I got a call from this number today 02256800256. The person said there is some money to be returned to me and wanted me to confirm my address. I asked him which bank he was calling from, to which he said he was not calling from a bank.

I asked how did you get my details because I did not have any conversation with my bank with regards to money owed to me, at this point they hang up!

Got a call from a man who sounded African saying I had been overcharged at bank and they were going to refund money to my account and did I want a cheque or payment into the bank.
I asked for verification of who was calling ,he said he would give me his name and company after I had answered some security questions.
He then asked to confirm my house number and post code which he already knew ,then he asked my date of birth, so i said I did not want to have this conversation,as I put the phone done it sounded like a woman shouted something.
Later that night we tried to phone 02256800256 to see the name of the company but it just came up "This number not recognized.

Got a call today  - caller asked for Mrs <my first name> but didn't say my surname. Had an Eastern European accent I think. When he said he was from the UK Dept. of Finance, I told him no such dept exists and hung up.

Any answering machine, preferably with caller display, will save a lot of hassle answering calls from these scammers, cold callers and anyone else you do not want to speak to. Saved me many a headache. Also register with TPS, Telephone Preference Service. It doesn't totally stop nuisance calls but cuts them down.

What a dull life you people lead. My phone call came at 4.31 today from number 02256800256. An ethnic Indian Voice gave me all the spiel of Hello Mr.....and how are you today? However his being the second or third such call here this week, one asked why one had been phoned, as we really didn't want any of what it was he was selling. The caller liked that not and told me in no uncertain terms that my wife was an effing B, and that it was his intention to f her, having told him that it would need a better man than him to do that, I put the phone down on him and reported the matter to the Police.

Whilst on the matter of being asked for security numbers on the back of credit cards as was mentioned by someone earlier. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SECURE ABOUT SUCH NUMBERS ANY ONE WHO HAS EVER HANDLED YOUR DEBIT CARD CAN RECORD THE THREE DIGITS WHILST RECORDING THE NUMBER ON THE FRONT OF THE CARD.

Got a call today, Christmas Eve, from a man in what sounded like a noisy call centre.
He said he was from "the UK Claims and Finance Department. I asked him what company
he represented, he repeated the UK Claims and Finance Department. I said that all companies
had departments,so who do you work for? He said that this was a company.

He asked my name, or rather told me my name and address and wanted my date of birth.
When I told him that even my bank does not call me without some form of security code,
he said he wanted to send me a cheque and it was to do with the High Court.

He then asked me my phone number. I replied that as he had phoned me he already had it.
When I refused to give him it, he said that he had to ask me , as it was on his card of questions
to ask clients. I replied that I could not be a client of any company that I had not had previous
dealings with and so the call was terminated.
This is an obvious scam, simply seeking information from people under the guise of being
an aid to help unsuspecting folk.

Same here, I asked which bank he was talking about, he hung up. The person calling seemed to have an accent similar to people who are from India.

I have also had the same call from the same number 02256800256 asking me to confirm details, male Indian accent, he already confirmed my name, house number, post code and my phone number, he even new who I banked with. He then continued to tell me how the card is split into 4 number sequences each identifying certain characteristics / details of me, IE postcode, address & bank.

He then proceeded to ask me for the long card number, followed by expiry date, finally cvt number on the back of the card. At this point I knew this was not correct as he stated that he could send a cheque out to me, STRANGE!!!!

He then passed me to his supervisor who threatened me that as I have not complied my card would be cancelled & my account debited £100 for non compliance.

If you are in any doubt DO NOT SUPPLY ANY CARD DETAILS AT ALL, To be safe also report to your bank & cancel your card .

My wife had same call as many of the other, claiming to be uk government finance department and that we have been over charged by bank for years. Had name, address, dob and which bank was with. Wanted card number, refused passed to supervisor. Refused to give card number and when husband spoke to them they hung up. Have checked account on line to ensure nothing untoward. Bank, police, trading standards and ministry of justice next.

Give no information to cold callers over the phone, just hang up.

    Hey Folks,

Try this if you get the chance.

When someone like this calls, ask them to hold on a minute and just put the phone down and continue with what ever you were doing. Now your waisting their time and it's very unlikely that they'll call again.

    Time is money!!

Calls to us come up as "International" but same story. I take delight in keeping the conversation going for as long as possible without giving anyinformation away other than what the caller (Leon in this case) already told me about myself. The art is to keep very calm and give little bits of encouragement to keep them talking. Pretending that you can't hear them clearly is quite good, then asking them to confirm where they are from and then repeating the cycle is good. I got to about 10 minutes today (fortunately it was at a point where I had spare time) before he said "you are wasting my time". Which was the spark for a discussion about who was wasting whose time. If they spent 10 minutes on every call getting nowhere it wouldn't be very cost effective business.
