Just got that call, said they were from Microsoft and had lots of error messages from my PC. Told them I use a Mac, cleared down on me. Must be a way of stopping this crap!!

12:22 14th June 2011 Indian Lady called me, asking for me by name stating that my PC was sending out spam and they were a Microsoft partner and was going to fix my PC.  I am on telephone preference service, and know that Microsoft would not call me directly without my permission - so thought this was probably a scam. They would not give me their company address and gave me the following number which does not exist: 04208401680.

The scam involves getting people to run event logger using eventvwr, this appear to show lots of errors - which is normal.  They then scare you by stating that your PC was about to fail and would only get worst.  They then start asking questions about your PC (PC type, age, operating system etc.). <I stopped here - so they got very abusive>

This is a scam; the internet says they get people to install remote control software (a hackers dream) and charge between £20-£120 for support that is not needed.

received a call from the above number, who is it. not the first time.

Got a call from an Asian woman from this number saying that she was from Microsoft saying they had error reports from my computer. After about five minutes of me trying to find out how they got my number and error reports,and me not turning on the computer. I asked her for my program ID number , she told me that I would have to turn on my computer for that.I told her that I had all the numbers written down in a book.She yelled at me to turn on my computer.I told her that I didn't have one.She said well somebody in the house must other wise we would not be getting these error reports.I told her we have no computers in the house.She hung up. When I tried to ring back the Number is not recognised.It is not the first time about 6 a day in the last week.We are also on the do not call register. I am in Queensland Australia.

Similar calls to most of above. My computer had Stuxnet virus, thousands of error messages and these helpful people from Windows were the to offer help and protection. Ended with request for £88 (discount price). Said most I could afford was £10, haggled a bit and refused to continue discussion. Hung up but next time I turned on my computer warning message stated, "you are about log off" followed by "you is been infected by ........" 10 minutes later computer shut down and kept doing every time I turned it on. Couldn't run antivirus scans or anything like that because they always timed out.
Paid local tech firm £30 to solve my problem.
Had a call a few days ago. Call went straight to dialling tone when I picked up. Put phone down straight away.
When I did 1471 (last number) and got 02538020308 as person who had called.
Dialled that number and automated response said that 02538020308 number did not exist.

Clearly my friendly, helpful, Asian-sounding, Windows-linked problem solvers wanted to chat some more and be assured that all my troubles had gone away.

I was scammed! I was stupid!! But I won't get caught again!!!

After the first call I messed up my online banking, just in case, and that froze the account for 3 or 4 days until I got new access code by post. I also rang bank helpline and told them about he phone call/computer. Although I had not given any account details I was concerned in case my details had been stolen/ accessed in some way!

Nobody is going to ring you on the phone and offer to help!!!

These pains in the neck call me regularly. Today it was a call "from Microsoft" so maybe the company should be told?

Same call, same idea. I live in Aberdeenshire. They've been calling people up here for months.

jusr received al call looks like they are moving to europe now. did turn on my pc told i had a work laptop only still i was told tot turn because of virus check. told only ict of m company was allowed to do it then he said he called because my company had asked him. when i asked him what my company was called he couldnt tell.

took a call from this bunch today around 9.50 this morning.  They firstly asked for my husband. I then asked who was calling and the asian speaking man said he was calling from the Technical Department for Windows.  I then asked him if he worked for Microsoft and he said no, it was the Technical Department for Windows and he had a report showing we had lots of errors on our PC.  I asked him again if he worked for Microsoft and repeated what he told me earlier.  He then asked me if I was in front of my PC.  I just said no and hung up.  I have had similar calls over the past couple of years, I am aware it is a scam as I worked within the PC industry for a number of years.  We too are registered with the TPS and are ex directory.  Seems they are targeting the Milton Keynes are now?

Just had one of these. They don't take kindly to being verbally abused and shouted at down the phone.

Had a call from this number, just clicked off when I answered but after reading the comments I wonder if this is the number that has called me on NUMEROUS occasions wanting to talk to me about my slow running computer.  Depending on my mood I have either told them I don't have a computer - they hang up, that I jnow it's a scam and I'm fed up with calling me - they either hang up or argue with me about it being a scam, or tell them that I am using my computer through my companies server and would they like my I.T. Departments number so that they can discuss with them - funnily enough they have never taken me up on this!  These calls have now been going on for around six months and I am absolutely sick of them, there was a lull when they were replaced with calls asking to discuss my Sky dish problem - if you tell them that you don't have a Sky dish (I don't...) they then ask if you have ever had an endowment mortgage.  Absolutely bizarre!

Just had a call from this number - Asain sounding man claiming to be from Microsoft.
looks like they are back targetting the Central Scotland area.

Had a call - most worrying was that there was no one there but it started ringing out. I assume I would have got a bill for calling them, but I hung up straight away.

recieved a call from 02538020308 on answering line went dead, called straight back recorded message said this number did not exist??

Received a call from this number (asian sounding male then asian sounding female )claiming they where from microsoft asking me to follow their
instructions regarding problems with my P.C.(dont have any) i pretended to do this for a while,then asked them to hold on as somone was at my front door,i left them waiting untill the finally hung up.

02538020308 called me today but didn't leave a message

Got a call from this number. Asian person, claimed to ber from Windows Maintenance Dept. Obviously a scam. Gave him the Bum's Rush.

Have received 3 calls to date along these lines. I am registered with TPS to stop unsolicited calls, so not sure why these are getting thru? I did not give any information and put phone down as soon as they said it was about my computer. All callers spoke with Asian accent, one said she was calling from UK.

Second call from this number in as many days. As with others they stated my computer may have a virus.... this time I let them talk on and put the phone on a table. Came back 5 minutes later by which time the line was dead. Last time I gave them some sex and travel advice!
