. PC Masters number 0208 544 1602. She had trouble reading the numbers so not sure the number is completley correct.
Will also email trading standards. Cheers. - AndrewGot a call from someone claiming to be Ryan from Microsoft. He said he had detected a Trojan virus which was ruining my computer and asked me to pay £79.40 to fix the problem. I asked for his number and said I may ring back later. Not sure if he is genuine or not. What should I do?
- Paul TurnbullThis company called my wife and stated they were from Microsoft support and that there were problems on her PC. Asked her to type in the web site www.ammyy.com to take over the screen and diagnose the problem. Gave the name Kevin John. Needed the admin password and asked for my mobile number as my wife didnt know the password. Wife rang me and I got her to switch off and that is was a scam. Confirmed this by going to this site.
Thanks- Caller: www.ammyy.com

- KatrinaHad an Asian/Indian called "Nick" call me. My Dad answered (Has no idea of computers) I do thankfully, I asked him to hand me the phone. This bloke said that a PC with XP sent the problem (We have 2 that run on that system) I asked which one (As surely in the error report it would say) and he just persisted. He said it was a Trojan Horse from China that had affected 65,000 computers in the UK. I asked for a number and his company he told me after I asked 3 times!! And then I told him I wasn't convinced. He then stopped talking after I asked "If I looked up your company would I find it"?

- Ken replies to Luton Trading StandardsHad a phone call at lunchtime from someone with an Indian/asian accent supposedly from PC Masters of Luton with the usual scam of problems on my PC asking me to switch it on, Obviously a scam he was reluctant to answer any of my questions merely sticking to his script. Threatened him with the Police & Trading Standards and he rang off.
Have read the 4 pages of comments on this scam - What is Luton trading Standards doing about this? - Is the PC Masters company quoted in the threads connected or are these people merely using its name? - If they are what are Luton Police doing about it? Seems to be plenty of ammo for them to arrest people for judging by the posted messages. - JohnGot a cal from Ryan @ this number. He left the number to call back with my wife. Realised it was a scam. Called them back and asked for Ryan. When I asked where they were based they hung up. Tried to call back but no answer

- Helen replies to Luton Trading Standardshave just received a call from 02081445602, Jack tells me he is from Microsoft and that a problem has been reported on my computer. The worrying bit is that we have a computer that is having problems this morning. When I said I wasn't happy doing anything via the phone he was very reassuring, that Microsoft had identified a problem and that the machine was infected and it was a genuine call from Microsoft's support team. I asked where he was phoning from - Luton - and for the phone no. and I would call him back. Guess what, I haven't. This call was at 13.00 hours.

received cold call from PC Masters.
say my machine is infected with Trojan virus.
How can they possible know without access. - SPC Masters have called mt twice in the last 2 days, during the 1st call I told them that I had wiped my hard drive and sold my laptop last week, he didnt respond, i then asked for the company registration number again and the guy said are you going to write it down and I replied yes, he immediately hung up....dodgy or what!?! The 2nd call was an asian man calling himself Richard, this time I had pen and paper ready and noted down the company name and registration number. He told me to switch on my PC and go to the following website: www.ammyy.com, obviously I didn't however I then told him the same thing about having sold my laptop and he immediately hung up. These people cannot get away with this scam, I will be reporting them to Trading Standards and urge others to do the same!
