14:14 PM on 14th April 2011. Got a silent call from 02538020308. The silent call
was terminated by an automated "goodbye". Is that a scam to get around the
ban on silent calls because a final "goodbye" means that the call ain't silent!

Received a call just, said was a computer firm in Baker St and my ip address was flashing red and there was a problem with my computer, mentioned my local exchange, (not difficult to find out as had my telephone no). Needed me to turn computer on and mentioned 'your ISP' I  asked him to tell me who my ISP was, he couldn't as he didn't have that information!!!!. I am with talktalk and am a bit of a computer geek so I continued to try and get information from him about my details and pushing him on technical details, he had nothing other than my name and phone number, and then told me to "go to hell with my computer

I delt with these people before Its a company that says they are targetinging a software virus in the area.  I actually followed their advice just out of interest. But before they could clear the virus they wanted me to pay something like 20 pound a month for on going protection. This came at the end of the conversation. Aparently you cannot  call bar this number because they are not selling anything at the outset

They just asked me to confirm that I had a computer that I had a computer with a Windows operating system. When I said "No", they hung up. They were obviously lining me up for the virus scam.

I didn't get to my phone on time before it went to the answering machine - no message left. This was about 5.15 p.m.  Had a telephone call later from a friend who said she had a scam call about her computer.  I checked the number on the internet and, lo and behold, this site came up.   I live in the North East of Scotland.

Got a call this afternoon 30 05 11 with my title and surname right. Told me he had reports about a virus on my computer, and wanted to help me.  Oh yeah!!  Knew it was a scam, so interviewed the caller!  What company was he calling from ?-  Alert Software.  What was his phone number? 02808 440184- to sound like a London Number?  Played along a little bit, and after several more questions, he said hold on Ma'am (not for the first time), and then he hung up!

1471 indicates 02538 020308. Should there be a next time, I will tell the caller immediately that I am on the Telephone Preference list, and that it is actually illegal for me to be cold-called.  Will that scare them off???Hmmmmmmm.
    • Caller: alert software- don't believe it

This company says it is Support PC Online working on behalf of Microsoft.  We have chosen to not be called by the telephone preference service so not very happy. We have not requested any support for our PC.

When I asked to call them back they gave me this number 04208401680 which I do not believe exists. The operator said her name was Shelley - very bad line and likely to be overseas.

Had a call from this number today - similar to the above. My computer is registering critical errors in using Microsoft products...blah, blah and this can affect all users of the Microsoft Windows Operating System....blah, blah. Eventually had to interrupt the guy and mention that I don't use Windows.... he hung up on me....!!! Amusing but also annoying - this is clearly a scam of sorts. Our number is also registered with the call prevention registry so these guys shouldn't even make the call in the first place - hope someone tracks them down and stops them.

Yep, got a call today (I live in the Reading area) from a woman with an asian accent purporting to be calling from a Microsoft 'authorised technician' and that they needed to check my computer as they've detected a problem with it. I told her my computer was fine and wondered how she got my number (I signed up to TPS) - no answer. I then asked her if she even knew who I was and followed it with a "what's my name?". The line went dead. Pity - was enjoying our little Guess Who session.
