Just had a call from this number asking if I was Mrs..... (name of my ex partner). Strong asian accent. I didn't confirm I was the person but asked what company it was. Stated he was James from Microsoft and that he wanted to talk to me about Windows 7 and how it was much better than Windows Vista. I told him I had double glazed windows and was it anything to do with them? He went 'uh huh' and then hung up.

Took a call from a persistent man from 'UK Utilities' who wanted to discuss refund for overpaid utility charges. He was quite aggressive when I said I was not interested. Asked for me by name then asked for my husband by name at which point I hung up saying he had obviously got his info incorrect. One of the most obstinate cold callers I have had. I will report this number.

Got a call today from a barely understandable Asian sounding guy calling from "UK Finance Department" ??? Telling me that they want to reimburse me for some unspecified overpayment that I've apparently made (to/for something unspecified). So I gave him immediate travel recommendations and hung up, but it's scary that these scum must still be duping enough people to make it worthwhile persisting with this now fairly widely known scam.

Just had a call from 0225 680 0256.  Caller had very strong Indian accent and said his name was "David" and calling from the UK Department of Finance.  ( I have checked and there seems to be no organisation with this name).  He said they wanted to pay back some bank charges into my bank account and would I like cheque or to have it paid direct.  When he asked for my date of birth, I declined, saying I had no evidence he was who he said he was.  He got very angry and started shouting at me that he hadnt asked for my bank details.  Not so far ......!  When I asked if I could ring them back to check, he got even more angry and said he was disqualifying me!!!! I just laughed at him and said I was ringing the police.  He then slammed the phone down.  Is this the behaviour of an employee of a bona fide finance company?
By the way, when you try to ring the number back it apparently does not exist.

Jusr received call from this number. Gemtleman with very strong Indian accent saying I was due money from my bank due to illegal charges. I refused to give him any of my details and he became agitated but I was very concerned that he knew my full name, address and which bank I was with. He kept insisting that he needed me to gave him info for verification purposes but I refused as I suspected it was a scam. Worried that he seemed to have so many of my details.

My mother was contacted by a heavily accented Indian man named "Kevin" (REALLY???). He proceeded to spout a load of information about our address and who we bank with and then claimed to be working for a company named "UK Claims" (Checked it, they don't exist), who deal with reimbursing incorrectly paid bank charges. He asked if we would like the refund by check or paid directly into the bank account. We stated that we would like it by cheque, so he said he needed my mothers DOB and a credit card number to verify she is who she says she is. When she refused he became irate with her said he needs it otherwise she would be disqualified. So she asked for a number that she could contact them back on which he replied with "F**K off" and put the phone down.

There seems to be an increase in these types off call recently which is worrying.I would personally like to Know where they get the information from and how you are meant tostop these sort of calls in the future.

Regarding the fact that the first digits of your card were known -  these are always the same, depending on the card type.  They represent the type of card, country of issue and bank.  For example, all Visa debit cards in the UK start with 4751.  I don't know how they found out which bank you were with - that is very worrying, but the first 6 numbers in no way give access to your bank account or prove knowledge of anything but who you bank with.

Had a call from this number this afternoon - a Saturday afternoon, so it was clearly a fraud.  A man with a very strong Indian accent asked if I was Mrs Okum (not even close), I said no and he responded with a very abrupt "Who are you?".  I told him if he didn't know, he shouldn't be calling me, and that even for a scammer, he was very rude.  Then I hung up.  I would like to address one thing, though - everyone seems worried that these people can quote the first 4 or 6 numbers on your bank card.  This shows that they know who you bank with, which is baffling, but nothing more than that.  These are the card ID numbers and represent the type of card, type of account and who the account is with.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Issuer_Identification_Numbers .  Without the missing numbers, they can do absolutely nothing, and they don't know as much as they'd like you to think.

Had a call today, indian accent claiming to have an english name. When i asked who/why he was calling, he kept going quiet, kept asking me to tell him some personal info (which i refused) and then when i asked him to terminate the call, he became very abusive, swearing and calling me names like a""hole etc.
I hung up, but as he kept his end connected, the line remained open. Each time i asked him to clear the line, he continued with the abusive name-calling, and said he was going to F**k my Mother and F**k my wife.
Eventually, after about 10-15mins, he finally cleared the line.

Had a phone call today 15.08.2012 from a chap with a strong Indian accent saying he was from the UK finance department....? whatever that is...I mentioned to him that i thought this department  dosen't exist. The chap got defensive, asked me to mind my language...I think i may have mentioned i thought his call was a scam....before he held up he called me an a**hole, probably correct to a point that i am an a**hole but i don't want, what i see as dodgy phone call scams to call me that, i have enough people i know calling me that...anyway....

This tosser has rung me before - still trying the same old tricks to convince people he can pay you back your bank charges. This damn country needs to sort out these idiots once and for all - it's obvious the lawmakers never read the comments on this website from the public who are harassed by these companies!
