Just got a call from this number at 15.29 on 19/1/11. Picked up phone and the line was dead turned my internet off straight away just incase they got hold of anything. I also got a call from a similar company before xmas on 01234567890. Apparently they are the same kind of company. I wonder how they got my number as mine is exdirectory. We live in Barrow-in-Furness so it seems to be spreading around the country!

Hi had two calls one from Number above the other 'private' the first started down the road of virus , looking at regedit and the converstaion was heading towards IP address the second call from Aisian male claimed an 0141 number but left 02538020308  on caller number

I would recommend that anyone who receives this call type should ignore any suggestion of  opening regedit, Ensure their 'legal' anti virus, Anti Hacker, anti spam software programs are all up to date, MS Defender (Free) , IOLO system Mechanic (provides Anti Hacking , Fire Wall and Virus), and the password protection sofware provided by Santandar Bank and others should lock out any attacks.

Then call the police cyber crime unit and place the number on Record. For the call I received was not to sell me software but to actually get me to remove my Protect from my machine!

Yes I am an IT tech and I did let the first one try and go that far!

I received a call this afternoon (25th January 2011) at 4.21pm on an unrecognised phone number 02538020308.    It was a guy with an Asian accent saying they were from PC Doctor and he would remove any corrupt files from my computer.   He was trying to access my computer and asking for information.   I immediately realised this could be a scam.   I am also going to report this phone number to the Telephone Preference Service with whom I have been registered with since 2003 so that they can check this out.   I regard this call as being illegal and very very suspect.   Anyone out there please be aware of this.  Once they get your details your computer system could end up being very vulnerable.   He was an arrogant chap who didn't like me saying NO to him politely and then he hung up immediately.

Forgot to mention.   I live on the North Wales / Chester border, so hopefully I'm alerting our nearby local neighbours to these phone calls.   I have had a reply from the Telephone Preference Service who say they are going to investigate into these calls, and if it is a company operating in the UK they will take action.   It is illegal to make calls without checking with the TPS list before making any unsolicited calls to those who have registered not receive them.  Hope this all makes sense, but please be aware and don't give any information about yourself or your computer information.  Just say NO.  Good luck folks !

Had a very interesting call from this number, oneof a series that i have had over the last 3 months or so, coming from this number, also no number and 00 000 00000 0.
usual asian caller advising in various ways that either my ISP, or Microsoft have asked them to resond to error reports sent by my computer. most of them I have just hung up on but today decided to play then along, played dumb and not understand what they wanted me to do.
wanted me to go to a web site to download some software to "fix my pc", I advised her that my AV software was blocking the site, she advised that obviously my AV software had been compromised by the virus.
eventualy asked them how they had identified "My computer" and tied to my phone number, she advised that the report they had "identified my computer from the IP address which was registered when i bought the computer".  I advised her that with dynamic IP adress that was impossible, and my ISP would not give out details, she got huffy and hung up.
this is an obvious case of CALLR ID SPOOFING, and I think that it should be banned

Communications watchdogs have today been pressed by MPs to investigate a new service that allows people to fool caller ID systems into displaying a fake number, amid fears it will be abused by ID fraudsters and other conmen.
It's thought such trickery is currently legal in the UK. The Liberal Democrats have called on regulators to act however, claiming the availablity of such services in the UK could make it even easier to fleece the public and invade privacy.
So-called caller ID spoofing services have been available in the US for several years. Now, a new firm named Spookcall is bringing the controversial practice to the UK with the tagline "be anyone you want to be".
Ofcom has not responded to requests for comment on the launch.
Spookcall works for landlines, mobiles and VoIP calls. Such services have been used in the US by private investigators, direct marketeers, prank callers, voicemail hackers and phone phishers. More benign uses such as allowing call centre workers to work from home are also common.

OFCOM must have realised that this service would be abused, and it seems it has been?

I CAN SEE NO VALID REASON FOR CLI SPOOFING CAN ANYONE ELSE?
