Just got a call from 02202 - they seemed to know my details and offered to post me a new SIM card costing me the same monthly but with extra features. Sounded legit so I went along for a few minutes until they asked for my bank details, at which point I said I won't give these out over the phone and asked if there was any way to complete this on an official o2 site. They then said it's not available online yet as they're only doing it on the phone to avoid competition. I said I felt uncomfortable and then he got REALLY persuasive, and even put me through to his manager to try and ease my mind, who ended up doing the exact opposite with her ridiculous reasonings. I've spoken to official phone companies before and never have they been this persuasive over something like this, especially when I'm paying the exact same amount on the new deal as the old deal - what would be the point, they're still getting the same money through the old deal. They also sent me "proof" through an 'o2-Alert' text but it came with no number. This is SO a scam, avoid at all costs.

Just got phoned by this number for the first time. What's weird is I pressed 'busy' then I was immediately phoned by a 01612178600 number which must have been the same people but forgot to put their number block on? I really hope they don't phone again I have had the same number for about 7 years and would hate to change it coz of these a$$holes.

I've had a missed call from this number two days running. i might email O2 and tell them its happening to see if they can do anything. By the sounds of the messages on this site it sounds like a scam.

It's interesting 'Cal' above said he was immediately phoned back by '01612178600' after redirecting an '02202' call. I did a google search and people complaining about the '0161' number are also o2 customers reporting similar breathing-and-hanging-up problems that have been reported here for '02202' so it must be their proper number. More googling leads me to LBM Direct Marketing, who list the same '0161' number as a contact for their Stockport branch. It's the third one listed here - http://www.lbm.co.uk/map/ - the site also claims they're linked with o2 but I'm sure that's bollocks. Someone should get hold of LBM and find out what their problem is.

Very concerned, glad I searched about this. Got this call today but luckily I missed it. I would not have answered it anyway, and they will get an earful when I catch them calling me again. Hopefully they won't show up again.

From what ive read on here and on other forums it seems that this annoying phone call is from the mobile provider 02, reason that they have your number is because 02 has a database of numbers connected to them and they just phone them. As far as i can make out the best idea is just to ignore it or go to the police and say you would like the number blocked and reported.

Just one more point but if you had your phone on in your pocket and it went off, it was partially your fault becuase you should have your phone switched off and at the bottom of your bag untill break then you can use it untill your hearts content. Although i sound like an annoying parent i am a student and i have never had my phone taken and away and get more respect from the teachers for doing so :P
