We have just started to recieve some of these bulls**t calls too.
Same number, saying they wanted to pay back bank charges etc.
A question: have any of you entered any internet competitions?
About a month ago, I entered a bunch of competitions and entered our home humber...
I am just wondering if it might have been anything to do with that?

I just had the same call from a guy with a very strong indian accent claiming to be Kevin after speaking to an indian woman claiming to be Mary. They kept on asking me who I bank with, so I asked them to verify that they were who they say they are and they could name my Bank for me and then we could take it from there. They kept on trying to tell me it was for verification purposes but I would not budge on the issue. They hung up on me.

This number came up just now on my BT phone, let the answer machine take it and it cut off before the machine could fully anser.

Incidentally, if you go to www/ukpnhoneinfo.com/locator.php. and enter the area code, there are some rather strange results which I must admit I don't understand.

got acall from this number, caller had a very strong indian accent.  he said they wanted to remburse me for bank charges & how would I like it paying. Couldn't hear much of the conversation due to racket going on in the background. Ended conversation at this point as it was obvious that it was a racket, they knew that I had a Barclay card, my address & post code.

Just had a call from 02256800256. Very strong Indian accent, he got quite irate when I asked why he wanted to know what bank I use and I refused. He kept saying it was for 'verification purposes' and as a  'security question'. And he didn't believe me when I said I don't have a mortgage, never had a loan, live in rented accommodation, always pay off my credit card in full and have never bought payment protection insurance.
It's obviously a scam. Next time I'll put him on hold and see how long he can hold out. Or put on a very strong Welsh accent that he won;t be able to understand either.

Received call similar to others from a sub-continretal gentleman offering me several hundred pounds in overpaid bank charges. I was not convinced since he didn't even seem to know my correct name and I told him I suspected he was a fraud. He got very upset with me.

Since then I have receved a further 3 calls where there appears to be nobody at the other end of the call which eventually drops

What can ne done to stop these calls

Just received a call from "Shaun" who had a strong Indian accent. Said he was calling from UK Claims Department from 1st Call Claims. I managed to get an address which he gave as 38-40 Leslie Street, Eastbourne. East Sussex BN22 8JB. A quick Google search shows this same address to also be used by Call Assure Ltd, C Virtual Ltd, Advanced Mobile Technology, Conference Management Services, Euro Repairs, and seemingly many, many others.. Basically it's an accommodation address.

Here's their company details as pulled from their website, "a trading style" is a new one on me!:

1st Call Claims is a trading style of 1st Call Financial Services Ltd registered in the UK company registration 4826421.

Licensed by the Office of Fair Trading. Consumer Credit License Number 544747.

Registered with the Information Commissioner (Reg No: Z9917433) for the use and storage of Data Protection Act (2000).

1st Financial Services Ltd is regulated by the Ministry of Justice in respect of regulated claims management activities, Our registration is recorded on the website www.claimsregulation.gov.uk. Registration Number CRM19613

Oh, and if you're still tempted to give them access to your bank details you might want to consider their own financial status before you do so: http://www.companycheck.co.uk/company/04826421

Call from 02256800256 on 27/07/11.  Gentleman with strong Indian Accent wanted my bank details for purpose of refund of charges.  Fortunately his English was so poor I failed to lose my temper.  The sad thing is, the old and vulnerable may fall for this.  My call was to my ex-directory, tps registered land line. Time for proper tps/government action methinks.
