We received the same call too. Indian telemarketer. I played a trick by asking them to wait, placing the phone near the computer speakers and playing some strange rumba music. He hung off after 3 minutes.

Had a call today from this number n I recorded the whole convo. Was actually funny the caller 'dave' (probs short for davinder Patel) then asked if I wanted his [***] LOL. I said no but your wife likes mine n so on. He didn't like that but I weren't letting him off the hook I traded more insults at him to which he put the phone down. I can't wait for them to ring me back. But do you think I should report the number??

02256800256 - Just took a call from an Indian chap saying they were going to send us £1000 as part of a UK High Court something or rather, the company called themselves UK Finance, my wife started to give out our address before I overheard what was going on and grabbed the phone and told them to do one ..

My wife received a call from the same people claiming to be acting on behalf of the government. They told her we were due money back for overpayments on the mortgage and other direct debits.
She told them to call back when I got home from work. They eventually called back about 5:30pm today. Could hardly understand his English. He wouldn't give answers to any of my questions so I ended the call. I going to speak with my bank myself. If I'm owed money I want it all and not share it with some finance rip off merchants.

This number is calling right now, and although we are not answering, they are incessently redialling for the last 10 minutes (and still continuing even as I type!). Sad of them not to have anything better to do, but it is tying up our line preventing legitimate calls from getting through.

My experience was similar (identical!) to thise listed on this site.
I entered into a lengthy discussion with the caller and nearly enjoyed it!  They are obviously trained to avoid questions - she wanted my credit card number for verification protocol, so I said that if I read it out and it was correct, she would only know if it was correct by comparing it to the number in front of her. . . therefore why didn't she read the number to me and I would verify it as being correct.  Somehow she didn't want to play ball on this one.
I also said I didn't pay bank charges, which threw her a bit so she moved on to mortgage repayments via credit cards and all the charges I had paid.  I explained I paid my payments via my bank and not credit card.
She then moved on to PPI and how I had been mis-sold it.  I explained I had never purchased PPI.

Eventually she gave up on me as a lost cause and hung up.

What a pity we use our human talent to defraud - wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone helped one another?

Got the same call last night. Strong Indian accent wanted to send me £750 because I had payed too much in charges/interest for loans, mortgage etc, he just need my date of birth.  I spent 10mins telling him that I didn't believe I had overpaid for anything and no I wouldn't give any details. I asked him to send details through the post as he knew my address, I also asked for a phone number, address and asked to speak to someone who had authority to give me some details about them, all of which he wouldn't give me. I finally asked him if he would give his personal details to me if I called him promising him £750. At this point he got "familiar" and said he loved my voice and could he give me a kiss down the phone - defo SCAM!!  Has anyone reported this number to the police??

The above number phoned me claiming that they were a consumer agency and weren't selling anything, when I politely told thm I wasn't interested they told me to f--- off, they then proceeded to make sexually explicit references before I handed the phone to my husband. The caller then told my husband I was a who-- that he had fuc--- the night before in the pub and that I was disgusting!!!!!

My advice is don't pick up the phone to these people.

Slight difference from the others. This Indian gentleman told me that a recent government survey showed that I had been overcharged on some utilities. When I asked who my energy supplier was he couldn't answer but got irrate when I called it a "scam"

A woman rang up and said that she wants to pay back some bank chargers which I am entitled to.
    because of a court ruling.
She asked me how I want t get it back.
I am afraid I do not remember what organisation she pretended to be from but it was something to do with finance.
I rang off and was rude to the women.
Unfortunatly the only way to prevent these calls is for the Police to knock on their doors.

Like everyone else, I too had a call from this number - in fact the ba****ds have now phoned 4 times in quick succession & also used a slightly different number.
I let my answer phone take any message as I didn't recognise the number, but of  course as soon as my own answer message finished, there was just silence & the call ended.
Thank goodness for this website & the unfortunate experiences of other people - it just makes me incensed to think that these scammers could easily convince older & more trusting people who may not have access to a computer.
Fortunately, I can now put these numbers into my call barred list so they will not be bothering me again !!!
Keep up the good work folks.

Just got call from this number. Strong Indian type accent. Lots of noise in background.. like telesales centre.. He wanted to refund charges from electricity and water. I asked him to confirm who supplied my electricity and water. He got impatient. I tried to hang up. It was difficult to disconnect from the call. Eventually I was able to hang up.

ANOTHER call from this number today asking for 'Mr Neve'...Despite us telling them that 'Mr Neve' doesn't live here, they don't seem to get the message, and insist on calling again and again!

I did get one tiny piece of information this time though...The Indian lady said that she was calling on behalf of "the UK finance department"...Highly unlikely methinks....The Inland revenue use stronger tactics than a mere phone call to get money....
    • Caller: the UK finance department
