They tend to go through phases of calling me. I have added the number to my "barred" list, so it automatically rejects the call. But it's still really irritating. I may call o2 to see what they can do.

I too am on O2 and live in London

i've just started receiving these nuisance calls - It's an automated call from an Indian call centre, they dial thousands of numbers via computer, but only have a few staff to try and answer them.  Copied the folowing from the 02 forum. - Basically don't bother answering it and if you have missed calls from them and it shows you have voicemail, DON'T bother dialing up your voicemail as it's just a long silence, that you pay for.  Read on -

    Hi,
I received a phone call from o2 and although they have updated my account by now giving me unlimited text messages they also said i will receive a samsung lilac E250, which i havent received yet, and the call was 2 weeks ago.
Did anyone else receive a call like mine ? and did you receive your new mobile ?

02202 is O2 Sales and they call customers to advise if they have an upgrade available but you wouldn't get a phone for free and would have to have paid for one (minus any upgrade discount that you have accumulated). If you have paid for the phone and haven't received it, then you need to contact the Upgrades Team on 2550 (free call).

Any of you notice you're probably all pay as you go customers?  It's a team in Manchester trying to get you better deals on your calls & texts.  NOT a scam.  And from what I've read so far, if anyone of you people bothered to answer the calls and actually speak to them and stop being so damn paranoid you'd find this out in like 30 seconds.

    Hello everyone
This Number: 02202 IS the 02 network
It is the sales department and if answered, they will try and get you a better deal, it worked for me as i am paying £5 less a month  with a free phone too.
The customer service lady said they should ring back during the week, they often ring me at school though!

Just thought i'd tell you all, they will NOT take bank details off you, just a few simple details to make sure you qualify, e.g D.O.B and full name.

    Thanks:)

i just got my second phonecall from this number and after not speaking yesterday, a man said "I'm from o2 i'm calling to help you lower your call rates" i said "No thank-you" and then he said "You're not interested" and i said "no" and then he said aggressively, "so you'd rather pay 40p than 25p?" and i said "yup" then hung up...i think they're trying to scam me...

Well whoever you are "anon" stop being so paranoid and actually listen?  you'd seriously rather pay 40p a min rather than 25p?  If so maybe you should be on a contract if you've got so much money to waste?

On 19/05/09 I received a telephone call from 02202 alleging to be o2.

They stated that the telephone call was being recorded for training purposes. Upon checking their system for my details they alleged that my pre pay sim-card was not registered, despite the fact I know it is! When asked if I would like to register my details, I replied, no and they terminated the call.

O2 have subsequently confirmed that there is no record of them calling and that 02202 is not one of their numbers. They have advised me to proceed with caution and not give out any personal or bank details should 02202 call again.

I therefore conclude that it is either a scam or a 3rd party agency working on a commission basis for o2.

As a general rule of thumb, do not give out personal or financial details unless you are absolutely sure of the identity of the caller. In this instance, call o2 directly (get the up to date contact details from their website) if you want to negotiate your current deal.
