3 calls today - and it's only 1.30 pm - 2 yesterday and 1 on monday! a ping and a good-bye !!
whats the purpose for these calls ?? Just very annoying ... and that's being polite - as I am a Lady in her 70's. What can I do to prevent this happening much longer. Since end of August I have kept records of all these calls - 84 so far and not counting withheld numbers!

Report it to the police but also get a personal attack alarm and every time they ring set the alarm off down the phone

Over the last few weeks I have received calls from several different numbers and each time it has turned out to scammers. They claim to be microsoft and tell you that there is a problem with your computer and try to persuade you to give them access to fix it etc etc etc............ UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION WHATSOEVER.
Don't even confirm your name or that you even have a computer when they initially start talking to you. Once they have these simple facts you will start to receive calls asking for you by name, and as the number they call from is different every time you initially think the first few are from genuine callers until they get into their "scamming script".
My son took the first call and as I wasn't home, he confirmed my name and that we had a computer in the house. They also learned that I wouldn't be home until late in the evening and turned up the pressure on him and my spouse by calling back several times before I returned home, telling them they needed to get access to the computor immediatley "to prevent further damage to the computer".

Needless to say, they didn't get very far, but there will undoubtedly be some people that may be taken in by these scumbags so I recommend you warn everyone you know.

Someone who had my full name and my X-directory number called and started saying something about computers. I told him to go forth & multiply (or something similar)

Just got a call from this number 02538020308 at 7.05 am didnt answer as i didnt recognise the number, have had a few of these and they all ask about my computer, i never tell them any thing, they shouldnt be aloud to do this

I've had several calls from this number over the last few week. There is never anyone there when I pick up the phone. The number is not recognised when I asked where the call comes from

just got a call from the same number, sounded like a 15 year old asian bloke who was slightly annoying. didnt like the fact that i was bored so started asking him alot of questions, which to give him his dues - he tried to answer. asked me to turn on my computer and couldnt understand me when i started to talk quite fast.
he then ended the phone call by telling me to f**k off and hanging up. OOHH how the times have turned, any other day the conversation would have ended exactly the opposite!

ahh yes, forgot to tell you, he was supposedly from microsoft and warning me that i had problems with my internal software on my windows computers

If they ring again ask if they have seen "You've been Scammed" BBC1, 21st November. Ask if they get it in India!!. This scam was highlighted on the programme.  Apparently these people will install spyware/malware on the machin e if they get remote access. The Director of Security for Microsoft stated, on the same programme, thnat neither they nor their partners would ever cold call you.  It would be a breach of their privacy rules.

HAHAHA!Had a call today from an asian man saying his name was "Ade" and it was all to do with 'Windows', I told him I dont own a computer and he rang off, ten minutes later I got another silent call from them!

And Somerset today!

Called today from this number three times within 1 hour each not knowing about the previous calls.  This is a definate scam and should be guarded against they seem to be targetting the Leeds area

11.24 Asian accent called to say the my computer was generating problems/viruses at what sounded like Windham and if I went to my computer he would take me through it to remove my problems.I am not aware of any problems so refused to conduct what he suggested.He politely said goodbye.

Another call this lunchtime, Friday 9th December 2011. I'm sure I've had this one before, and several times. Purports to be representing Windows.

As with others, it is a man who is difficult to understand. I did not let him get going!

Three silent callls today from this number

Just received a call from this number! Asian man claiming to be from Microsoft support? Called me by the correct name.  Asked me if I used my computer for email? downloading? or web browsing?....... he asked if I used a Windows PC! I was more concerned he had my X-directory number. Beware this is a scam!

Had a call from this no today telling me my computer was corrupted and wanted me to log onto a wwwlogmeon site, he and his alleged boss tried to be very convincing, but when i said I would take it ti my local pc worldt heck they got quite pushy that it could only be fixed by them and when i insisted on having their tel no / address so i could look them up they put the phone down.

They use random dialling, so ex Directory doesn't work.  If you look at my earlier post you will see what they are up to.

Got a call from this number, and the guy said my computer was being hacked and someone was going to get all my details. I asked him who he was, and what was my name, address and broadband provider. He couldn't tell me but wanted me to turn on my computer... I told him i wouldn't. I also told him that i would be reporting him to the police and other authorities regarding computer scams.  Havn't heard anything since....

PLEASE DON'T HANG UP!  If you have the time, keep them talking and let them waste their phone bill. Pretend you are listening to them for as long as you can. You could start to ask them questions about the virus and what it will do to your computer if you don't follow their instructions. Eventually they will start to lose patience if you have not logged into your PC like they are asking - so pretend you are doing so, then every instruction they give ask them to repeat and explain why you are doing this. REMEMBER DO NOT ACTUALLY FOLLOW ANY INSTRUCTIONS! Eventually, when you have had enough, ask them if they are a Microsoft Professional. They will say they are so you can ask them for their Microsoft Professional ID Number. They will not be able to answer so keep asking for it - tell them it is on the card that they carry with them - tell them you always carry yours and that you are a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer - they will have probably hung up by now!

Works for me every time - and gives me up to 30 minutes of entertainment!
